New housing development to open summer 2008

Walt Disney World teams supporting the Disney College, International and CareerStart Programs broke ground today on a new housing complex, Patterson Court.

Walt Disney World Co. is collaborating with Wood Partners to build Patterson Court, a home to future participants in the Disney College, International and CareerStart Programs. The new apartment complex, scheduled to open in summer 2008, will have 288 units and will accommodate nearly 1,300 participants.

Disney leaders worked closely with Wood Partners to proactively design a complex that would be a perfect fit for the program experience. Customized features will include four dedicated classrooms, more parking spaces than any other program housing complex and a security guard shack at the entrance.

The new complex also will feature a pool, fitness center, computer lab, car wash area, clubhouse, outdoor grills and laundry facilities. All units also will be equipped with high-speed Internet access.

This looks really nice. Hopefully this means they can do the full Summer Program next summer.

I heard about this too. It is next to Chatham.

Summer 2008 is vague and is probably pretty ambitious. In order to do Summer, they would have to have it ready to be occupied by May. That is less than a year to have a full complex built. Could be done, but that is definately ambitious.

They have a bunch of people living outside of the complexes now. Professional Interns are out by Universal. Some Internationals live in the Tree House Villas (used to be a WDW Resort property).

My safe bet w/o knowing the number of people at these other places is that they will move into whatever is open by Summer.

They need to have it at 100% occupancy year round, so it wouldn't make sense to build something that is only used during the summer months.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying that the new one would just be for the summer. I am just hoping that with the new complex, there will be more room for alumni, thus being able to do the full Summer Program.

This is great! Is there a website with any drawing plans that it might look like? Hopefully it will be done summer 2008 when I come back to do my PI

I'm guess it will first house all of the people who aren't in the big 3 complexes right now. Northbridge, with the PIs, can't be cheap for them.
