Thanks for posting this thread.
I just went and looked at our Netflix account and was shocked that our plan (which is currently 2 dvd's at a time and unlimited streaming) would be going up $5 per month.
We don't stream movies. And the plan that they've sunk us into beginning in Sept. is one that they assigned to me based on our current plan which is apparently, no longer going to be available.
I switched our plan to just unlimited dvd's with 2 out at a time and I ended up saving us money.
So thanks for posting this. I got no e-mail from Netflix with any announcement.![]()
I'm really surprised at the amount of people willing to get rid of the DVD option and just stream.
I think their streaming is a joke to be honest. None of the premium cable shows are streamed (Six Feet Under, Rome, True Blood, Spartacus, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos). Very few of the hit cable television shows (Breaking Bad, Mad Men, White Colar, Leverage) are streamed.
The new release movies are NOT streamed. And many of the classic superstar movies like The Godfather are not streamed.
That along with other movies not being streamed is why I wouldn't drop DVD. It's great if you find what you want streamed...must of the time, you don't find a specific title you want streamed (although Lost is an exception!).
I guess I'll be dropping the DVD option, and go with streaming only....I've been thinking about doing that anyway.
Netflix has been pretty open about their long term plans to move away from their DVD business and enhance their streaming business. The problem - they have to pay more for the rights to stream movies, so their inventory is horrible. IMO, they are stuck in the middle right now. They have a solid business plan, which leverages high speed internet connection in the homes of most of their customers and eliminates shipping costs. Their problem - they do not have sufficient capital to increase their streaming inventory. Not sure if they will even survive if they don't figure this out soon.
