Effective immediately, power strips, extension cords and the like are no longer permitted on any Disney Cruise Line ships. There will be extension cords available at Guest Services that can be borrowed for a deposit of $50. If you need one for a CPAP or other medical reason, they will make one available for you.

ETA: Per notification sent to TAs by DCL this afternoon.

I emailed DCL on this because my husbands cpap cord will not reach on the Wonder. They said I could bring an extension cord, it just needed to be approved by ships electrician. I could also get one from guest services while supplies last.

Not sure when you emailed them, but this change was made this afternoon.

I had heard the rumors on here no power strips. I was wondering about the extension cords. I emailed them last weekend. As long as it is medical. I will bring a copy of email with me in September. If you borrow one there will be a $50.00 refundable deposit.

I just spotted this news on another Disney forum. No extension cords is now on the DCL Prohibited Items FAQ page.

I hope they have lots to lend, especially since they are promoting their new mobile application for use on the ships.

I don't get it. The "extension cords" part has been on the prohibited list for quite a while (at least a couple of years, maybe more). The "surge protectors" thing has recently been added (1 or 2 months ago).

Are they now actually pulling them out of carry ons and checked bags?

I asked my travel agent to contact DCL to ensure I have what I need to operate my CPAP machine. The Fantasy and the Dream have lots of plugs, including some at the nightstands on either side of the main bed. But my next cruise is on the Wonder...

If I were you, I would contact your travel agent and ensure that your request is noted on your reservation. Make sure to use "medical device" in the language so that your family is given higher priority. I suspect that there may not be enough cords to go around on the first couple sailings after fully implementing this policy.

I don't get what part of this is new. Surge protectors and extension cords have been on the prohibited list for a while.

Yes, they've been on the list. But there's not really been any enforcement. I'm reading Lisa's post as they are now enforcing it. I'm just wondering how.

Ok, no change on their website, are there first hand reports? Link to trip report?

This was sent to TAs today. It's the first mention of being able to get one from GS for a deposit. It sounds like they will be enforcing it if this notice was sent out. Previous policies and emails won't keep them from being confiscated, just like what happened to soft-sided coolers when that policy changed.

Since this notification was sent to TAs this afternoon, there would be no reports of its enforcement yet. I would consider a TA reporting it to their clients after receiving notice from DCL first-hand.

I don't get this. What is the problem with the power strips/surge protectors? They don't have enough outlets in the room for the devices the average family has nowadays. And the PP is right, they are promoting their new onboard app. I guess it is only good the first day, as you won't be able to charge your phone after that. People will start using the outlet in the bathroom that they don't want you to use (that says "shavers only"). So it will end up in a situation where people may be doing something potentially more dangerous as a result of not having enough outlets. Just the latest nonsensical, guest - unfriendly policy.

Thanks, Lisa.

Sorry, Wasn't aware until the post immediately prior to this one that any email was sent. Your original post didn't indicate your source.

Evidently there are problems with them. I hadn't seen anything about this before tonight, but if you google surge protector burn you will find many articles, accounts and pictures.

What is the problem with the power strips/surge protectors?

Fire hazards and major power drains.

We find the given outlets more than adequate. I'm not on a ship to use my cell phone, computer, tablet, DS or any other "device families have nowadays". I'm on a ship to enjoy the ship. :confused3

Spare me the fire hazard nonsense. There are probably a million other things that are more of a hazard. We can make due with the outlets provided. I just hate to see additional policies put in place that are so...for lack of a better term..."anti-guest".

So if they're gone, you're S.O.L.? And there is no way for you to reserve one for medical purposes? What if you're too slow to get to one and they're all gone to those who may not need them for medical purposes? :scratchin

I'm hoping DCL has thought this through, and has laid in supplies for one extension cord per room being available. If not, they're going to have start having a ship's electrician in the terminal to OK private cords being brought onboard.
