nervous about hulk

If you are afraid to ride the coasters, here is an inspirational article by me....

How I Learned to Love Roller Coasters and Stop Worrying About the Beast

by Barry Hom

"Inside Edition" reported that your chances of getting into a fatal roller
coaster accident is 1 in 10 million. Yet, everytime I thought about riding
one, I thought that I would die.

I used to avoid riding roller coasters. I chickened out on Space Mountain.
I avoided Busch Gardens Tampa for years. If I didn't ride the roller
coasters, what else is there to do at Bush Gardens? I did ride Big Thunder
Mountain at the Magic Kingdom and I swore to never to do it again!

That all changed when I visited Islands of Adventure in May 1999. I
initially planned to avoid riding the roller coasters. I really just wanted
to ride one ride -- Spiderman. I passed by the Incredible Hulk Coaster and
I kept on thinking, "I'll save it for later." Finally, I decided to ride
it.

I almost ran away from the entrance, but I thought of what my mom said when
I wouldn't eat lima beans -- "How do you know if you don't like it if you
haven't tried it?" I never ate my lima beans and I still don't like them, but I figured I'd ride it once and if I didn't like it, I'd
ride something else. There are plenty of other things to do at the park!

I entered the queue and I felt my heart pounding, my skin crawling, and my
breath becoming shorter. I finally was strapped in and I was terrified! As
the car rolled into the launch tube, people in the back of the coaster
started yelling, "Whoo!" I began to yell "Whoo!" too and suddenly, my fear
turned into excitement and I was launched out!

I yelled "Whoo!" so much that my voice was harsh after the ride. I don't
remember much of what the track looked like because I kept my eyes closed
(especially during the upside-down parts). At the end of the ride, I said,
"What a rush!"

I had planned to ride the Hulk Coaster zero times, but I ended up riding it
seven times. I finally conquered Space Mountain. I visited Busch Gardens
a few months after visiting IOA and enjoyed the coasters there. I'm
planning to visit the roller coaster mecca, Cedar Point, one day.

Perhaps one day I will have the courage to eat lima beans

thanks for the great story, Barry, and trust me, you are missing absolutely nothing by avoiding lima beans. 11 DAYS TO THE HULK!!!

Hey Barry,
I showed your story to the friend who will be acompanying me to US/IOA , but couldn't convince her to ride the coasters. Guess I'll be riding alone!!

the author said the hulk is better than dueling dragons Bue they are both excellent. (he also says the unofficial crew prefers fire to ice if you don't have time to ride both sides of the dragon) The hulk is only 1 1/2 minutes long and the dueling dragons is 1 min 45 seconds. He also said dragons is one of the first rides you should go on because of the long line it develops.

You will love the Hulk. It is a great roller coaster. Being propelled while you are going up the incline is great. Not as good a start as Rock n Roller coaster, but it is DEFINITELY not worth missing

I think once you turn 40 gravity always wins.

If you got stuck upside down,
your face would freeze that way for the rest of your life. Then they would need to do a "face drop" rather than "lift" :D ;) <IMG WIDTH="15" HEIGHT="15" SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif" alt="razz">

Hulk is great. It is super smooth. I didn't know about the launch, so that suprise element made it that much better.

I too was terrified of coasters and Hulk was my first "big" coaster! Guess what? I love coasters now? I now plan my trips around what coasters I can hit :)
Barry--you have to make it up to Ohio soon to ride Millennium Force--it is the best coaster ever! And now there is Six Flags World of Adventure about an hour from Cedar Point as well!

just returned from us/ioa/sw and hulk would be the perfect 1st looping coaster to ride. For me the first hill is the worst part of the ride. It gives me time to rethink my decision to ride. The launch on hulk avoids that and I agree it is a very smooth ride. Kraken at SW is also vey smooth.

I did Hulk at the age of 39 after not riding coasters for 10 years. The people seated next to me just told me to keep my head back and not to push my head forward. It helped alot. I also recommend sitting in of the two middle seats instead of on the edges the first time. It just helped me feel more secure.

I was fortunate to stay at PBH when there were unlimited times you could ride in a row. I rode it 5 times in a row and only stopped because I had to meet my husband.

I think the Hulk is overrated compared with Duelling Dragons! I am surprised at the number of people who get on a ride without watching it first. It shoots you out of that tunnel, so obviously it must have some kind of quick accelleration to it. I always watch the rides I get on before I go. I'm not scared or nervous, but I like to know what to expect before I get on! Hulk was cool, no doubt about it. But I liked Duelling Dragons better, especially winding through the castle queue.
