NEVER AGAIN! A holiday family vacation report...

Great update. I can't believe your dad didn't want to see FOTLK. It is my favorite show. Keep the updates coming.

My dad's not a live show person... and neither are DH & I, really... we've actually never seen FOTLK either! :scared1: It's on the agenda for March, though.

I'm hoping to get another update done tomorrow.

I'll get back to the Christmas TR shortly, but...

OUR WAITLIST CAME THROUGH FOR THE SPRING BREAK TRIP!!!!! We'll now be spending our whole spring break week at Beach Club Villas... within walking distance of our favorite park!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and another exciting March update... AirTran changed our flight times, and we'll now be arriving in Orlando THREE HOURS EARLIER than we expected! :woohoo:

OK, I'm gonna get to work on the next trip update, I have to make sure this report is done before I leave for the next one! :)

Day 3, Afternoon/evening (I didn't get any photos of this part of the day, and apparently MIL didn't either... sorry!)

After returning from Animal Kingdom and warming up for a while, we began to think about our evening plans. We had dinner reservations at Boma tonight – this was MIL’s pick. (Actually, her pick was Jiko, but we talked her in to Boma to save money. :rotfl: ) We knew we’d need to go somewhere to catch an AK bus, so we decided to head over to DTD for some souvenir shopping, and then catch an AK bus from there. Even though it was still chilly, we also opted to take the boat to DTD (which was a much quicker boat ride than I remembered). We headed out around 4:30, without my dad.

Dad is not a very adventurous eater, and he was quite worried that he wouldn’t find anything he liked at Boma, even though it’s buffet. Since DH & I had never been there before, we weren’t able to reassure him, so he opted to stay home. :sad2: (We found out later that he took the bus to DTD and got a sandwich at Earl of Sandwich for dinner :thumbsup2).

We spent about 1.5 hours at DTD. I believe this was when we did the bulk of our souvenir shopping. My mom bought herself a cute hoodie, and bought a t-shirt for DH. She was also going to buy me a hoodie, but I decided to wait to see if I could find anything else I liked better the next day. This decision may or may not come back to haunt me. I did, however, find the Disney cat treats again… we’d been told in July that they weren’t making them anymore… so I picked some up for our kittens. I believe MIL got some stuff too (I remember DH coming to get his AP from me so she could get the AP discount) but I’m not entirely sure what she bought. I believe we also stopped in the Christmas store on the way to the bus stop, where MIL bought us some Christmas ornaments to remember the trip by.

We arrived at the Marketplace bus stop around 6:15pm – our ressies were at 7:00. We must have just missed a bus, because we waited 30 minutes for the bus to arrive. But... this was one of the only long bus waits we had all week. I tweeted that I was worried about making the ressie on time, but we made it.

MIL & mom were amazed by AKL, and wanted to wander around taking photos, but we had a ressie to make! DH corralled them, and we headed straight down to Boma to check in, got our buzzer, and were seated within 5 minutes. We LOVED  Boma, and will definitely go back (although probably not on the next trip). Even BIL, who’s also a pretty picky eater, found quite a few things that he enjoyed, and he made several trips to the buffet. :woohoo:

After dinner, I explored the gift shop at AKL while MIL explored the lodge a bit. BIL was still not feeling well, so we decided fairly quickly to head back “home.” We had the best experience with a Disney bus driver on our trip home! We were waiting at the DTD stop @ AKL when a bus pulled in without his signs on. The driver told us that dispatch hadn’t given him another destination yet, and he didn’t want to load us on the bus with the ECV, only to find out he was going somewhere else. We understood, and he pulled out of the bus stop. Apparently, after he pulled out of the Jambo house stop, he got word that he was going back to DTD, so after picking up guests at Kidani Village, he came back to get us! We were surprised and really impressed! :yay: :yay: :yay:

We were back at DTD quickly, and were debating whether to wait on a SSR bus or just take the walking path, when a SSR bus pulled up! We’d probably been at the bus stop for less than 5 minutes at that point. So, we hopped on the bus and were home quickly.

Tomorrow we’re headed to…… wait, I don’t want to tell you that yet! So, where do you think we’re going tomorrow? And how many members of our group are going to make it to rope drop? (and don't worry, there are LOTS of pictures for the next installment!)

popcorn::I went to WDW with my sister and her family. It's hard to do. We survived because of each other. Along for the ride.:surfweb:

I'm glad you enjoyed Boma. It has something for everyone and I'll bet your dad would have liked it too! The lobby at Jambo is impressive isn't it? Too bad BIL was pulling a Keeley and you didn't have much time to explore after dinner....
Can't wait to find out who and were you end up next!

Glad you all liked Boma. We went there in August and I liked it. Don't think I am going back next trip but will. Loved the resort.

In 2008, we went with 8 other people :scared1::scared1:. Never again-- the variety of ages was too great.

Darn... I guessed wrong!

I feel a little sorry for your Dad... he missed out on the magnificent AKL lobby! He probably would have liked Boma and if not, he could've grabbed something at the Mara. Oh well, perhaps he just needed some alone time... we all do!

Oh, and congrats on the three extra Disney hours!! :yay: Don't you just love when that happens?

I think dinner sounds great! and is sounds like your pop getting some down/alone time, that makes him Smart in my book:rotfl2:

Joining in! We've vacationed successfully with DH's parents, unsuccessfully with my parents, but never all at the same time!

Great update. We always have to go to the Christmas Shoppe at DTD to get Christmas ornaments. And when they are on the tree, I can tell you when I bought each ornament!! ;)

I tried Boma in 2008 and I am a very picky eater. I loved the curry pasta salad and the meats. Other than that, I mainly ate from the children's buffet area. The desserts are amazing. We plan to eat there this year!!

Can't wait to read more!!

Glad you enjoyed Boma. :thumbsup2 We ate there last May, after I'd wanted to go there for several years. I have three very picky kids when it comes to food, but they managed to eat plenty. The children's section of the buffet was actually very good....I snuck over there a few times, myself! ;)

Glad to have you along! I agree, traveling with family is hard!

I'm sure my dad would have liked Boma if he'd gone with us... I hope to get the next update done in the next day or two... my students are testing for the next 2 days, so I should have time to work on it from work. ;)

Boma was definitely good, and we  AKL!

In 2008, we went with 8 other people :scared1::scared1:. Never again-- the variety of ages was too great.

Originally, we were supposed to have FIVE other people along on this trip as well! :scared1: By the end of the week, I was SO happy they decided to stay home. :lmao:

Okay, I'm all caught up. Really enjoying your trip report. Can't wait to read what's up next!

Glad you're enjoying it!

Wait til you hear what else Dad missed out on! Although, in fairness to my dad, he retired about 5 years ago and has pretty much been a couch potato ever since.... Disney was rough on him! :rotfl:

Dinner was good! Dad said he was tired, but it's quite possible he needed the break from everyone. ;)

If we ever take the parents again, it'll be with just one set at a time! Glad to have you along. :)

We have an ornament from there that we bought on our honeymoon, and the ones that MIL bought us. We've never gotten any others, but that's a good idea... maybe we'll start a new tradition this trip!

Oh, I'm sure dad would have really enjoyed Boma, but oh well. Next time we take him (if there is a next time :rotfl: ), I'll make another ressie there and just won't tell him where we're going until we get there. ;)

Day 4, morning (I've cheated here, and posted a few pictures from previous trips as well, where they add to my narrative :) )

For the third day in a row, we were at the bus stop just before 7am. But, we weren’t going to make it to a park before opening – it was EMH morning at Magic Kingdom, and it was time to go see the castle!

IMG_2432.jpg

DH & I were the first to arrive at the bus stop. For the first two days, my parents had gotten out there before us, so I called them to see where they were. As it turns out, they had “accidentally” turned off the alarm, and had decided to sleep in. :sad2: Mom said she’d call us if she decided to come to the park later in the day. As I was hanging up the phone, we saw MIL walking towards us… alone. BIL was still not feeling well, and had also decided to sleep in & was to call us later in the day. So, it was just going to be the three of us for MK morning...

022.jpg

We were in the MK by 7:30, and headed straight to Space Mountain. The standby time was posted at 10 minutes, and the FP return was already 11am! :scared1: I grabbed FPs for the three of us, and then we jumped in the standby line. The wait time was actually closer to 20 minutes, but that’s not too bad for the busiest week of the year. ;) We enjoyed the ride, but I didn’t notice any major differences from the refurb… it had been over a year since I’d ridden it last, however, LOL.

After Space Mountain, we headed to Buzz Lightyear, where the wait time was posted at 5 minutes. In reality, it was a walk-on.

I scored 28000 points (I know this because I sent it as a tweet… not sure why, as it’s not really a score that I’m proud of, LOL). After saving the universe, we headed back towards Fantasyland, since I knew it would get crowded quickly. On the way, we passed Chip & Dale, and had to stop for this picture:

In Fantasyland, we rode the teacups and then saw PhilharMagic, both with no wait at all. I think PhilharMagic might be my favorite 3D attraction at WDW. And afterwards, we decided to go visit my favorite “haunt”…

We enjoyed the tour of the mansion, but ultimately decided we weren’t ready to make it our permanent home.

Next up… Frontierland and the other two mountains!

It was still chilly this morning, so we grabbed FPs for Splash to use later in the day, and headed to the standby line at BTMRR. At Splash, however, I had a strange run-in with a CM. At the FP machines, there was a CM who was telling everyone that the FP would only be honored during its 1-hour window. Now, I know from past trips, and from here, and from TGM, that this is simply not the case. I assumed he was just saying it to try to keep people from doing what we planned to do, which could cause the FP line to get excessively long later in the day. I asked him if it was a new policy, just to see, and he was very rude as he explained that, not only had that always been official policy, but that CMs who didn’t check that were idiots and shouldn’t be allowed to keep their jobs. :scared1: :scared1: Thank goodness he was the only rude CM we encountered on the whole trip, and I was the only one (of our group, anyway), who heard what he said.

Anyway, back to Big Thunder. The wait time was posted at 10 minutes (it was 9am), but I was concerned that it might be longer due to where the end of the line was. Thankfully, they hadn’t opened up much of the inside line at all, and the wait really was only 10 minutes!

(the castle from BTMRR)

I really like BTMRR – it’s one of my favorite mountains! ;) As we were getting off the ride, my mom called – she had just gotten off the bus at MK and was heading to meet us. I told her to meet us at Main Street Bakery, and we headed back in that direction. We had breakfast (after a LONG wait in a LONG line), and then headed to ride Jungle Cruise & Pirates – the last two things on our must-do list for the morning.

We went to Jungle Cruise first, where the wait time was posted at 60 minutes. We couldn’t get another FP yet, and we didn’t want to wait that long. While we were talking about what to do, DH went to ask a CM where the handicapped-accessible line was… and as it turns out, you enter through the exit and then join the FP line right near where you board the boat! :woohoo: So, we went ahead and rode – total wait time was under 10 minutes! Our skipper wasn’t the best, but it was still an enjoyable voyage through 3 of the largest rivers in the world.

Between Jungle Cruise and Pirates, MIL heard from BIL, who told us he was on his way. We got in line for Pirates (posted wait – 25 minutes @ 10:30am), where we were somewhat entertained by a group of very stereotypical New York/New Jersey Italians. The actual wait was less than 20 minutes, so soon we were enjoying a visit with everyone’s favorite pirate.

After exiting Pirates, MIL called BIL again to see where he was… and he was eating lunch at El Pirato y El Perico (or whatever the taco place right across from Pirates is called), so we went over there to find him. He finished eating, and we talked about what to do next. We decided to go use the FPs for Splash, since it had warmed up a bit. There was a bit of debate about who would ride with us since we only had 3 FPs, but ultimately MIL decided to join us. We kept telling her she wouldn’t get that wet… and on the big hill, she got drenched! Oops… We waited about 15 minutes in the FP return line.

At Splash, we saw a woman throw a fit, only to be rewarded for her irrational behavior with those instant FPs that work for the rest of the day and a bunch of Splash merch for her family. At first, we thought her complaint was sort of justified, but we realized very quickly that she was the one in the wrong/her complaint was her own fault, and yet a nice manager was giving her all kinds of stuff to shut her up. Makes me wish I hadn’t been raised with good morals, I could get all kinds of stuff for free. ;)

At this point, I was approaching my limit of family time, so we decided that we’d take the monorail to the Grand Floridian to look at the gingerbread house. On the way out, we decided to use our Space Mountain FPs. Since we only had 3, I gave mine to BIL, and my mom & I headed over to see what the wait time was at Buzz. It was about 12:45pm, and the wait at Buzz was just over an hour… and before we could figure out what to do, DH, MIL, and BIL rejoined us because Space Mountain was down. Oh, also, at this point we overheard some CMs saying that MK was already at capacity for the day! So, we just headed out to the monorail, and within a few minutes we were at the GF!

IMG_2440.jpg

We didn’t stay long, just long enough to take some pictures and buy some gingerbread...

IMG_2447.jpg

IMG_2451.jpg

... and then we headed back out to the monorail station. At some point today, we’d been telling MIL about some of the shops at EPCOT, so she and BIL decided to take the monorail over there to explore a bit.

IMG_2441.jpg

I was tempted to go along, but decided it would be bad for my sanity, so mom, DH, and I headed back to SSR at about 2:00. Mom went to take a nap, and DH & I decided we were hungry.

Where did we go for our late lunch? And what would we do with the rest of our day? It’s still early, after all…

That statement cracks me up!! :rotfl2:
Great update. We stayed at the GF Dec 07 and I :love:it!! And the smell is :cloud9:!

Glad to hear you have not knocked anyone out yet:rotfl: And glad you got away from the family for some lunch!!

PS- I am really enjoying your report!
