New D23 Expo Superthread! (6/24/2019)

Wondering if anyone has a point of reference for the suggestion of allowing “ample time” to screen through security/entry. My teenage daughter was fortunate to get a stage pass for Legends at 10:30am and needs to be in line one hour prior. I am trying to figure out what time is reasonable for drop off that morning. Any suggestions based on prior experiences?

Thanks!

Well, the first day in the morning is usually the most glitchy with security and guest entry. Last time, I know people who lined up at 5 am and didn't get inside the show floor until after 10 am. We got lucky -- hit the line at 7 am and were shuttled inside to the second floor right away for some reason. We entered the show floor around 9:30 am. That didn't happen on the second or third days. (The entry line gets much shorter as the day goes on.) So the suggestion to allow "ample time" is an understatement, especially for Day One.

I would say arrive no later than 8:30 am (earlier the better) since the only people who will be allowed to enter the convention center before 9 am are people with StagePass to Hall D23, where she will be directed to Hall E to line up.

From the reservations FAQ:
Select security screening points will be available 24 hours a day starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 22. When you enter the event, let staff know that you have a StagePassfor Hall D23. You will be directed to Hall E to queue.

Does anyone know how good/bad the cell phone/WiFi coverage is in Hall E? I know the convention center has it's own Wifi

My best tip is to pack your patience. If you are short-tempered and very attached to what's FAIR, you're going to be challenged.
Be prepared to have lines shift and change. While staff desperately tries to adjust and handle huge crowds--they reroute lines. When that happens, hundreds of people are confused and shifting and tons of people get in line ahead of you. Sometimes it's out of sheer confusion and people are trying to follow instruction. Other times it's people just taking advantage and jump in. We saw much yelling and angry people.

We saw this happen numerous time and it was amazing. When the line gets changed, people love it because it's utter chaos for a few minutes. What seemed like it should quick never was. Lines snaked around the building and out to the street. They do not have it under control and it's a circus.

I was "that guy" last week. Nothing was going right and, eventually, on Saturday afternoon, I kept reminding myself...

"You have a great life and are incredibly blessed and lucky to be on vacation for a week, spending a chunk of money on the hotel, park tickets, D23 tickets, lots of dining reservations and spending a day with your sister. Stop being a jerk. :) "

I have a list of things I'd like to do and get (ironically, at this point, none of them are actual panels) and I've made my own, personal decisions on what I want to get out of this trip. Even if I wander the show floor for 3 days and stumble into fun stuff, I am committed to having fun. I am all about fairness and equity; I also know what to expect now...and those things are no longer in the equation. I won't get ruffled about it.

Livestreams announced and can be viewed through Twitter or the featured link. I wonder if more will be added.

I just received an updated reservations email from D23 that included whether or not I’m bringing a guest for each pass, so for those wondering about this, check your inboxes.

No email here yet.

Edit: just got the email but the content won’t load on my phone. Ugh.

I got mine....it says I’m bringing a guest for all of mine...I did not sign up for that.... can I trust this email? Did anyone get one that says “No” under guest?

If I remember correctly the auto default was for bringing a guest. You had to click no to not be bringing one.

I definitely clicked no - I am by myself... but I have yet to hear of anyone saying they received an email with a "No" -- if I have a guest, I'm happy to invite friends, but don't want to give them false hope if it turns out this email is incorrect. I only question because it's not like we've received false starts yet for this Expo ;)

My friend just sent this pic of an unofficial line that started already

Ok so what's with all the chairs? I wasn't going to bring my 1.8 lb. chair that easily folds in my backpack because I thought they were going to be strict with the rules this time.

I see the chairs in this video too and they look bigger than my chair:

Me either I actually did a double take because I could have sworn I hit no for guests. But it says I have a guest.
