New Disney Theme Park reservation system

I had a thought about what it means to have a park reservation. If I have a reservation and go to that park early in the morning, can I leave go back to my hotel pool and come back to the park again for dinner. If not shouldn’t there be a standby line to take my place in the park.

Since I didn’t read all 10 pages of prior posts, if this was covered earlier I apologize.

Interested in any thoughts.

I believe I read that would be the case somewhere. It might have been on the survey. I should have taken a screen shot.

They have not said but it is rumored no park hopping so I am going to guess they will allow this.

You mean like a physical standby line? How would that work with social distancing?

Or would it be more like a virtual queue that alerts a guest that they have X minutes to arrive at the gate to replace the family that just left?

I guess it could work either way. Disney should have information on how often people leave a park in the middle of the day, since the magic band days probably by name, which would help them deciding which way would be best.

I read you could leave and come back to the same park that day.

I don't think they track people leaving, not entering. That is probably why they can't do park hopping, because it would be difficult to manage capacity. Plus you don't know who is coming back and who is leaving for good.

Tracking people as they are leaving is totally doable. They already know when you on a ride so they can send you a picture. Worst case, Just have people tap their magic bands on the way out.

I agree it is doable, it just isn't something they have done. Does everyone have magic bands? I thought some were just electronic tickets.

Another thing they have not done is make you get a reservation to go into a park.

I don’t use a magic band. Several locals do not, as the only reason for it is admission.
I do wish we could link a cc to it without having a room, however.

Just saw something posted on another board that said Cast member training for the new Reservation system starts this week and it will take about 2 weeks. Don't know if true or not...

Well today was 30 days from MK and AKL opening and nothing. Seems like Disney is starting to look like a bunch of jacka$$es compared to universal. I love Disney and hate to bad mouth them but get your act together! You can't leave people hanging!
It's absurd! People have vacation time, pet care, airfare all hanging in the balance waiting for a multi billion dollar company to figure out what to do. Start with you have a fully paid resort reservation or you can't go before worrying about the rest of the world.
Cynic in me has thot it’s almost like a game of chicken

perhaps WDW is deliberately dragging their feet on the details, hoping to cull the herd, if enough people give up and cancel their summer reservations, they can more readily ease into resuming operations

but what do I know of imagineering:rolleyes1

Cutting Disney some slack - their situation is far more complicated than UO's. There are pre-paid dining reservations that need to be refunded, resort reservations that need to be moved, existing tickets that include things like waterparks and park-hopping that need to be sorted out, AP's, both with and without resort stays that need to be considered. Add to this they need to implement an -all-new park reservation system that accommodates all of this. All of this that must be integrated into the My Disney Experience software that was never all that fantastic to begin with. My wife works in IT - I promise you there is an entire staff of people working well over 40 hours a week, probably more like 60, just trying to meet the hard-and-fast deadline of opening day, let alone those of us that are begging for it to be finished well before that so we can have some solid information on our vacations. Not only that, but this IT staff is working from home, just like the rest of us, which is complicated enough.

All that said...
Constantly refreshing my e-mail and watching this thread, just like the rest of you.

Everything you mentioned is basically the same as at Universal, except my Disney experience...which to be fair, doesnt have to be used.

I really can't imagine Disney taking another 2 weeks to introduce the theme park reservation system. Seems like the next week or so would sound about right but I've been wrong before

If they're training CM's it means that they already have the details figured out. So it's possible that the system goes live in two weeks with an announcement preceding that. I agree that cannot wait much longer to give people details .. but in the back of my mind I'm thinking they may just spring it on us last minute and continue being very liberal with full refunds

I still think that more advanced notice of the new “rules” are in order so that people can plan appropriately. Especially when reservations are booked up to eleven months prior....

I don’t mind if the game changes, I just want to know what the new rules will be so I can decide whether or not I want to continue to play...

I think that Disney had no intention of opening until Aug/Sept at least. I think that DVC really forced their hand and to a lesser extent the FL government may have pushed them a bit too. For years and years WDW has been enjoying huge profits due to DVC sales. Now they see that there was some price to those profits. Timeshares are not like a hotel that you can do with as you please. We own that property and there are laws in place about keeping owners out of their property. Once the state of emergency was lifted, they had to open DVC per their contract with the owners.

Universal pushed their hand with the opening of the theme parks. Unni made the decision to open their parks and then did so a short amount of time later. Disney did not even prepare to open the parks no plan at all. They are flying by the seat of their pants and it shows. They make rules that contradict each other ie no resort hopping, but feel free to congregate at the parks or DS. They seemingly want everybody to cancel their cash reservations, but instead of just cancelling them they move people to DVC rooms. Don't think of this as some well laid out plan, they have no idea what they are doing. They don't seem to realize that their IT department sucks and has failed time after time.
Just because they opened dvc does not mean they had to open parks. They are opening parks because of Universal. They should have had their plans ready by now they have had since March to work this out no matter what date they picked.

That is true but I think most DVC reservations would get cancelled if the parks weren’t open. It wouldn’t buy them much to open DVC without the parks.

That's exactly what I said in the post that you quoted. Why restate what I just said in a post that you quoted?
