New clothes for your WDW trip?

WOW, I didn't realize how many people buy new clothes for vacation! I did buy 2 outfits for the cruise (basically because in the past 5 years I've been pregnant and/or breastfeeding and now finally need a smaller size).

I guess I'll have to look into a few new outfits so we dont feel left out :rotfl2:

What I've been doing is as I find Disney themed stuff on clearance I've been buying it and setting it aside for our trip. For instance, at the 30% off clearance sale they had at the Disney store I got the girls JoJo's Circus T-shirts for 3 dollars that I thought would be cute to wear when we go to MGM for Playhouse Disney. I also got them new Princess PJs. I am not going out and buying them a new wardrobe but I am trying to have them wear something Disney each day and not letting them see it so it's a surprise--I see it as saving money actually because each new disney thing that they are surprised with is one less souvenir I need to buy!
Other stuff I've stocked up on are Disney coloring books for the plane; princess flip flops; princess hats and princess lip gloss.
I've been really budget conscious about the whole thing and don't think I've spent more than $5 on any one item but by the time I finish they will likely have something new to wear each day of the trip & some fun new accessories to surprise them with.

Oh My- I think I might be the mom the original poster spoke of.

We usually go to WDW in December or January so I have to buy clothes for them in case it's hot in a size up from what they wore the summer before and I buy them a few new long sleeve shirts (usually with a pattern to disguise any ice cream bar drips). Then when we get back they can use the long sleeve shirts for several months until Spring.

I buy the clothing with the expectation that they will wear it as part of their regular wardrobe when we get back.

I personally but LOTS of their outfits at the Children's place so I can get matching clothes. I love how nice they look whe the have the same outfits on and if one child were to get separated, we have an exact visual as to what the "missing" child was wearing.

I bought 10 shirts already for our trip in Jan 2006 that were on sale at The Children's Place plus the had an extra 30% off the marked down items plus I found a 15% off in-store coupon so I got shirts for 3-5$ each and a few skorts for 5-7$ each.

Then pack them away in their ziplock bag with the matching clearance socks and hair accessories and I am all set for our trip other than throwing some jeans and leggings in the suitcase.

Besides, just buying something for the trip seems to make the wait a little more bearable.

I do the same thing! I shop at our local Disney store, ok well a lot! My husband says I stalk the merchandise, actually I am just waiting for the price I want to pay. I combine this so called stalking with my mall walking routine. (I go to the Mall of America in MN so I really get my work out if I walk all 4 floors, and 9 months out of the year it's too yucky to walk outside) I save lots of disney stuff for our trip, mostly clothes though. I just haven't figured out how to get my husband to wear something Disney every day!

We travel a lot so here's something I do for my husband and I since we generally do not grow(not a lot) in between seasons like our kids. I have under the bed plastic bins that I fill with vacation clothes. I seperate them by seasons and then pull them out when we are headed a to our next destination. Usually I have to replace one or two things but it beats purchasing a whole new wardrobe. This way the clothes stay nice. I am one of those people that like to have new clothes on vacation.

I have bought my 2 kids new clothes for our vacation. They have nothing that fits from last summer. Im not letting my DD wear any of it until then because she is a slob and everything she owns ends up stained lol. We go in early June so its no big deal to make them wait to wear the new stuff.

I buy things here and there for our trips. I've been watching for things for my grandkids for their first trip with us in Sept. Disneydeals has some great bargains, I've gotten my DGS 3 shirts for 99cents each, he's just at that right size to find things for him cheap. DGD's shirts were $4-$5 each. Not such a great deal, but she loves them! We have a big family trip coming up, 16 of us, and I'm getting everyone shirts from disneydeals and disney dollars for their birthdays.
I've been getting myself some new clothes, too, because in photos of the last 6 trips I'm wearing mostly the same outfits!!!

every spring and fall anyway so I just got to use this as an excuse to buy new clothes for all three of us this time.

I don't shop like a normal person though, I am a sale a holic!!! I hit the 50%-75% off racks for all of us and I find that if you go to "NICE" department stores to do this you can usually get MUCH nicer clothes for what you'd pay at a not so nice store for non sale items.

I hardly ever go on vacations like this one so I wanted the family to have an extra special time at WDW new duds and all ;)

I'm in the same boat, DD has grown out of everything. Since we are going in May she will be getting alot of new clothes just for our trip, but since she needs them anyway I figured it can't be too bad.....

If you think your t-shirts will be too hot, you could try sleeve wraps, like some soccer teams use for their soccer shirts. It's a strip of fabric with velcro on the ends. It goes thru the neck of the shirt, and out the arm hole (you can roll up the sleeve for a neater look). So it effectively brings the sleeve of your tshirt up to make it almost sleeveless. They come in all colors, some have sayings, or if you're really creative, you could make your own!

DD is getting all new clothes. We went shopping last week. However, all new clothes go into the suitcase and she wears her last year's clothes to play.We live in South Louisiana where its practically spring/summer all year long. Last year's clothes were worn so much they look like last century's!!

I can't say enough about walking. Last year, we went to Washington DC and Williamsburg for 10 days.I lost 14 lbs!. I thought my pants were looser and when I got on my scale back home--Yipeeeee!!! I haven't regained and now weigh (SHHH) 125. Only 5 more than when I was married 24 years ago. Don't even care if I lose anymore. I never thought that I would ever say that....

I have been buying a pair of shorts and a shirt every week for my boys so by the time we leave in June most of their clothes will be new. The main reason is that they are the same size so they share clothes but this vacation my oldest is going with me and my youngest is going on vacation with my mom and they have 6 pairs of shorts between them. So Basically I have to double what they have now. I have lost 25 pounds that I had gained over the winter so all of my spring clothes from last year now fit and I don't have to buy any for me. My oldest is underweight and weak and my youngest is a little husky
so I started taking them to the track with me and we can all now jog a mile :flower: Pretty good start for a 9 & 7 year old and the old lady

Our kid will get new clothes, but really because we are going at the start of summer for us and they all grew and have no clothes from last summer that fit. If we were going later in the summer, then they wouldn't get "new" clothes for the trip.

For the poster looking for the tanks with the built in bra, look at Kohl's. They had some a few weeks ago when I was there. I got a couple for DD, not that she needs the bra, but they were the only kind they had in her size, lol. Kohls.com has 99 cent shipping on every order now, too, if you aren't close to one.

I kinda did this. I wanted my girls to match every day while down there. So, since they didn't have many matching outfits, it meant supplementing their current wardrobe. But they both needed a few more summer outfits anyway, so don't feel bad really. The older dd had a Minnie dress, bought a Minnie dress for the 2 1/2 yr old dd. They both have denim shortalls, bought them matching shirts to go with them. They had about 3 matching shirts, bought them shorts to go with those. And matching swimsuits too, btw.

To me it makes it easier to spot them if they are matching, makes for cuter pictures, and the girls LOVE to match. And they will wear them all summer so it's not a waste. Except the Minnie dress maybe, LOL. ::MickeyMo

And I bring a stain stick (shout or spray and wash) with me on all vacations. If you treat the stain when they take off the outfit for the day, even if you dont' get to it till 10 days later it will come clean.

Nora, only 11 more days!! :hourglass

I match my dd's also. My oldest won't participate anymore, she's 13 but she will for pics. I match the other two 4 and 2 all the time. I can get obsessive with it, matching pj's also. It's harder though because dd4 is fitting into big girl clothes now. Last night I went to target and bought matching outfits 5t and 2t for the trip. They both need clothes for the summer so it had to be done anyway!!! Just found out I am having ANOTHER DD so I can carry on my obsession!!!! :p

BTW way, thanks for the stain stick tip, I was looking at all the new clothes wondering if I should get bibs so they don't get ruined!!

Oh, I'm glad you reminded me! I took one last year and used it several times. I'll add it to my packing list!

We live in SW FL so I'm not buying my kids new clothes when we go next month, they will wear the same ones they wear all year long. I am picking them up some Disney tees and souveniers at the thrift stores now, and will hand them out on the trip so I don't have to pay full price at WDW.
I did get myself some Teva's (thanks for the link!) since I only have Birkenstocks that are open in the back and don't want my shoes to fall off on a ride, and haven't had luck finding any at the thrifts.

We are going in May, but since my DD's 5 and 7 needed all new clothes, I just shopped away! In the end, they new have 14 and 16 new outfits respectively. I love shopping, and I have purchased these clothes over the last couple of months. I feel that everyone is different, I have a friend who is very well off, but she doesn't buy them very much for each season, she just doesn't like shopping. I totally enjoy it!

Aren't the sales great? I was so excited when I saw the prices on t-shirts at the DS! I did a Grumpy theme for everyone in the family for our June trip. My dh just returned from a trip to Anaheim and bought us matching Mickey shirts, and I ordered personalized t-shirts from Disney. We're set! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I also bring SHOUT wipes along with me. I bring the SHOUT bottle with the scrubby brush on top. I think BIZ is alos good for stains too.

I'm with the majority here: I don't buy clothes specficially for a certain vacation, but I always buy new things for spring/summer (because they're always needed). When packing for vacation, I'd pack the kids newest /nicest things rather than the old cut-offs that still fit but are only appropriate for backyard play.
