New 2010 Promotion

This thread is really kind of awe inspiring. Who knew that DISers could treat each other so badly!!
In any case...maybe Disney should reword this 'program' and rather than call it a promotion they could call it a thankyou for volunteering. Not everyone is able to volunteer. I do, my dd does. Will we be volunteering in order to get a day's pass from WDW? Ah no, I doubt it. We volunteer for the sheer good that it does. It is good for those on the receiving end and it is doubly good for of us on the dispensing end..really.
But all this whooha about whether or not it's a good promotion?? Really. It may be time for a reality check here people. This isn't going to save you thousands of dollars, probably not even hundreds of dollars. For heaven's sake, you can add days onto a hopper pass for mere pennies.
I just can't understand the uproar over this. But, that's just me. I'm just glad I don't moderate this board....way too nasty to each other over here. I'm not at all sure what makes one person's opinions more valid than someone else's, but that sure does seem to be the case here. Truly sad.

I think this promotion will be successful with locals because it allows the entire family a chance for free admission. A family (with children 6 years and older) can spend one day together volunteering and each member receive a free ticket. In this tough economy, I think it's great to give families a chance to experience Disney magic who otherwise could not afford it.

No this is not a Nike commercial.

I have volunteered somewhere between 6000 and 8000 hours over my lifetime. Most, but not all in the boy scouts and coaching for recreational sports leagues. I had a very successful career, however my most rewarding and I believe valuable time was spent in these organizations. This is why I describe myself as a scoutmaster not my professional title. I have also heard every excuse why someone does not volunteer. Almost all of them are valid. I will also say that some of the volunteers I have worked with had 10 times the excuse but thought it was important.

Now for the challenge

Find a good organization and volunteer. I believe that you will find that once you are there that the least reward is the free ticket. I think kudos are in order for Disney. My guess is that this will get many many people into great organizations that will continue well beyond the requirements for a free ticket.

I will DEFINITELY participate in this promotion!
Not only is volunteering just a good thing to do period, but the free day passes might help make my family's August 2010 trip a reality. Anything that will ease the burden of planning another 2010 WDW visit is much appreciated by me!
If not, I would even be happy to donate my ticket because volunteering comes down to giving back, doesn't it?

Very true.

Sorry if this question has already been asked...

If I volunteer and want to give my ticket to a friend or family member, can I do that? Or does the ticket have to be used by the actual volunteer who earned it?

I think I read somewhere that the ticket will be non-transferable. So, we won't be able to give it to another family member or friend.

Correct.

Quoted from the rules:

Can I give the free ticket to someone else?

The ticket is non-transferable, but you can choose to donate your ticket to a non-profit organization designated by Disney Parks.

So, "no" to a family member or friend.

mommmmmm!!!!!

Daddddddd!!!!!

They're fighting on the Dis againnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

I just can't beleive it hasn't been locked. This is quiet the brawl. All the mods must be at Disney today laughing at the mess the boards will be in when they get back. Hey guys, get out of line for Toy Story Mania and come fix this mess! :)

This is a reminder that argumentative and sarcastic posts are not allowed on the DISboards. Several posts in this threads have been deleted and infractions have been issued. Feel free to continue debating the merits of the new promotion if you wish, but please treat your fellow DISboards members with courtesy and respect while doing so. Otherwise, this thread will be closed. Thank you.

I have mixed feelings about this promo. Volunteering is a very good thing to do but should you be rewarded for it? Isn't that payment and then that is a job. Volunteering is out of the goodness of your heart and not done because you want something out of it. Instead you should be giving instead of receiving.:rolleyes1

Id like to make just a few comments.
First if this gets someone to volunteer to get a ticket it helps the community.
Second, as someone mentioned if you live close to the parks it might help someone enjoy a day at disney who otherwise couldn't.
Third & last is that this will be a much cheaper promotion for Disney than the birthday one. They will write off $80/ticket as a charity donation but most people will only save the cost of that 1 extra day which is very small for most vacationers. And not giving gift cards will increase what they will take in on sales of stuff. It's a promotion but not much of a one for most.

A wee bit too altruistic, don't you think? There is nothing wrong with being rewarded for doing a good deed. Look at it as a win/win situation. Just because someone volunteers "out of the goodness of ones heart".. that doesn't make the benefits received any more special.

You can always donate your tickrt to a charity

Then it is like a double good thing

1- Donate your time

2- Donate the ticket

Now you are really teaching your children to give of them selves and not to expect anything in return.
If that is your concern

DH and I are def. going to volenteer- We may or may not be able to go to WDW in 2010- If not we will donate the ticket

I haven't told my son about this promotion yet. I am planning to wait until we get down there and surprise him. We have annual passes, so we don't need the tickets, but he is an avid pin collector. I'll let him choose either the pin hat or donating the ticket. When he hears that Disney is rewarding him for his volunteering, that will show him that sometimes good things happen, when you do good for others. He doesn't expect anything in return for his work, but it is still nice for Disney to show their appreciation in this way. Whether intentional or not on Disney's part, this is a rare promotion that doesn't just offer a discount, but really is a call to give a little of yourself for others in need. It is a promotion that might just add numerous new, much needed volunteers in various sectors. It really has potential to make a significant, positive change. I think it is a brilliant promotion and Walt would be proud

Agree that Walt would love this idea.

Also, I'm happy to see that this is aimed at North America. Disney has various other locations abroad that can (if they so choose) offer the same type of promotion. Disneyland Paris can perhaps be the base for European operations.
