Netflix basic plan just went up to $15.98

That's quite a dramatic price increase - over 50%! We too have the 1disc + streaming, but I don't know that we'll keep Netflix at all the way the prices have gone up in the past year.

I'm dropping Netflix completely. I was paying $18 for 2 DVD/BluRay and live streaming. I've been with them for 3 years and this is one price increase I will not support. The DVD plan is not worth it considering. I have to wait weeks to get new releases. The live streaming SUCKS constant rebuffing, and taking forever to get the service back. I've called, they tell me that my internet is not accurate, but everything else works perfectly to our Wi-Fi connection. I discovered Hulu Plus on my my blu-ray last week and the shows and quality is superb at only $7.99 a month. So, I will watch the last two DVD's Netflix is sending us. "Hall Pass" and "No Strings Attached" and I will be cancelling the account. I'm done.

I wonder if my DH knows about the price increase, not that it'll change much for us anyways. We do the one DVD + unlimited streaming per month, we have no problems with the streaming and don't mind waiting for a single DVD (it's usually something we're not in a hurry to watch anyways). Plus we don't have cable or satellite TV so we're still coming out way ahead.

We'll go to streaming only.. we use it all the time its on right now.. but we aren't big movie people waiting a few months to see a movie is not very important to us... we'll just get them at redbox if there is something we want to watch that isn't on streaming yet.

The problem is half the movies I want to see say "DVD Only". However of course my son streams everything. UGH:confused3

I just checked the website, and there are 5,000 comments about their rate change and they're not allowing any more comments. Nice. I don't appreciate two rate increases in 7 months.

Ugh...I didn't get this email. We will drop it all together. That's a big increase. I'd rather just do Redbox when we want a movie.

This price increase just might be the catalyst for us to drop our DISH network and go with our local phone/cable/internet bundle. We had been thinking about it, but the Netflix increase will probably make the decision easier. We used Netflix for t.v. series' on channels we don't get. We have the very basic DISH package.

That's quite a hike since they raised it from $7.99 to $9.99 at the beginning of this year.

Not sure what we'll do. We don't stream that much.

I'm going to get Hulu Plus when I get out of the house. EVERY SINGLE EPISODE of Saturday Night Live. :D

We have the 2 dvd + streaming plan. I guess it will be almost $20 per month but we do use netflix streaming every single day and we average 2-3 dvds a week so for us it is still a good value.

and just wait till cable companies start having cut off points or charge more for "excessive" internet usage.

I dropped Netflix completely last week. We didn't use it enough to justify the cost. We'll use Redbox or pay per view in the future.

Just like anything that comes out...at first people love it and it's a GREAT deal...then the more popular it gets, the more they jack up the price and things start to suck. I'm sure Hulu Plus will start jacking up the price and limiting features sometime in the future, too. It's just the way it is. Nothing good ever stays good.

Yeah, we're probably going to drop streaming and keep the DVD option. At least everything streaming is available on DVD and we can add an extra disc for less than the streaming + mail option.

Very great point! I think you just finalized my decision for me! :thumbsup2

Personally I think they should have to notify me by mail or email of this increase. I hardly ever sign into my account. We stream on the Xbox everyday and have a long DVD queue for 2 at a time so really no need to sign in that often that and I am usually using the touch and signing into netflix for whatever reason lags the iPod. So I'm pretty ticked (but appreciative) that I had to find out on the Disboards.

Comcast is currently 250G which could be used up by a lot of HD streaming.

Well...we'll be saving $2 per month starting in September. We'll be dropping the streaming option.

Not a tough decision...not at all.

I really wonder what Netflix is going to "gain" with this?

Not thrilled about it. Will probably drop streaming since I never find much on it I want to watch. And I rent so few DVDs as it is, I've got no problem waiting for the DVD to arrive in the mail. Not a big TV watcher either.

It will probably end up saving me some money. :)
