I read in a thread the other day about a mom who bought a new outfit for her children for each day of their vacation. I was shocked when I read it... but when I added up all the clothes that I've bought for my daughter this week, it adds up to more than one new outfit a day actually LOL. However, that's simply because *nothing* from last year fit (shorts, skirts and tops were all waaaay too short - she really shot up this winter). Still, I'm going to let her start wearing them as long as it's warm enough.

So... am I a meanie mom that I don't buy new clothes specifically for the trip? I'll probably get her a shirt or two if she wants one while we're there, but it just never occurred to me to buy an entire new wardrobe just for our vacation.

Well, I am a bit of a shopaholic when it comes to kids clothes (I actually moderate a board of Gymboree shoppers on another site, LOL!!!) but I would not say I buy an entirely new outfit just for our vacation. However, in doing our spring shopping (same as you, NOTHING from last year fits either of my kids) I have been thinking what would be for Disney and what probably wouldn't come with us. I have probably bought more than 10 outfits that I picked up because they would be great in Disney so I guess I could say I bought them because of the trip, but they will still be worn all spring/summer so I try to justify it that way.

i think it depends on when the vacation is scheduled... if we were going in may, then yes, my kids would probably get new outfits for each day (i.e. 7 pair of shorts and 7 tank tops) but since we go in august they each get a few new tee shirts/tank tops and that's it (only 'cause they either got their others messed up during arts and crafts at camp or because we want matching tee shirts in disney)... :flower:

I've gotta waffle a bit here...... Normally, I wouldn't buy new clothes for the trip at all. We travel with what we have, no biggie. This trip, though, is coming just as our own NY weather is warming up, so I took the opportunity to weed out what doesn't fit DD out of her clothes from last summer. She's 7, so *nothing* fits, lol. I got lucky enough to stumble on a sale on Disney Tshirts the day I had an appointment at the mall a couple of weeks ago, so I did a bit of stealth buying. (DD7 does not know about the upcoming trip. <grin>) :smooth:

We're going in June and I've started buying my DD (9) an outfit every couple of weeks so that she'll have special ones for the trip.

I'm going to need probably a whole new wardrobe by then because I'm dieting, but that's a good treat :flower:

Hubby will need some new clothes, as will DS (14), although he's less than thrilled about it.

That's why it's good we're starting now!

LOL! Me too, I'm waiting until the week before the trip to shop for me because I want to lose every bit I can before buying!!! Of course with all the dining we will be doing the new stuff probably won't fit by the time we leave. :rotfl:

Maybe a bit OT here, but with the snacking, running around, etc. my kids were a mess nearly everyday both on the cruise and WDW! We have a vacation theme - "every day ends with ice cream." Well, neither DD or DS can eat it without getting it everywhere. I packed 2 brand new outfits for DD when we went and both were worn once on vacation - both are now permanently stained with chocolate!

This time we will most likely not to anything brand new unless it was on the sale rack.

I'm buying DD lots of new clothes, but not necessarily for vacation...she needs new stuff and I'm a bit of a clotheshorse and love shopping for her! :)

I am with the buy it because they grow out of it group. But that said, I am also a serious Gymboree addict and love the way everything matches, it just makes packing and layering easier. There are lots of combinations for the ever changing weather and I can throw in the extra leggings in a ziploc for the cooler nights or just in case. Since we always go in Feb, I do tend to buy ahead of season and "save" things for the trip though.
NJDisneymom, what board are you on?

Oh, and then there is the princess dress Mom made special for the youngest DD so she would "match" the older DD. So that was just for the trip too! (I mean where else is a 9 mth old going to wear a Cindy dress?) princess:

11 of us are going to WDW in about 2 weeks. 5 of them are children but 7 of us got all new clothes. All 7 of us are in new sizes since last year. The children of course are still growing and myself and my dil have both lost a considerable amount of weight. So I on a continueous shopping spree.LOL

If we hadn't changed sizes I'm sure we would have gotten a couple of new outfits. The dh's of the group got a few new shirts and shorts and 2 of them got new shoes.

Since my DS (4) has been growing like a bad weed, I've been catching the early sales and picking up stuff as I go.Plus navy tees will not due in July!(My excuse ;) ) It doesn't hurt that he's the only grandchild on one side and a great nephew to a couple who have no children of their own. No lack of clothes for this fella! :flower:

just bought DS13 (5) more sleeveless tops - more of a shoulder than a tank
Im looking for more of those tank tops w/the built in bra
This is our 1st August WDW vacation - we have matching tshirts but Im thinking those will be too warm
I'll also be doing the back to school shopping the 1st two wks of Aug - once we return from WDW it will be back to school time

I'm terrible because I do buy lots of new outfits that I don't let the kids wear until we get to Disney! I'm a bit of a shopaholic. Luckily we're going the end of June so it won't be like they have to go all summer in rags!

We almost always go to Florida for our April vacation, which means the weather is just turning warmer here and the summer clothes have hit store shelves, so it just happens that most of what my kids wear is new, but I make it very clear that the outfits we buy now will also be getting them through the summer.

We decided as a family to plan a special vacation to WDW every 4 years - for those celebrations, I make or buy matching t-shirts for everyone. In that sense, we are getting new clothes just for Disney. However, we tend to pair our new tees with shorts we already have.

Ugh, we're doing the dining plan too and I'm wondering exactly how much a person can gain in just two weeks (not the length of our WDW stay, but about the length of our total trip).

Have you started a walking regimen or anything like that? I'm so out of shape, so I went for a good long walk yesterday and I'm really feeling it today. Should have started out slower!

Good luck! I hope you lose as much as you'd like.

:teeth: We buy some new things, but not an outfit for every day! It's always nice to have some "new" clothes for the trip :)

My boys are getting mostly new shirts and my oldest is getting all new shorts. We are going in May so none of the oldest's shorts fit him from last year. The younger one just gets the hand me downs from teh oldest.

They both are getting new shirts because I like to dress my boys alike when we are in crowded places - only have to remember the one outfit and if one gets lost I can look at the other and say "oh yeah - that's what he has on" :rotfl:

Two of my girlfriends have little girls almost exactly a year older than my daughter - so they are right now going through their clothes and putting aside things for her for the trip. she's 21 months and MESSY so I hesitate to put anything brand new or too nice on her.

We go in December, so it is too close to Christmas for me to be buying them new clothes. But the whole family gets matching sweatshirts or sweaters to wear for our picture at the Very Merry Christmas Party.

:rotfl2: I just had this conversation with my mother in law -

DH doesn't figure in all my SHopping PRIOR to vacation into the vacation budget or we would never vacation again!

BUT that said - this year the clothes will also be thre summer clothes when we get home!

I even buy new clothes for DH and myself!
:rotfl2:

yes I am a shopaholic

I have b/c the time of year. We usually go in late October, where it's warm enough to wear shorts and swim. She has usually outgrown her summer clothes, this year we are going in May, and I bought almost all new stuff, but she needs new stuff for summer. Now if we were going in July and she already had her summer wardrobe, then I wouldn't buy a new wardrobe. But me being the shopoholic that I am , would buy new outfits, sure.
