Neverland afternoon activities at the Poly?

Has anyone's children participated in the free activities from 12-4 daily at the Poly? I just wondered if they were worth doing. TIA!

I saw another poster answer this, don't know if you could do a search, but I think its a few arts and crafts type things, like make a bracelet and I think they might have the movies playing, not sure, you must accompany your child. I just asked another poster the exact times of the pool games and the arcade challenge, our ds are older and more interested in that, but hope someone can help you. You will love the poly.

We stopped in one afternoon. My boys just wanted to see the place. It is really cute inside. The boys played with all the disney hats and they had video games and movies playing.

We spent a few hours at the Neverland Club at the Poly one rainy afternoon in June.

The boys loved the video games, and my DD played at the arts and crafts table.

They have a disney video playing on a large screen tv. A cast member is there to answer any questions you might have regarding the child care program.

A great place to take a break!

I think the OP may be (?) confusing two different things at the Poly. The Neverland Club is the childcare place that is open in the evenings only for babysitting. It is "open" during the day for parents and children to come in together as a family and use, and there is a staff member present to show you around, answer questions, etc. But there are no scheduled activities in the Neverland Club during the day. We do stop in and play sometimes during the day with dd, but she says it's not as fun without other kids there. LOL Stopping in during the day is a good way to see if your kids will like the place and not be scared of it later in the evening when you drop them off.

The free childrens activities the OP heard about are in the GCH-the Grand Ceremonial House on the first floor. I was never too impressed with it, TBH, the lady who runs it has never seemed particularly "warm" to us, and the activities only last a very short time (each one that is). It's not something you could leave your kid at for 4 hours or anything. It seems to me to be just something to keep them entertained while parents are busy checking in, etc.

If you are there, and have the time I would check them out, but I wouldn't make a point of it or arrange my schedule to accommodate it or anything.

The best one (IMO) was the hula lesson.

There are other activities through out the day at different locations other than the lady in the lobby. She just does the dancing. There are also games at the beach, in the pool and they set up tables in the GCH in different locations with crafts and things going on at different times. You would have to check with the front desk when you are there to see what will be going on.

We were at the Polynesian about 3 weeks ago now and according to the "Island Palm Press" there were:

"Arts and Crafts and Disney Movies in the Neverland Club" from 12-4 every day of the week.

"Arts and Crafts in the Great Ceremonial House"...offered every day from 12-2.

The Arcade Challenge was at 3 on Sun, W And F.

Pool games at 3 on M,T, TH and Sat.


As always, follow Tikiman's advice. Check the schedule when you get there. The activities are always listed in the IPP.

It's nice to be able to have a place to go that is away from the room, and Neverland Club is very kid-friendly.

For instance, if your 18-month old falls asleep in the stroller and refuses to take another nap when you get back to the room, you can leave your wife and older children in peace.

It has air conditioning (and heat for you winter travelers). The arcade-style video games don't really work, but they do have Nintendo. There was always a movie playing in the mini-theater area. You can do all of the arts and crafts projects you like. You can play with the dress-up clothes, legos, toys, etc.

Chances are you will have the place to yourself. And any kids can go as long as the parent is with them.

If your kids need stimulation, there is plenty to do. If your kids can play or their own or with their siblings, you can take a book to read.

Great information! As suggested I will check at the front desk to see what is going on. I basically wanted to spend some time at the resort other than the pool. My kids LOVE crafts so when I read that they offered activities daily from 12-4, I was excited. Thanks for all the replies.

The impression I was given at the Neverland club was that those things were available--we could have done arts and crafts--the area is fully stocked, but noone was going to direct it, or help us or anything. However, this may have changed, it has been a few months since we were there, and Disney changes things all the time! There was a movie playing too, but I wouldn't exactly call that a scheduled kids activity, you know? It seemed to be a place where you could go hang out with your kid and use the facility, that's all.

I have seen the lady at the GCH do more than dancing--wait, maybe not much more, but just different kinds of dancing--hula, dancing with these weird balls on strings, singing, and the kids can color, etc in the kid area where she is--I think I saw her doing some kind of craft one time, but I could be mistaken.

It sounds like there were some other things we didn't see going on, but then, we are never around the resort that time of day. Has anyone seen the pool or beach area activities?

I have all the activities on tape from when I walked the resort and filmed all the longhouses. They were doing some games in the pool, they were doing relay races at the beach with some balls and other toys and later they did volleyball. There was also a big craft table set up at the window at the back of the GCH like the photo below and another table out at the pool near the wet play area where they were making something (I think hats).

In the afternoons, children, accompanied by their parents , may visit the Neverland Club to play. At 4 pm, it becomes a paid Kids Club for kids only.

If you are looking for activities for children where you can go off and do other activities, try The Wonderland Tea Party, Adventures in Cooking, or the Pirate Cruise at the Grand Floridian, or the new Treasure cruise at the Yacht Club (this is only offered once a week, I believe on Wednesdays). At night you can book time for them at the Neverland Club at the Polynesian, the Sandcastle Club at the Beach Club, the Mickey Mouse Club at the Grand Floridian, The Cubs Den at the Wilderness Lodge or Simba's Lair at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I have heard that there is child care at the Dolphin as well, but it isn't Disney operated.
