For unlimited streaming and one DVD by mail.

Starting September 1.
You can get streaming only for $7.99 or DVD only for $7.99.(1 at a time)

If you want both it will run you $15.98

It was $9.99 for both. :sad1:

I guess I'll be dropping the DVD option, and go with streaming only....I've been thinking about doing that anyway.

Thanks for posting this thread.

I just went and looked at our Netflix account and was shocked that our plan (which is currently 2 dvd's at a time and unlimited streaming) would be going up $5 per month.

We don't stream movies. And the plan that they've sunk us into beginning in Sept. is one that they assigned to me based on our current plan which is apparently, no longer going to be available.

I switched our plan to just unlimited dvd's with 2 out at a time and I ended up saving us money.

So thanks for posting this. I got no e-mail from Netflix with any announcement. :confused3

No problem.

I did get an e-mail and in short it just said that there was no need to take action :rotfl: they would just bill you more when the time comes. :rolleyes1

Grrrrrrrr.

I think I'm going to seriously consider instant only, or going from 2 DVDs at a time to 1 at a time.

I just dropped Netflix last night and switched to Blockbuster By Mail. Didn't know about this at that time though.

If I still had Netflix one out at a time (with Blu-ray, $2 extra a month) and sales tax (Michigan) it would be $19.06. What a joke, and with the 28 day holding time for most newer stuff. Not worth it.

TWO out at a time with Blockbuster By Mail is only costing me $14.86.

I got the email also. :headache:

We have streaming, but many times it's really hard for us to find something that we like to watch via streaming. I guess we'll go to DVD's only, but it really stinks. I'm not going to $16.00 a month...it's not worth it for us.

I'm also going to look into Blockbuster. Competition is a good thing!

i didn't receive an e-mail from netflix, but after reading this, i signed into my account and it says on my account page that my plan (unlimited streaming + 2 dvds at a time) will go from $14.99 to $19.98 on september 13, 2011 (my billing date).

they just raised prices 3-4 months ago, and i downgraded my plan then. looks like i'll be canceling netflix.

I'm really surprised at the amount of people willing to get rid of the DVD option and just stream.

I think their streaming is a joke to be honest. None of the premium cable shows are streamed (Six Feet Under, Rome, True Blood, Spartacus, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos). Very few of the hit cable television shows (Breaking Bad, Mad Men, White Colar, Leverage) are streamed.

The new release movies are NOT streamed. And many of the classic superstar movies like The Godfather are not streamed.

That along with other movies not being streamed is why I wouldn't drop DVD. It's great if you find what you want streamed...must of the time, you don't find a specific title you want streamed (although Lost is an exception!:thumbsup2).

Definitely not happy about this. Still debating what to do, drop the DVD or go to streaming. Their streaming selection is hit or miss for me. The alternatives are even less appealing (not a Hulu fan, Blockbuster isn't a viable option in my area and the library doesn't carry DVDs).

Yeah, we're probably going to drop streaming and keep the DVD option. At least everything streaming is available on DVD and we can add an extra disc for less than the streaming + mail option.

Netflix has been pretty open about their long term plans to move away from their DVD business and enhance their streaming business. The problem - they have to pay more for the rights to stream movies, so their inventory is horrible. IMO, they are stuck in the middle right now. They have a solid business plan, which leverages high speed internet connection in the homes of most of their customers and eliminates shipping costs. Their problem - they do not have sufficient capital to increase their streaming inventory. Not sure if they will even survive if they don't figure this out soon.

Same here. No one seems to be in any hurry to watch the DVD's that we get in the mail-we have had this current one for 2 months now. I just deleted everything in our queue and will mail this one back tomorrow and then switch to streaming only. The kids mostly watched streamed movies and TV shows anyway. We certainly get our money's worth out of those.

We used to pay a total of $19.01 for 3 DVD's out at a time and unlimited streaming. Then I put my account on hold for December, January and February. When it went off hold, the price went up and I think we are now paying about $2-$3 more. I never got an e-mail about it going up when I took it off hold, and so far I've not received the current e-mail saying it's going up again.

Does anyone know how many times per year you can put your account on hold? I should have put ours on hold for the summer as we just haven't been watching many movies at all. :(

Thank you for the update! I didn't know of this change, so it was good to go into our account to see the $5 extra charge coming in Sept.

We have the 2 at a time with unlimited and I think we'll keep that. We usually go up to 4 during the winter months, but I don't think we'll do that this year.

In the future if they raise prices like this again and don't improve their streaming, we may go down to one dvd at a time or quit Netflix altogether.

I got the same email. That is a large price increase! We are on the 1 dvd at a time/unlimited with streaming plan and will likely stay on it even with the price increase.... Going from $10 to $16 is a big jump! My kids use the streaming a good bit, and I enjoy getting the dvd for things that can't be streamed... Most likely I will do as they said in the email- nothing and just let them start deducting more money from my account....

They just went up not too long ago. I had three at a time and went down to two because i have two ques, one with movie and one with tv series. I think i might go down to one and just do movies. I do use streaming alot so i get my moneys worth from that. I have been a member since 2001 and would be really dissapointed it they keep going uo this often and would have to cancel

Agreed, I read an article that the studios were planning to charge Netflix about 10x the amount they currently charge for streaming movies...Netflix really has no choice I don't think.

I stream 99% of my netflix stuff anyway, so I'll just get rid of the DVD option and use other services for that

I'm debating whether to keep ours as is (2 dvds out + streaming) or go down to 1 dvd out + streaming. We definitely want to keep both options. we always have tons of stuff on our streaming queue (we actually have more on it than our dvd queue). And we love having 2 dvds out at a time, since it cuts down on lag time in between receiving dvds, but I'm just not sure I want to pay $20 for it. At least I've got a month to decide since it told me it wouldn't increase until our september bill. I love the dvd option and the 28 day wait time hasn't had any effect on us at all. If I wasn't in any hurry to see it at the cinema, I'm not in some big hurry to see it on DVD either.
