New Disappointment at BC

We have had the BC Deluxe room the past 2 years for Christmas and we were lucky enough to score it for this coming christmas and room 3557 and 4557, both facing the quiet pool with said lights on all night. but to add to that we also get people who like to go and sit and enjoy their cocktails there 11 ish 12am. the light never really came in and bothered us it was more the loud talking

I just booked BC pool/water view for December. Now I'm nervous! Sleep is important to us. The funny thing is that I didn't want pool view, but it's all that I could book with free dining. I worry pool view will be noisy. I hadn't thought about the lights. Maybe I'll look into sleep masks, but I don't know that my 7 year old would wear one.

We are in our 60's so things do annoy us more easily. The light did shine directly onto the bed closest to the window but the whole room was "lit-up" more than just a nightlight.

I will say that since I also booked and paid extra for the pool/water view room: I probably could have avoided the problem if I had just booked a woods view/standard view. I had stayed here before (in the villa side) and knew the woods view rooms were really bad (kudzu and overgrowth) so I wanted to have something better than those. The worst at Beach Club IMO would be the woods-view (patio/1st floor) rooms. Some of them would be like literally sitting on the sidewalk with everyone, looking at overgrowth and kudzu. :(

This trip was for my husband's retirement and I wanted to enjoy our view (with a balcony). I just didn't research enough before making my choice. YC is now the only deluxe I haven't experienced so we may have to give them a try next time.

Late August 2017 I think we had double curtains at the windows? See pic. Top striped one was just decorative - see through. Bottom curtain was heavy/room darkening. We go to bed early and didn't see light leaks.
OP: We stayed at BWI before BC 8/2017, and loved it. So calm. By a mile best housekeeping we've ever seen at an onsite hotel.
If you don't care about Stormalong Bay (although BWI's pool is good too IMO), and don't mind the possibility of a long walk to the lobby, then for sure I'd recommend BWI. (Note that it can be a very long walk to Epcot: we were in a room on the far end of BWI - towards Epcot and convention center - but no secret door, like at BC, so we had to walk all the way to BWI lobby and then back to Epcot. But the hallways are icy cold AC.) Walk to HS is closer than when coming from BC.

We love BWI and I had just stayed there in March with my BFF. DH and I really just wanted to try BC and now we know it's not for us. We never do pools at Disney, only the parks/restaurants. The walk to Epcot was nice.

I didn't take any pictures of the blinds in 3525 but there are pix on here and TP that show them.

I agree with the BWI rooms. We stayed CL there and you could sleep til noon in those rooms. Dark, and quiet. We were right above the honeymoon cabins. Got to see Epcot fireworks from our balcony.

One of the key reasons that the BoardWalk Inn has such good mousekeeping is that it has fewer rooms at 378 vs 576 at the Beach Club.

You could add a room request for quiet location and blackout curtains. There are only a relatively small number of pool view rooms with the Roman Shades. They are the top floor rooms in the section that overlooks the quiet pool. But I think that a majority of lagoon view rooms have the blackout curtain.

We had a room with a Roman shade over the door last summer at the beach club. But we had a Gardenview and it was kind of shaded by the trees so there is no light at night and the sun didn’t wake us up in the morning. Of course we got up most mornings for a rope drop anyway but at least the Gardenview room seem like they would be better with the Roman shades

How the heck is a room assignor supposed to know what kind of window coverings a room has? Heck, on our last trip, the room assignor couldn't even figure out which rooms were dormer rooms at GF...

Rooms with the Roman shades are the rooms with dormer balconies. They know which ones they are because they would be on the top floor of each section of the building. There are a few exceptions though.

Its a wonder that Disney has not made a large balcony a booking category at the Beach Club.

I would pay for it if I ever decided to stay there again. Also, I would be good with the POOL and LAGOON being a separate booking.

Sounds like the Yacht would be perfect for ya'll. I think so far it has been my favorite resort.

This has me bummed. We were planning to stay there on our next trip (my daughter really wants to stay there especially!) But my kids get woken by the sun, so we may have to reconsider.

The pants hanger in the room usually has clips, and thats a good thing to use to clip the curtains if you forget to bring something with you.

That is a great idea!! I usually bring clothes pins but sometimes I forget. I had never thought to use the pants hanger!! The sliver of light drives me crazy.

This is a weird oversight. Has anyone complained about this issue while you were there? I wonder if they have something they could put up to correct this when people present the issue.

That said, what a ridiculous oversight. These rooms are not cheap (to put it mildly), and should not mandate a floodlit room when you're trying to sleep.

This is good to know, thanks! We'll buy sleeping masks and try to request a quiet, dark location. But, why would BC ever change back to blackout curtains if no one is actually complaining to BC and just going online to complain? I can't imagine adding a rod with two blackout curtains to every room would break the bank and if people let BC know this is an issue, they'd likely fix it rather than lose bookings to SD and BWI.

Although I "lived with it" while there, I did post a review on TripAdvisor about our stay, which included the "blind problem". A Disney Rep. replied, on TripAdvisor, and didn't really give a response to the "blind problem" but thanked me for my comments and that another Disney resort might be more to my liking.
That was already my thought anyway, I'll stay at BWI or the POLY ANY day over the balcony/blind problem at BC. As a matter of fact, I booked a BB while at BC for the POLY in Dec. and it was LESS $$ than I had paid for the BC room.:yay:
