If it helps, then it's worth it! I hope it helps! S

Sandra I think it's just another "scheme" to get more money out of us!

We are getting "taxed" to death here and that's why I'm looking to fly out of Buffalo next year!:)

Fortunately I booked a flight to Edmonton on Saturday. The travel agent told me I was lucky to book that day since the tax hadn't been added yet. Saved me a little money. I had no idea it was being instituted on April 1st.

We're flying from London to Winnipeg via Westjet later this spring, and Westjet had newspaper ads galore imploring everyone to book their tickets before April 1 to save the tax. For the 4 of us, it saved us $100. There was an interesting string of articles in the paper last week outlining how much the security measures would cost and how much it's expected the tax will rake in. Suffice it to say that they'll be taking in far more than they'll be spending, according to what I've read.

Hi, I have "silly blond lady" question. We bought our airline tickets in January 2002. I thought we would get hit with the tax regardless of when we bought the tickets. Is that true? Or are we okay and don't have to pay since we purchased before April 1? THANKS! S

My understanding is that if you have booked and paid for your ticket before April 1, regardless of when you are actually flying, you do not have to pay the tax. Of course, from here on in, everyone will be paying it.

Great, so that's $100 I don't need to spend! Thanks! Sandra

Ugh I could kick myself...I should have bought my Orlando tickets Saturday as well...UGH

I was wondering about one comment from the government re: if the tax makes more money than is needed than they will lower the price of the security tax. Does anyone believe that is ever going to happen or maybe the unions might say ' in that case increase our salaries or we will strike'! I am getting a little fed up with the government constantly giving themselves huge increases in pensions, free travel, housing, fringe benefits etc and complaining that their jobs are so hard. In that case look for an 'easier' job and stop expecting the everyday person to pay for everything and then some!! Train people properly and hold people accountable when a job is not done well. Sorry I know I sound preachy but somedays one gets fed up with this tax and that tax and three bags full tax.

There, I feel better now.......:o I feel so embarressed, about my blowing off steam, Sorry!

Don't worry about being *preachy*, you sound just fine! I remember when govt' started taxing the interest income from back accts! I was livid! I thought, I make money ~ I am taxed, I spend money ~ I am taxed, Now I save money ~ and I am taxed! Now I have to add ~ going on vacation ~ and I'm taxed. I will try and stay positive and hope there is extra security. The unfortunate test would be if something horrible happened, when we would know that it's not worth it. I am fed up with taxes too! Especially this time of year. Sandra
