New 2010 Promotion

Why is that so funny? :confused3

Eight hours of my time is worth way more than $80.

Now, on the other hand, I would gladly buy someone a one day pass if they would do 8 hours of work for me! My yard needs a good mowing and I have a few truckloads of mulch that needs to be spread around. Any takers?

First - volunteering is great and all that comes with it. Helping out your communities, neighbors and such.....excellent.

The reward for this is not so great if you are staying for a week or more. If you are going into this just for that reward then it will only save a family of four about $15 as tickets for a week only go up about $3-4 a day for each day after 4.
For locals or weekenders it will be a better $ savings.

The just of it though is to get people/families out there helping in their communities and that is what makes it sound like a good idea.

And, apparently, the only people who will be eligible will be ones who live in one of like six cities in America. I appreciate encouraging volunteerism, but if I don't live in LA, NY, Chicago, DC, Atlanta or Sacramento it's not really something I can participate in -- even if I want to. Um . . . k.

I'm not a fan of anything where they exclude anyone not living in US. Incredibly disappointed and very unhappy about this promotion :sad2: This can't be THE 2010 promotion to replace YOAMD &WWYC??!! I think volunteering is great and should be encouraged, but for those very precious weeks I manage to get away to WDW I go to escape reality and have FUN!! Give me a world of clouds, balloons, dreams, happiness and a whole big bunch of F-U-N!!!! Give us a FUN & INCLUDING promotion in addition and I'm sure everyone would be HAPPY!!

they must have taken your comment the wrong way. I agree with you, my time is worth more than $80. :headache: i don't consider this volunteering because you don't get paid for volunteering...

It definitely does seem limited to who could qualify.

Are we sure this is Disney's new theme this year? The article doesn't make mention of Disney running with this as a new theme. This could be just something extra that they are doing, as well as something that includes everyone else.

I think it sounds like a good promotion. Will I participate? No, but I didn't participate in the free birthday promotion either. So now we know for sure that the free birthday promotion will indeed come to an end in December as predicted.

I like the idea of encouraging volunteerism. However, I do think that everyone in the country should be eligible to participate. That would encourage even more volunteers!

This looks serious enough to be the promotion - from this morning GMA.

Where is this information from?

I don't think this will be very successful. How many people will actually take advantage of this? Seems a bit far-fetched to me. Plus the cost of one day admission for one person in a family trip is negligible. Way too much of a hassle for the typical disney family vacationers to take advantage of.

Where did you find that. I went to the site who will be hosting this "the Hands on Network". Put in my zip code and found a ton of places...not saying all of these will do it, but I am 40 miles out of Boston and there were quite a few volunteer opportunities.

I couldn't find this either. It did say US and Canada. I did find it interesting that you can no longer get a fun card if you're an AP holder. An AP holder can get a figurine, fast pass, or donate their ticket. However, the one day ticket can be used to upgrade to a multi-ticket. The FAQ does say that the birthday promotion is ending in December 2009.

The FAQ says that every member of the family that volunteers can receive the ticket. It does not say one per family. Though the family members need to be 6 yo or older to participate. I did read that you can donate your ticket too. I will have to find some locations near me. If I can help clean up a school or day care center, I would be most interested in that. After my back surgery a couple of years ago, I'll have to be more selective of my service.

Here is the website about the new promotion: http://disney.prizelogic.com/en/default.aspx. You can also sign up to win a trip to Disneyland or Walt Disney World.

It is nice that Disney is trying to get people to volunteer. I won’t be participating in this new promotion, since we have annual passes.

You can still do the promotion if you have an annual pass:

If I have a valid multi-day ticket or Annual Pass or Passport , is there anything else that I can receive?

Guests who present a valid multi-day ticket or Annual Pass or Passport may choose from one of the following three options instead of receiving the free 1-day, 1-park ticket:

◦Disney's Special FASTPASS® cards for certain attractions for you and up to 5 additional members of your party.†
◦A collectible Ear Hat figurine with exclusive trading pins‡
◦Donate your free ticket to a non-profit organization designated by Disney Parks

Brilliant idea for a promotion. Two thumbs up.
