We are headed to the OKW for two weeks in Jan.

(Side note: DH was only non-family partner in fanily business, and the 3 brothers want him out so they can do what they want with the business. We are unemployed living on severance as of tomorrow afternoon. We own DVC, and are using our points to stay at OKW to spend the time in Florida looking for a job in the Southeast, talking to recruiters, etc. As my dad would say, "Why pay for your vacation time when you don't even know if you are going to have a job to take vacations. Do what you have to do and use your points for work instead of play".) (P.S. Anyone hiring? Anyone want to buy a house in Northern Michigan? hehehehe)

ANYWAY....we have never stayed at OKW before. Need any and all tips you can provide. When making room requests, what should we be asking for? What view? What buildings? I can only hope they don't have a dumpster view, we will be sure to get it if they do!

All your help and tips are greatly appreciated!!! THanks bunches!!

OKW has no dumpster view- so you're safe there. Views are water, golf and woods. Some have 2 views.

Here is some <a href="http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1251562#post1251562">OKW information</a> that may help.

Have a great trip!!

It is a nice place. Only drawback is limited transporation, basically buses everywhere. Not a problem, just less convenient than some. We usually drive to the parks (free parking) when we have a car

Bear in mind that if you drive to MK or Epcot, it will likely take you longer than taking the buses. Animal Kingdom is better to drive to. We find the buses to be very convenient and the past few trips have been virtually no waits for the buses. In 8 years of staying at OKW multiple times a year, we have never had a bad view. That isn't to say that some aren't better than others, but there are no bad ones.

Our experiences have been much the same as Diane's. We have never had a bad view from any room, though we do prefer the golf course. It's a lot of fun to watch the golfers in the morning. As for transportation, the busses have always been right on for whereever we have been going, though we also drive to AK. It just seems easier to get to that way. Enjoy the resort and have a great time! And the very best of luck with the job hunting, hope you find something really great.

Thanks AGAIN Doc!

And everyone else, thanks too!

Accepting all and any advice! Keep it comin'!

What size unit are you staying in? Where have you stayed in the past?

Well, we prefer to be a little "away" from the activity, so we like the Southpoint or Turtle Pond areas. We recently stayed in Building 55 or 56 in the Southpoint area, and it was nice because we were close to a bus top and the quiet pool. Also close to the walkway that goes to DD. Far away from the Hospitality House and Conch Flats(main area with main pool, gift shop, restaurant etc.), but as I said, we like to be a tad off the beaten path.

View wise, there are really no terrible views at OKW. Lots of woodsy views, some golf course and caal views. I can't think of anywhere were you'd get the equivalent of a dumpster view.

I would bus to the MK, car to AK. Usually what we do is car to the BW, valet park for free, do the stuff we want to do on the Boardwalk(which always includes wings at ESPN!!!!) and then go to MGM via boat from the BW, or walk into Epcot through the International Gateway.

Good luck in your job hunt. Can your trip in any way be written off since it is for employment purposes?????

Sorry...should have told you the first time.

We are staying in a studio.
