New discounts for SSR

I think it depends if they allow you to stack magical beginnings with this deal. At 200 points with MB, you’d pay about $150.5 per point if my math is correct

You need to buy more to get the bigger discounts (200+). It looks like you can get 200 points for 143 p/p with welcome home and magical beginnings (if both are offered with this promotion).

Yeah here was my post on it from another thread. 200 is the optimal buy here.
I didn’t see this posted here but apologies if it’s repetitive; there’s a new (pretty good) SSR incentive as of this week, if I’m mathing correctly, at 200 points it’s $172.50, with MB it would be 150.50, I’m not sure whether the $1500 incentive would be good on this too but if so that would net down further to $143.

Beyond 200 the pricing actually gets (slightly) worse if you include the welcome home promotion.

Anyone done the math on 150 points, which is the minimum (and seems to be the sweet spot) to get VGF at $161?

I’m so glad we’re not in the market for more points, because my head would be swimming, trying to figure out the best deal (lowest price) on what would be a new home resort!

I don't know if we have confirmation about MB yet, but as @Epcot Forever Forever posted, they did allow it for AK a few months ago so it would make sense this resort is also eligible...

150 points is $185, $163 with MB, $153 with MB and the $1500.

10 fewer years than VGF. WAY better point chart. There’s pros and cons.

Even if SSR ends up being lower, I think I'd rather pick up VGF. Cheaper dues, priority booking window that matters and a longer contract. We're still thinking about selling off a resale to pick up more VGF points, but we'll wait until we get closer to the promo end date before we make a decision.

This definitely is the drop down product for maybe some of the lesser informed DVC consumers. Point chart is irrelevant at SSR because everyone can stay there if they want to and just switch at 7 months. For 8 more dollars per point you get VGF which has a desirable home booking priority, monorail resort and 10 more years. All of that is well worth the 1200 dollar difference.

It's a good one for those who will not use the home priority window plus has consistently maintained lower dues.

But if that’s the case then why not resale? Those direct VGF points can just as easily be used as SAP if resale restrictions matter to you regarding RIV/VDH. In 20 years VGF points will have more value if resold as they’ll still have 20 years left compared to SSR which will have 10. If you plan to rent points VGF is also likely to fetch more pp.

I know I don’t put much consideration in resale value but when the difference is 10 years, resale value and booking priority and you’re already spending 23 grand, you’re going to stop at 24 and draw the line there? Idk, doesn’t seem worth it to me but I’d love if someone has a different POV.

FOMO and the desire to purchase direct. Especially if financing where the initial buy in can make an ultimate cost difference.

A little larger difference would be better and I am always a proponent of resale when the variance makes sense and agree with you that SSR is a better buy resale vs direct.

I mean I think 90% of people should probably purchase resale but clearly 70% of those people clearly don’t agree with me. If they’re going to buy direct, there’s a case to be made that someone who thinks they’ll be dead before VGF expires and doesn’t care much where they stay should save the money. Especially if they want 200 points more than 150 points.

I’d agree most direct buyers would be better off spending the extra on VGF given the current promos.

Thanks for this thread! Ive been thinking about adding via resale, but after looking into the promotion going on now, I think I'm going with the 200 VGF direct. Maybe its FOMO, but I want to have the opportunity to book at Riviera and future resorts.
Its about $2230 more than SSR outright, but over the same 31 year period the dues will be $3178 less ( at today's fee rate). Of course there will be 10 more years of dues, but 10 more years of use.
Anyway, I'm excited, so thank you all!

I've often wondered if DVC would make one of these optimal have 100pts as the sweet spot. I would be much, much more likely to bite at 100 vs 200 ... otherwise I gravitate towards resale....

I get they want to entice people into bigger contracts... but if there are more people like me, they might net more points sold - if for example they sold 100 contracts of 100pts vs 25 contracts at 200... (I doubt 4x, but maybe 2x...)
