Neighbor: Crazy or Justified?

Ok you're neighbor is crazy. BUT Fedex dropped a package off at my house for a house a few streets over and I was on an online chat with them before the driver was even out of my neighborhood telling them that they blew it. I figured they could radio the driver and he'd come back and fix it. Nope, they required that I give them my full address, name, phone number - SIGN up for a fed ex account - which required a credit card number before they could schedule a pick up at my house. No way. It blew my mind that they wouldn't just fix their error, after a stupid amount of time on chat I finally gave up.

Myself not being crazy, at the end of the day I headed over and just gave it to the person who it was supposed to go to - but I shouldn't have had to do that.

I can't imagine myself having that conversation with my neighbor if I were you:rotfl:

She is totally crazy and I wouldn't put it past myself to let her know it.

Looney tunes. What a strange person. Who does that? Who says "no" when you ask for your package back. I get that she wanted to prove a point by calling fedex and making them correct their mistake, but come on. She could call them up or write a letter to complain, but to hold your package hostage? Especially when she told you she had it, but refused to give it to you. It's just so strange.

I can't figure how she thinks this is going to punish fed ex. when it went missing they would have had to pay out on the shipping insurance to the vendor but by virtue of having them pick it up and redeliver it they will get anything they paid to the vendor repaid in full. the only one it punishes is the purchaser.

she be nuts, and if I got a package for her delivered to my house I would immediately call the carrier b/c I don't want to be involved in any of her disputes (any other neighbor I would take it to).

OK, because someone has to, I'll parse this a bit further...

1. Yep, she's way over the top in terms of "that'll teach 'em" delusion. FedEx doesn't give a rat's patootie either way, as long as their paying customer (the shipper) is satisfied, and I guarantee you that they have a satisfactory completion rate in their contract that allows for some misdeliveries.

2. You seem to have a second problem, besides your mad-at-the-Man neighbor. If it is true that she has gotten several deliveries meant for your house, then your house signage is probably somehow misleading, which means that it's likely to happen again. If you need to move or duplicate your house number to make it clearer which house is which, you probably should examine that situation.

Not necessarily. We've had problems getting packages delivered (UPS, FedEx) to our house.

Across the street is a big condo complex. Many times we'd get a note in our mailbox (you figure that out) or an email notification that they couldn't deliver without an Apt #. Ummm.... we live in a house, with big numbers right on the front of the house by the door (readable from the street) as well as big, black, block numbers painted on the curb in front of our house.

I would call them and say "We live in a house, not one of the condos". Several times, they would say, "OK, we'll re-deliver tomorrow". At least 1/2 the time, you guessed it, we'd get another "undeliverable" notice.

I can't tell you how many times I had to drive to their "central" delivery location to pick up my package.

I really don't know what else we can do, short of putting a big neon flashing arrow on our roof with the house number on it...

Bizarre behaviour by your neighbour. Strange, odd, and weird fits as well.

She might have issues but was honest to tell you she had the fed ex package

Assume she did not open it

What a weirdo?? Why would she wait so long and why wouldn't she call FedEx herself?? Glad you finally got your package, though.

We don't know this lady very well. I think she is recently divorced, because we haven't noticed her husband around in over a year. He was always very friendly to us & our kids. We do actually have plans to move in the next two years (not because of her), so hoping for a more positive neighborly experience next time around!
I suggest checking the basement, the backyard, and under the front porch.

Just curious to hear your take on this situation....

Around a month ago, I ordered some Spring jackets from Carters/Oshkosh for my toddlers. The package never arrived, which I thought was bizarre, because we have never not received a package since moving into our home.

Called Fedex and their records state the package was delivered. Called Oshkosh & they offered to resend it, but the jackets were now out of stock in their sizes. Finally, I gave up.

One month later and the lady who lives next door to us is walking her dog while we were out in our yard. She started chatting with us and let me know that she has my package! I was so excited for my kids to get their jackets. I asked her if I could come over and get it and she says.....No-?? She said she was sorry, but she was very angry with Fedex for delivering my package to her house & that they have delivered my packages to her house 2 other times this year. She told me I would need to call Fedex and ask them to come out and pick up the package from her doorstep & deliver it to my house. Mind you, I live right next door to her & she walks by my house every day to walk her dog. I was a bit taken aback, but didn't want to cause a fight with her because nothing good comes out of fighting with your next door neighbor. She asked if there was anything breakable in there and I said no, but explained that my toddler's spring jackets were in there & I would love for them to get some use out of them before spring is over. She didn't seem to care.

I ended up calling Fedex to explain the situation. They said it was the craziest story they've heard. They ended up coming out & picking up the package from my neighbor's front steps....and walking it over to my steps. So, all is resolved now.

What do you think about this-was my neighbor's response justified? I just can't imagine withholding a package from a neighbor.
You've likely heard "See something. Say something"
Well, I'd say something to the Police.
People who do loony things like that tend to become more unstable as time goes on and since she has shown blatant disregard for your children by keeping their coats she may well be a person who would not hesitate to harm little ones.
We live in a World chock full of unstable people who absolutely will not believe that they are the ones who are off kilter.
Sometimes it takes intervention by a Court to force them to get help.

Nuts. I’d stay far away from her, I’d DEFINITELY keep my kids away from her and consider the UPS mailbox thing for packages.

I understand wanting FedEx to know. But I don't understand holding on to the jackets and then insisting that FedEx re-deliver them, 20 feet away.

Once, ages ago, I had a delivery service (I'm thinking USPS?) leave an LL Bean box for us. I shop there a lot. But, this box was clearly a bicycle, which I would have remembered ordering. I knew it was expensive, so I checked the label, and we wound up delivering it to the proper owner. They called LL Bean and complained--don't blame them. But then the next time I saw our delivery person, he said he got in trouble because we delivered the package--we should have called them to do it. I'm sorry the guy got in trouble, but honestly--I just wanted to get the pricey bike where it belonged.
