New 2010 Promotion

Can someone let me know if I'm understanding this correctly?

I want to puchase a 7 day ticket. I get volunteer, get the voucher, send it in, receive something that I show at the ticket booth. Then, I pay for the 7 day ticket less the $80? Correct? This is a savings of $300 for our family (three adults, one child's ticket).

If this is correct, need to lobby our local food bank that I volunteer at to see if they can participate!:thumbsup2

I mean this in all sincerity....

you seem to be posting quickly without thinking about your posts and are actually jumping on people who agree with you...

take a deep breath - it is possible for normal rational people to disagree without becoming irrational.

Deep breath...aaahh.

Thank you for your concern. I did misunderstand one post. I don't think this has caused me to become irrational. I am grateful for people like you that are kind enough to keep pointing out a past error that has already been addressed and apologized for. I don't think any of my posts have been irrational. I have simply been stating my opinions.

well - you say you don't make judgements and name call but you said this about me based on me saying that i understood her point of view?!?!?!

I didn't make that comment based on you agreeing with her. I said that based on you stating that you "proudly watch Fox news." That is not something to be proud of. Fox news spreads lies and preaches intolerance and hatred. The fact that you proudly watch that channel is the reason for my comment. People that watch Fox news are ignorant and misguided. There is no way to sugar coat that. This is my opinion. I'm not passing judgement on you or personally calling you a name.

I am very well educated, used to work for a member of congress and am far from ignorant on the issues. Fox isn't the only place i get my news - i actually do pretty extensive reserch on both sides of the issue. After all - that is the responsible thing to do. Don't kid yourself into thinking that the mainstream media actually puts the whole truth out there anymore than fox does.

You are complaining about people not reading an entire post but i think that if you really read tammi's post that you would see that she did say she is overextended and that is why she feels this is not worth her time.

I think there are great government programs but there are also a lot of abuses of the system. I think some people will get great benefit from this program and i don't have a problem with the promotion - i think it is a great idea - but it is not great for my family.

I also foster volunteering in my children - and we volunteer around my house without any compensation - after all once you get the compensation - you aren't really volunteering are you? I actually would prefer to make the donation of $80 to the disney children's hospital and get the free ticket they offer.

I know plenty of well educated people that are strangely ignorant, so education has no bearing on this. Just look at our last president. He graduated Yale, yet he was dumber than a sack of potatoes. (I am passing judgement on him). On the other end of things, i don't take what i hear on msnbc as fact either. I know that network is left leaning. I, like you, also take into consideration both sides of issues and seek out actual news.

I did read her post and she clearly stated that the reason it was not worth her time was not because she is overextended, but because she is worth more than $8 an hour. That is fine. That is how she feels and she let it be known.

You are most likely a nice and generous person. I don't think you are a bad person because we may have different views. I'm sorry if you take offense to anything that I have said, but these are my honest opinions.

Please let the arguing go. Agree to disagree. I want to hear more about the promotion! :)

ITA - Really, let it go already

Actually they are releasing a new Muppet Movie in the not-to-distant-future. It was announced at Disney's Big media event (whatever that thing was called).
So I think you might have nailed it as to why they are using the muppets to promote this.

Damn I am good

I think they are calling it "The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made."

I personally would like to see a big screen adaption of the Fraggles, but the Muppets are still kind of exciting.

Love it!! Just came back from WDW yesterday, and no, we didn't have a bday with our trio (although we were so amazed at the twins/triplets we saw there...and thought that they definitely were able to take advantage of the Celebration promotion! good for them!)

I already do quite a bit of volunteering and think this is a great way to promote it and reward it while instilling these values in our youth. We don't have plans yet to return in 2010, but I'd love to still do the volunteering and donate my ticket! Thank you Disney! What a GREAT PROMOTION!!

I love the new promotion! I'm big into volunteering and think it is a great way to promote making a difference in the lives of others.

I think this is an excellent promotion. Children just may realize the power of helping someone. And recieving a free day at WDW for a day of hard work.

I don't think this will be very successful. How many people will actually take advantage of this? Seems a bit far-fetched to me. Plus the cost of one day admission for one person in a family trip is negligible. Way too much of a hassle for the typical disney family vacationers to take advantage of.

Prehaps that is the idea? Disney isn't banking on giving that many free days away...thus less expense for them!

I really think this theme is going to be a good one! I love how they are using the Muppet's to promote it and I also think that it will inspire people to volunteer.

I also love how they are carrying the "What Will You Celebrate" into the 2010 year!

I don't like it.

I may agree with you but I'm waiting to see the list of "approved" places to vounteer.

Dont get me wrong I vounteer a lot of my time, I'm a firefighter/training officer for our local Fire Dept.

I also dont like any thing that makes lines long. I wish they blocked out a month you had to use the free day so I could avoid the million people they hope to get into the parks by not going that month.

I wish WDW could just get back to the point where they didn't need to offer promotions.

Better economy = better attendance

......and maybe a just little less sense of entitlement. Disney has spoiled a lot of people with various promotions. Maybe this is there way of weining people off of the promotion expectations.

And yes Virginia...... back "in the day", people used to actually go to Disney World and pay for their meals, pay full rack rate for their rooms, not get discount coupons, etc.

Getting back to reality one day is going to be tough on all of us.

As someone who has been going to Disney since forever, I'm happy to see this promotion. In fact, I hope they continue to offer promotions ad infinitum.

We just came back earlier this week and, imo, parts of Disney are in a sad state of affairs. Living Seas is in dire need of repair in several areas. Some of the magic is rubbing off.. just a little. Hopefully a campaign like this will keep people going to the parks.

Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, I'm looking forward to this promotion. Bring it on! :thumbsup2

I have to agree with you. We were there in August and there were a lot of attraction features that were broken and seemed to be pushed aside and not fixed. It make a little of the magic disappear. I wrote about that in my small trip report. I am skeptical abou this promotion but I hope I am wrong.

Very interesting thread!!! At a minimum, it seems like there are lots of different opinions about this promotion! :goodvibes

On a related note, a few local Moms Panelists were lucky enough to be invited to observe the formal "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" announcement ceremony by Jay Rasulo yesterday morning in Chicago. It was held at a volunteer site (there were several different sites choosen for the kickoff event yesterday, including Atlanta, Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles and Chicago), where an army of volunteers showed up to help fix up the school (painting, building an outdoor classroom, building benches, etc.). It was amazing to witness the dedication of all these volunteers, and certainly made me more excited about this promotion.

Thought some (probably not all ;)) of you would be interested to see some photos. If you are, you can see them at...

If this is the new promotion, I don't like it either. We have annual passes so we won't be able to take advantage of this promotion.

Why not?

You can do the volunteer work, get a free ticket, and then donate it to an organization you support so that they can use the ticket as part of a fund-raiser or raffle and raise money.

Or ... you can take one of the other gifts offered.

:earsboy:

Living Seas, as an example, had several areas where the carpet was so worn out, huge patches of it were missing.. the edges were frayed and the metal underneath was exposed. I'm not talking about tiny spots, I'm talking about areas that were nearly a square foot wide.

Many of the Disney touches were gone. No sweepers (therefore there was garbage strewn around), the flamingos are gone (nothing replaced them), the deep-sea diver in Living Seas is gone. Stands and shelving in Mexico were so beaten up that chunks of wood were missing. There used to be a time when Disney made sure all the lightbulbs throughout the parks were lit. We started counting how many had blown out, but got bored when we realized we were counting into the hundreds.

Cast members are down to the bare minimum. One person has to watch several stations and when he/she takes a break, the stand is left empty.

I never post a trip report because, to be honest, I'd bore myself to death. 500+ trips and believe me, I do notice the difference. Each time lately, it's been a little more disheartening :(

Sorry if this question has already been asked...

If I volunteer and want to give my ticket to a friend or family member, can I do that? Or does the ticket have to be used by the actual volunteer who earned it?
