I know about a month ago someone posted on here about a new Disney book that had come out (maybe even written by a Diser) about hidden or unknown things at DisneyWorld. I tried searching amazon and on here and can't seem to find it. Does anyone remember that book, or can you direct me toward that thread? I would love to purchase it and can't seem to find it now that I want to. Thanks in advance for your help.

It's called "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World".

For the record, I wasn't impressed. There's a lot of inaccurate and outdated information in it.

Thank you for the quick responses ... Buzz, for someone who has a good deal of Disney knowledge, would you still say it was a fun read at least? Were there any things in it that you didnt know or found interesting anyways? thanks

I bought the book & really loved it - I guess I'm WAAAY out of the loop 'cause I didn't catch much that was outdated - guess someone would have to point the things out for me - guess I'm not a true DIS fan:confused:

I have read many of the tips on the DIS boards & on another site - I like that all the tips are in one location. And I'm am currently rereading the book with my highlighter to make sure I don't miss anything when we get there.

Of course things change with the refurbs WDW is always doing - it would be impossible to get a book out & keep up with everything....

I agree with Buzz! I just started reading this yesterday and that was the thought that kept popping up was how outdated it is!! If you do buy it make sure you get a bargain! HTH:goodvibes

This was the book that recommended taking a flash picture inside Spaceship Earth, a dark ride, yes? I think just for that it gets a no vote from me - don't encourage people to break the rules in your book!

Another new book out....

Mousejunkies!: Tips, Tales, and Tricks for a Disney World Fix: All You Need to Know for a Perfect Vacation

From Amazon:
Far more than one obsessed travel writer’s take on Walt Disney World, Mousejunkies! is a collection of amusing travelogues and savvy insider’s tips gleaned from a group of seemingly rational adults who find themselves inexplicably drawn to the Magic Kingdom. It covers all the essential topics — when to go, where to say, what to do, and where to eat — as well as experiences not found in other guides. Readers learn how to indulge in an all-day beer and football orgy at the resort, how to extract the family from Fantasmic with sanity intact, where to catch a mid-afternoon catnap, and how a Disney cruise can go very, very wrong. Packed with useful information, from touring plans to restroom reviews, these funny, affectionate personal accounts paint a vivid portrait of a creatively engineered world where unexpected surprises create lasting memories.

Oh, I'm not a good person to offer a full review. I simply flipped through a copy for a few minutes, and several items immediately caught my eye that I recognized as being wrong and/or out of date. For example, the book instructs Guests to ask Haunted Mansion CMs for the location and story behind "Madame Leota's Ring". The problem is, the so-called "ring" was removed two years ago -- and was known back then as belonging to the Bride, not Mme. Leota (who, being a disembodied head, would have no need for a ring).

I picked it up at the bookstore and flipped thru it and found several innaccurate things, so I decided I would skip that one too.

I am currently reading Mousejunkies and and it is really good! I find it hard to put down.

I have honestly not ready a Disney Guide book cover to cover, but this one I am. Good reading:thumbsup2

Yeah, there were a few inaccuracies here and there, and a few less-than-current items scattered throughout the book, but I found it worthwhile and entertaining. Especially since I had a coupon for 40% off the purchase price!

I know you only glanced at the book, but I just want to mention that the section referring to the ring does indeed state that as of 2007, there is no ring at the Haunted Mansion.

I really enjoyed MouseJunkies, too. I love that it was written by someone who's just as mad about the Mouse as we all are.

so, what do you see if you are rude enough to flash?

That's the really annoying bit - the book doesn't say, and no one on here had any idea. Someone posted a picture of nothingness to prove the "truth" of the info...no one could provide something worth breaking the rules for. Also, there's no way in heck, IMHO, that the Imagineers would put something in that you could only see with a flash picture, since again that breaks the rule of dark rides.

Then why does it tell Guests to ask the HM CMs about it? :confused3

LOL, thanks! I HATE flash photography on rides. It makes it so no one can enjoy the ride.

the OP didnt want a guide book...thats why I suggested the Imagineers field guides...its more about the parks creations and original concepts....not another how to tour book
