New 2010 Promotion

WWYC is still the theme.

From http://blog.touringplans.com/2009/09/29/2010-disney-parks-free-admission-promotion-volunteer/:

"The end-spiel in the ad says “Beginning in January, give a day of service to a participating organization and get a one-day ticket to one of our parks, free!.” They are still keeping the “What will you celebrate?” slogan in their ad. According to the DisneyParks.com website, the “Free On Your Birthday” promotion ends December 31st, 2009."

I just went to disney world web site and they have the new promo up with the WWYC theme.

My biggest confusion is that they say you can start searching for volunteer opportunities on Jan 1st. Well, I'm going to Disney on Jan 2nd. So that means, in order to participate, I would need to search there website on Jan 1st and find something listed for Jan 1st. Probably not going to happen.

Yeah - doesn't help you much. Won't do much for people visiting in December 2010, since the 1 million volunteer goal will probably have been reached by then. I'm going mid January, so it's going to be hard for me to get the volunteer hours in by then. I'm going to try, but ....

I hope there are more announcements to be made .....

I don't think that they will just stop the promotion once they have reached 1 million volunteers, I think the 1 million is their goal, not a set limit.

I personally think that this promotion is an excellent one because it will cause people to want to volunteer in order to get a free park day admission to WDW or DL.

This new promo just warms me all over!!! Instead of it being about "me, me, me, me" it's about giving back. Looks like the "volunteer" area during the D23 Expo was leading up to this promotion!

It does say the 1-day ticket voucher is upgradeable to a multi-day ticket or annual pass.

Also, I think when you volunteer, not when you redeeem is the key.

My current AP expires on December 1st, 2010. (I got the 15 month renewal).

I'm going back on December 4th, 2010.

So I will try to find a volunteer opportunity at some point throughout the year, get my voucher, and wait to redeem it on December 4th, then upgrade to an Annual Pass. (If I find a ticket person that knows what they are doing, I should even be able to do an Annual Pass renewal.)

So what I'm saying is even if your trip is in December, 2010, I'm pretty sure that once you get your email voucher earlier in the year, you can redeem it through December 15th, 2010.

I have read on the Disney website that you can you use the value of your free ticket after you volunteer to up- grade the ticket of course you would have pay the difference, I think for a DVC member or even a renewal this would be a good deal.

Value of a Disney ticket $80.00
DVC Member discount $100.00
Total for annual pass $ 309.00 for an annual pass…………….Not Bad, I think it’s a good deal!

Did I just make sense??????? Did I get that right?:surfweb::rolleyes1:confused:

In multiple places in the FAQs, it says that ticket quantities are limited. It also says the program runs through 12/15/2010 or until the tickets have been distributed. I think Disney absolutely means to cap the number of volunteer tickets at 1 million.

Oh, I was wrong. I thought that it was just a 'goal'. So they only have enough "gifts" for 1 million people and thats it?

I agree.
I think Disney is going to do a good job with this theme, about giving back. It goes along with the eco-friendly theme that is hitting some of the parks (in the merchandise - such as Disney selling eco-friendly items, and WWF shirts).

I think this is going to give Disney a boost :)

I think it sounds like a good idea. I could actually see us doing something! Not for the free ticket, but the FP thingy would be cool. If I could find something appropriate for DD and I to do together, it could be a really neat experience for both of us.

As someone who has volunteered directly with Disney (for events at Wide World of Sports and such), I find it funny that with this promotion you get a free ticket with just 8 hrs of volunteering...for the volunteering directly with Disney, you have to put in 16 hrs to get a free ticket!

So, I'll likely participate in this new promotion since it will lead to a free ticket sooner! :)

OK. I have to say this and feel free to flame away.....

Disney does not OWE us a promotion. In fact, as I understand it, annual promotions are fairly new, right??

We should be thankful and greatful that there is one offered. Especially one that helps out our own communities!!

This "The prize is not good enough for me" attitude is pretty shameful. Disney is promoting something that helps all of our communities out and in the end, gives us each a small reward and people are complaining that the reward is not good enough?!?!?! That is disgusting.

Thumbs up to Disney!! We will be volunteering as a family and will likely donate the ticket.

WWYC and the birthday admission was not a big deal to us, we cannot go during any of our 3 Birthdays due to work schedules. I did not feel Disney "owed" me something as a result.

I am very disappointed in the reaction of some people.

Why is that so funny? :confused3

Eight hours of my time is worth way more than $80.

Now, on the other hand, I would gladly buy someone a one day pass if they would do 8 hours of work for me! My yard needs a good mowing and I have a few truckloads of mulch that needs to be spread around. Any takers?

You obviously don't understand the definition of volunteering. Volunteering is donating your time without expectation of monetary compensation. Eight hours of my time is also worth more than $80. That's not the point. All communities need volunteers and many non profit agencies do not have money to pay staff for the excellent work that they do. My son had volunteered at a cat shelter this past summer. He did not complain that his time was worth more. In fact, he would have volunteered even more hours if he was able to. Now, if Disney were to reward him for his efforts, I think that's wonderful. It's not something he would have expected, but it is very generous on the part of Disney.

this is a perfect promotion for my situation. WE live in south florida are AP holders and have family who would love to come up for a day but absolutly cant afford it now we can all go volunteer one day as a family and have a nice family day trip to WDW with them getting in free and me getting us a FP option :)
I think alot of area church groups could also make out really well with this promotion!
