Neighbor: Crazy or Justified?

In my neighborhood we have a bunch of roads named the same but the ending is different. Think of Main St., Main Place, Main Rd., Main Ct., and so on. We're all getting incorrect deliveries and moving it where it belongs. Wish the developer would have considered this issue before they named every road in here the same.

We don't have many issues with package delivery. Our problems crop up more with mail delivery due to most of the streets directly around us having houses with the very same house number as we do. We've had things show up in our mailbox at strange times of the day only to open them and discover we received them long after they were sent. We have both delivered things incorrectly delivered to us, put them back in the mailbox for the mail carrier to take, or actually caught the mail carrier on our street and handed off the items that do not belong to us. I'm certain our problem is persistent and larger than it would be if we had a consistent mail carrier assigned to our street and neighborhood.

Wow that’s nuts. My packages tend to get delivered to random houses mostly on the street over from us (Chestnut vs Walnut) We even had a packaged delivered to the previous owners of our house not that long ago (we bought our house 7 years ago) May husband called our realtor and she tracked them down to let them know we had it

Same type of thing happened to me a few years ago. I had ordered a shirt online. It never arrived. I called FedEx and they said it had been delivered. I called the company and they said they would send a replacement. A day later, I get a message from a woman I didn't know. She said, "You delivered a package to my address that does not belong to me. Please pick it up and deliver it to the correct address." Apparently, my number was on the shipping label, but she thought she was calling FedEx. I called her back and said, "I think you have my package? Can I come and pick it up?" She said, "Oh. I thought I was calling FedEx. I want them to pick it up and deliver it to you so I can tell them not to do that anymore. I don't appreciate getting other people's packages, so they need to come and get it." I said, "Well, I would be happy to get it myself." It turned out she lived on the street behind me with a similar house number. I told her I could walk over there in literally two minutes. She grudgingly said I could come and get it.

When I got there, she handed me the package and said, "I really wanted FedEx to have to do this. You need to call and tell them what happened." Yeah, they would probably say, "OK, whatever. Stuff happens." I just took my package and thanked her and went on my way. I also called the company back and cancelled the re-delivery, saying I now had the shirt. I thought the lady had a lot of gall, thinking she was some kind of victim and could now dictate how I was supposed to get my package, and hold onto it until she was satisfied. I could understand her calling FedEx to pick it up if my address was far away, but she knew my house was just around the corner.

Definitely crazy. If her beef was with FedEx, why wouldn't she just call FedEx and tell them to do that rather than involving you? And why wait a month!

Did she actually leave it on her doorstep the day FedEx said they'd come and get it? I guess you could have walked over there and gotten it too, and avoided FedEx all together. Not that you should be expected to, but could have been another option if FedEx wasn't responsive.

Wow! What a nutcase. I'd avoid her if at all possible.

I had an Amazon Prime package delivered to my house by mistake once. Weird thing was, it was supposed to be delivered about a mile away, on a completely different street. Our names were not similar in the slightest. I got in the car, drove the package to the person's house and hand-delivered it to them. They were SO appreciative. It took 5 minutes out of my day. I would hope someone would do the same for me.

OP... what will you do if you ever get a package of hers by mistake?

I don’t get people. We are the same way if we get a package for someone else or mail we either walk it right over or drive if too far.

The neighbor may be more frustrated than crazy. Let me explain. This past holiday season I received well over a dozen packages that were delivered to my address, but meant for others. I didn't know where the other addresses were so I had to call the shipper for each package. I was put on hold, hung up on, told just to keep the package, and was told by Amazon it was my job to find the address and get the package to the rightful party. Um no, not my job. Perhaps this woman has had a similar experience to mine. Maybe she felt if Fed EX had to send someone out to redeliver it would get them to make the delivery to the correct address the first time. But with the correct address right next door... probably a little bit on the odd side. lol

I think your points would have merit..if the woman hadn't confessed to having the package and furthermore not allowing the rightful owner to pick it up. There was nothing more the neighbor had to do but place it on their front steps and the OP could have picked it up. The neighbor didn't have to drive anywhere they just flat out refused. Frustration or not that's totally wrong for someone to do that.

I don't disagree! I just feel there may be more here than meets the eye. :)

Crazy! We had magic bands delivered to a neighbors house. Same numbers different street. When ours came but my sisters didn't, we waited a day or two then called Disney and they over nighted new ones. Neighbor brought them about 2 weeks later embarrassed because her son saw the box and opened them excited about a trip he didn't know they were taking...:rolleyes1

Imagine this happens and the person who gets your package is your sister in law!!! (Nice to have the crazy validation). I had moved away, and I didn't realize a package had old address on on it, so our ( normal) tenants called for UPS pickup. They came and got it, but unbeknownst to me instead of sending it back to the company, decided to deliver to sil a few streets over.. I guess since we have same last name and it is a small town. She went on a tirade about being so put out. Which obviously had nothing to do with the package, since by this time I already had a replacement order and I told her to just throw it out or donate it.

Yeah, people have issues.

I think this lady is totally justified! I can't believe everyone on here calling her crazy! She had every right to do what she did, and you are the one who is being crazy and overly sensitive for thinking what she did was wrong!!!

JUST KIDDING!! I just wanted to be the one person who didn't agree! ;)

Of course she is crazy. I would be really upset that she didn't at least let me know she had the package so that I could make other plans... just not knowing would drive me nuts.

I would probably just drop it off in her mailbox or next to it. I'm not sure I could ever keep something that didn't belong to me. I wouldn't leave it on her doorstep though-I'm kind of irked out at this point to feel comfortable entering her property.

We have a neighborhood like that in our town. There are about 15 streets in a development that all have the word Ridge in the name. And a lot of the roads are u shaped, it's VERY confusing to find someone's house up there. It's a running joke that everyone in town, even people who have lived here their whole lives get lost trying to find their own house.

This is a timely thread. I have a cousin who had a package just this week go to her old address. The current renter won't give it to her. Anxious to find out how she handles it.

That is totally crazy. She made a mountain out of a mole hill. It also bordered on being rude to you when you explained to her that you wanted your kids to get some use out of the Spring Jackets and she didn't care at all.
