New BLT Rumors--PART II

OK perhaps speculation is a bit more accurate. I knew I went out on a limb reporting this, but did so because I thought it could be an important link to the information. Notice, I did say I thought the idea was a little wacked.

And thus is the problem with journalism today. Speculation and discussion of speculation is not "reporting". It's gossiping.

No personal offense meant. Just an axe I've been waiting to grind from all what passes for news I've been following lately. And I'm really anal about vocabulary sometimes. Feel free to smack me with a wet trout for my mouthiness.:3dglasses

With the shoe on the other foot..what IF it did turn out to be Marriott and I KNEW for Months about the similarities. How would all you dissers feel if I kept you in the dark? Hmmm.... I put it out there for discussion.

I'm sorry to the DISSER who is also now fed up with the rumor mill because of this speculation.

Well if Marriott were to build a property on disney property I'd love it as a marriott owner. I spent 10 days in central London all on reward points. I'd never be able to afford the hotel bill otherwise. This way I could not buy BLT but still stay there with my existing and cheaper Marriott ownership.

Which of course is why logically this would never happen.

OK, everybody, I'll tell you the information I got "straight from the horse's mouth!"

When we were there in July, I said, very innocently, what's that big building? The BUS DRIVER said, that's Condominiums...for PURCHASE!!!
Wow, said I , let's buy one. He said, oh, no, they'll be going for a lot of money!

Anybody want to chip in and buy one? LOL

Hmmm, now I know why we started getting free wi-fi as DVCers...to bring it in line with what Marriott hotels were already offering for free! ;)

Except we don't get free wi-fi. We get free wired internet. Wi Fi still costs money.

(And the full service Marriotts charge an averge of $10 a day for internet, it's not free. It's free at their lower priced properties.. So using the Marriott model, we will pay and the All Stars will be free)

However, if it was a Marriott we would have better bed quality!

So true!! So true!!!

But don't you think that there are a tad too many sheets/comforters/runners on those Marriott beds? I ususally squish everything down and sleep under the one sheet. They should have the Peri-Menopausal Light Coverings Bedding Option (PMLCBO for short).

That feature has been part of the building design dating back nearly 2 years to concept artwork leaked on the Internet:

If Disney had an agreement to merge with Marriott, they wouldn't have kept it quiet this long.

And the two designs don't look all that similar, IMO.

Kinda stretching the definition of "rumor" here, aren't we? popcorn::

It's the penthouse :upsidedow

DVC is one of Disney's biggest cash cow's right now. The last thing they are going to do is turn the reigns over to Marriott. And I think its safe to say that after almost 40 years, Disney also knows the hotel business. Perhaps they even know it better. I mean if Disney can convince guests to pay Ritz prices for Marriott service and amenities, then maybe Marriott could learn something from Disney.....

Oh and the thingy on top of the building is just a facade to cover the motors for the elevators:)...

The "thingee" in the center of the building I believe is only ornamental. The elevators appear to be beneath the 2 smaller crowns to the left and right. From observing the construction here all year, I do not see anything resembling an elevator beneath it. From what I understand, the design firm that did the DVC building is the same one that designed the Contemporary Convention Center which has identical crowns to the left and right of the porte cochere. They are meant to echo the A-frame of the main building.

As far as the Marriott angle....check out the Renaissance Denver and Marriott Knoxville while youre at it those were built about 35 years ago too. Guess which building that architect also designed?

In the hotel business there are only so many designers, elements are used and reused from project to project.

:rotfl2:

That's actually a good point! Disney knows how to get money out of folks.....

The BLT looks more "corporate" than family oriented in the design. Perhaps Disney has not captured enough convention business in Orlando? In any event a family vacation to me means a family friendly hotel/resort.

Well, if this tower turns out to be DVC, I will definately try to book at 7 months.

CR used to hold no appeal to me ... but now that I have 2 little ones who LOVE the MK, the location can't be beat. I love the monorail as well, so that is definately a plus. I can picture us in a Bay Lake view ... we don't need to see the castle from our room.

Ditto. I'd be looking to buy as soon as it's available... if i can talk DH into it :thumbsup2

I've been wanting to add on. I told DH about the rumors on point price for BLT. Now, I have the green light to add on BWV.:woohoo: I guess the high price for BLT will help sell the others.

I think you are right. We have been discussing all the "what if's" and we are starting to think about back up plans (tranlates-where to add on instead of at BLT)

FWIW (probably nothing), we were riding in the front of the monorail the other day, and when one of us referred to the construction as DVC, the monorail driver said that "no, those are regular rooms."

perhaps the "leaked" info as to price point & status is just what was intended to sell some of the excess inventory before the next best thing is offered;)

Re: $140/point.
What if DVC offered BLT with a guaranteed MF cost of at least $1/point/year cheaper than AKV.
They could use "Disney Math' and say you will save at least $50/point lifetime, thus BLT is worth the premium over AKV selling in the $90's (with incentives)

Hhhmmm! I have to drink more coffee and then come back and work that out!

We really like AKV a lot. But two of our kids are visually impaired and I am worried about the lighting there. We neverstay at VWL because it is too dark. Whenever we go there for dinner waliking to the boat/bus stop is a bit of a challenge after nightfall. I'm not sure if I would just add more points somewhere else totally.:confused3
