New Disappointment at BC

When I got home I looked on the touringplans site under Beach Club and there is a photo of the blinds. Wish I had seen it before. They are fabric but they still allow the light to shine on all sides.

Ok, thanks. I know exactly what you're talking about. I found a similar picture of the fabric up&down blinds vs a traditional curtain.

I would hope Disney CM staff would have something to cover the window to make your stay more pleasant. Especially if it's just a night problem.

One other thing that didn't make me too happy:

I did not find a Bounce Back in our room and I called the front desk. They told me, 2 different ones, there wasn't one. I had read on here about it so I called the reservations line and told them I was at BC and they forwarded me to the BB line. I was able to book 2 rooms for December, no problem. Not sure what that was about? Didn't book Beach Club!

Those are called Roman Shades. DVC resorts have them.

I don't remember seeing them in any of the 3 we have stayed-in, BLT, Poly Studio or even BCV. I think they all had black-out curtains. It looks like BC switched from curtains to these when they did their refurb. I will pay closer attention next time. I hope the POLY still has the curtains when we go in December.

OKW has them in the living room and has had them for a long time and on the studio porch door. They may be on the bedroom porch door, too.

I have stayed 4 times at BWI in a standard, GV and boardwalk and they all had balconies and blackout curtains.

I just had a look at the photo - the blinds are a really bad fit! No wonder they let in so much light; they look untidy, too. Those kinds of blinds need to overlap onto the wall slightly.

A hotel room is, primarily, for sleeping, so the most important features relate to that - comfortable bed and bedding; temperature control; peace and quiet from noise outside of the room (as far as possible) and darkness! Disney (should) know all this! I can only imagine what qualifications you have to have to design/approve the designs for their room refurbs, so how do these things get as far as the finished product?

Hope your trip was really enjoyable despite the sleep interference Alabama Minnie.

I think we will be doing BWI or Swan/Dolphin from now on. I hate I paid the extra $$ this time.

This was our conclusion several trips ago... staying at S/D is a much better value for my family. We have stayed BWI twice, BC once and now are returning to S/D for third time. Primarily due to cost, when our kids became teens and it was no longer appropriate for them to be sharing a bed we went to two rooms and the Disney deluxes are just too costly. We have always been able to get some type of S/D deal that gives us two rooms for LESS than one room at BWI or BC!! We had great trips at both those resorts and am glad we got to stay there but just won't pay that much any more.

We have stayed at S/D several times at a cost less than the other Epcot resorts. Although my desire for a balcony did increase the price there. This year I bought an AP and the discounts have been pretty close to the S/D (balcony) prices and I made the ressies before the parking increase. Not sure if I can justify the cost without the AP discount though.

I really like BWI and it will probably be our #1 pick if it is close to the S/D price. The location and riding the boat is what is MOST important to us and you get that at S/D too.

Epcot resorts will probably always be our choice, DH and I didn't even go to MK this trip and you have to ride the bus to AK from all the resorts.

It's just a LOT of money to pay to have to deal with whatever you are assigned.

There was one great thing about the LOCATION/room, you could walk down 2 flights of stairs and out the exit and you were at a gate that went right to Epcot. That part we really DID like!

Admittedly, I'm confused. You mentioned getting a patio, but then also not being on ground level. Isn't that where a patio is? Or are there different definitions of a patio?

My DD has a medical condition and sometimes needs to nap for a few hours in the afternoon. She wouldn’t be able to do that if the blinds aren’t sufficient at blocking the light. I guess we will look into a stay at YC instead. We stayed at BWI last summer and loved it. We’d love to try Stormalong Bay, but I think after reading these posts about the blinds, BC is out for us.

No, when I made the ressie I told the lady that I did NOT want a patio after having one last visit and she noted it. Then, when I did online check-in my 1st request was for large BALCONY (it's a request on the pull-down). I had already paid for the Lagoon/pool view.

I will say we were glad we stayed at BC one time when my kids were younger because they LOVED Stormalong Bay.

The YC sounds like it would work out much better for you and the new rooms are really nice. The beautiful curtains in the YC rooms certainly do the job in blocking out light. We have also been able to get really good deals at YC the last two times we have stayed there. I hope your family enjoys SAB if you stay there, DH and I love it!

If you are someone that needs a balcony to be happy I would never suggest BC there are just too many rooms without a balcony and someone is going to get stuck with them, and requests are just that, it doesn't matter how many times you have requested something, it doesn't make it more likely to happen.

Anyone else get a POOL room at BC that has BLINDS that allow the pool lights (which are on ALL night) to shine around the sides and light-up the room. A curtain that pulled to the side would have been much better IMO.

I didn't say anything after I got to the room because I had already asked them to change our room when we arrived and found that I had ONCE AGAIN been given a patio after asking for a large balcony, and requesting it online, maybe 4 times.

I think it was our last chance with BC. Every GV room we have had at BWI was better than the POOL/lagoon one I paid $30 a night extra for at Beach Club.

A request is only a request. Never a guarantee. I think that the Beach Club probably has blinds instead of curtains because it's more with the theme.

I know this thread is about the blinds....but even with curtains....when I travel I always have a handful of large paperclips in my purse or even a chip clip to hold that one piece of hotel curtain together that lets the darn sunshine in!

(I'm a travel baseball mom..........hotel expert/ problem solver lol)

The pants hanger in the room usually has clips, and thats a good thing to use to clip the curtains if you forget to bring something with you.

Are these blinds only on first floor rooms?

I think they are on all of the floors. We ended-up on the third floor overlooking the "quite pool".
They did change our room at check-in from the 1st floor to the 3rd so I'm not sure if the one on the 1st floor (patio) had blinds/Roman Shades.
