New Details on MK Toll Booth Area Work Are Good For Fort Wilderness Guests

1) It is just so hard to believe that Disney did something that actually benefitted guests, without true monetary gain to WDW.
. . . of course, it might reduce manpower at the Toll Booth for people going to FW-WL-GF-Poly, or CM's going to Disney University.
. . . that could be the financial payback
2) For traffic other than FW, it would require a Left Turn on Vista Blvd.
3) I assume there will be a either traffic signal or a paramedic station located at that intersection.
. . . making left turns onto Vista are accidents waiting to happen
. . . that is why the light just past the tool booth as one heads toward FW-WL-CR-GF-Poly-DU
. . . this is where Southbound World Drive crosses itself to go to Vista Blvd
. . . we had a Concierge seriously injured when a guest tried to cross the street Front of his motorcycle
. . . motorcycles T-Boning cars are not a good event
. . . bad, REALLY, REALLY BAD, accident
. . . the Concierge was off-work for over 6-months

Of course the financial gain could be paying customers (for parking) can get through much quicker (well, relatively speaking) without all the hotel guests blocking up a booth.

I am sure, somewhere along the line a cost benefit analysis was done.

Except that paved off ramp that is already there...

And paid for

True, but as I recall, isn't it more of a "Wide" walking path as opposed to a roadway? They'd still have to re-do it but I am sure it would be much cheaper to do versus the alternative.

Lane and a half wide. Only needs resurfacing. I just think it a waste of money (another bogus reason for higher rates) to build something completely from scratch when it already exists. They'll have to clear the trees, build up the dirt, put up rails, then complete new surface.

Don't get me wrong, anything to avoid going through the booths is huge bonus, just don't see why the wheel has to be reinvented.

IMO, the existing road would not meet current codes for elevation or weight bearing capacity among other codes so it would have to be removed anyway and as mentioned, the intersection point is not safe.

Regarding #2-I don't think a left turn would be needed on Vista since the World Drive fly-over connects to the current roadway leading to WL, CR and others.

Thanks. Very possibly so. We will wait and see the traffic patterns.

Yep, either way it gets those booths out of the way and that is a major plus.

After looking at the picture and seeing all the vehicles parked in the upper left, it hit. That wider opening used to be a short runway.
Recall that from the 70's when we made our first trip down. Just a bit of trivia I guess.

I have never understood why they don't let motorhomes and trailers use the bus lane on the right side of the booths. A few years ago I bought a truckers GPS and when I get close to WDW I switch from auto mode to trucker mode and it takes me straight in the "back" way. The right turn is no problem with a 37 ft. motorhome.

A 37 foot Motorhome may have no issues, but a 22 foot Truck plus a 36 foot Travel trailer (with about 6 feet in the middle for hitch) has a bit more of an issue. Particularly if there is "oncoming" traffic (so that you cannot take it wide) or if there is outbound traffic on that road (which admittedly is relatively low.)

I guess it's a 50/50 right now. Risk the booth or the tight turn.

Flip a coin. Although like others... My family loves to see the welcome sign.

Gotta have welcome sign.

After that 11 hour drive I gotta have something to make the kids start jumping up and down.

LOL, what about you?

Dude, hearing my kids get excited IS the big thing for me.

Ed has made fun of my pictures of the Fort Wilderness sign as I'm pulling in as being "blurry" from my excessive speed. I have always blamed it on the several Mountain Dews that I usually consume on the trip down.

Hear you Tiggerdad. Some special times. We get to start a new chapter with our two grand daughters this Dec.
They will be one and four.

We come in Western Way now and get to drive under this. It's just as good and I don't have to deal with the toll booth.

I take Buena Vista to Bonnett Creek and come in Vista Blvd to make the dreaded right turn. Actually, the right turn never bothered me, but that was with a 31 ft 5er. Now that I have a battleship to pull around, it may be a little different.
