New Disney Theme Park reservation system

Got some more details from our TA friend. Disney will release this info soon.

1 park per day (No park hopping but you can leave and come back)

All of 2020 will open all at once

If your MDE app is loaded with tickets/AP AND a onsite hotel you will get priority theme park access vs those offsite with tickets/AP. Means FL AP people might have issues getting a reservation.

No set date for when the reservation system opens

Opening at 20% capacity

Only part that I hope gets adjusted is all 2020 at once. System will crash.

Some others who seem to be involved with good knowledge have said it will be a rolling 30 day window.

We shall see!

20% capacity? If that’s true, it seems to be over-cautious.
Shanghai opened up at 20% capacity so this would make logical sense. They will add more capacity as they get used to their new operations and processes. Hoping my TA friend is right after her conference call today.

Yes, it does. However, I have heard that most days, parks only reach 50 to 70% of capacity...so, if its 20% of park and not normal, then maybe it is not as bad as we think?

For a DVC a 30 rolling window won’t work as that breaks into the 30 day holding window. You could end up with no park access and your points in holding. I hope that’s not true.

IMO, if this comes to play, DVC will continue to waive holding. They currently are and it would easy for them to say that the holding rules...which can be changed, go to less than 30 days.

I think the suggestion about the 30 day window is initial. Once things get up and running, it would most likely go to 60, like ADRs.

It doesn't make sense to do ADR's at 60 days but reservations at 30, but what do I know. I also hope they don't dump them all at once. Sea World did this and didn't have days selling out but had tons of issues with peoples ticket numbers not working. People were reporting 1000 minute waits to get through on the phone.

I would be interested to see how this works at DL as well. They will only have 2 or the 3 onsite resorts open. Plus how do you handle all of the Good Neighbor hotels?

I think you are giving too much credit to Disney IT. The system will crash with a 1 day window.

I mean the thing barely works now. Some days I have reservations and or tickets and some days I do not. Sometimes I loose all my family and some days they are all or partially back.

What does all of 2020 will open at once mean?

I think I remember when we booked out 2017 trip during Thanksgiving, when we went online June 18th-ish back in 2016, not all the dates were listed through December 31st. This probably means all 365 days will be posted for booking at once.

So for people saying 20% seems low. Shanghai started at 20%, each week they started increasing. Theirs a great YouTube channel by TDR Explore, who lives by Shanghai. He was doing weekly reports but stopped, he said each week it looked like more people were there, and more attractions started opening each week!

It’s a rumor. I wouldn’t put any credence to it. They said ADRs at 60 days and you have to have a park reservation first so that doesn’t make the 30 day rumor reasonable. I still think they will do something special to keep from having a mass cancellation of DVC rooms.
I feel like it should be the other way. Park reservations at 60 days and ADRs at 30. How can you make ADRs if you don't know if you will be at the park or at the resort yet?!

I think the rumor about the 30 days is the initial timeframe,

The 60 day ADR is turned off and won’t start again until after this entire thing gets started.

So, right now, it sounds like you can’t book an ADR until you have a park reservation.

IMO, once the 60 day ADR is available again, they will have a longer timeline for park reservations.

Well today was 30 days from MK and AKL opening and nothing. Seems like Disney is starting to look like a bunch of jacka$$es compared to universal. I love Disney and hate to bad mouth them but get your act together! You can't leave people hanging!

It's absurd! People have vacation time, pet care, airfare all hanging in the balance waiting for a multi billion dollar company to figure out what to do. Start with you have a fully paid resort reservation or you can't go before worrying about the rest of the world.
