Negatives of Halloween cruise?

Looking at a 7 night eastern which would be a Halloween on the high seas cruise. We are not fond of the creepy, scary type of Halloween. Being a Disney cruise, I don't expect it would be full of skeletons and blood. I've looked at some YouTube videos and it looks fine. What would be the downsides to the Halloween cruises? I know likely different for everyone, but...your opinion?

Have been on 2 Halloween cruises over the years and am happy to report there were no negatives to be concerned about for your youngsters.
They, and you, will love it!

Bon Voyage.

I'm not a huge fan of Halloween...I enjoy dressing up with my kids, but I'd rather get a root canal than walk into a haunted house.
But we're going on a cruise during October and from what I've read, it will be fun and very kid-friendly.

My tip is if you have a kid, you better bring them a costume, or you will be stuck in the on board store buying one at a premium price. We saw many doing that.

There is one downside for my family on the Fantasy....the huge jack o'lantern decals in the lovely portholes on the 3rd deck. The decals are cute but block the lovely view of the ocean and are up for the duration of the cruise.

Otherwise no downsides for our usual group of adults. The Halloween events are easy to enjoy or avoid depending on your preference.

Zero scariness, zero blood, Disney Halloween events consist of candy and having fun dressed in cool costumes! :)

We usually book our cruises for September/October because of the FLR discounts during the fall, plus September is our anniversary month. A few years ago we had an early September cruise booked and after the fact I found out it was a Halloween on the High Seas. I freaked out because it was for our anniversary and I am not a fan of Halloween. LOL. It was totally fine though!!! They do have some cute decorations and a huge tree in the main hallway that transforms during the cruise, (you can probably find youtube videos on this), but it wasn't scary at all or over the top. They have holiday themed crafts and activities if you want to participate but its not hard to avoid if you are not into that.
The second time we sailed on one of these cruises, my son brought a costume and he got to trick or treat. I believe they provided bags but you can bring your own if you like. They also have a costume contest if you want to participate.
We are cruising again in September, so this will be our 3rd Halloween on the High Seas. Couldn't resist the current FLR rate!!!

Enjoy your cruise!!

The biggest problem with our Halloween cruise was that it was the day after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The Fantasy was late arriving in Port Canaveral -- we were thrilled that she weathered the storm. Passengers were still disembarking when our cruise started boarding hours behind schedule. The crew was exhausted from being up all night, and it was a "topsy turvy" day. We had to change itineraries several times due to damage at the ports we were scheduled to visit.

Compared to that, we didn't care about Halloween decorations. The adult costume contest was impressive -- lots of elaborate Disney outfits.

Absolutely no downsides in my opinion. Our two only cruises have been during October -- loved them both! Some jack-o-lanterns and other decorations but Halloween is not all emcompassing in my opinion. And, the costumes I saw at the deck party were magnificent! Sooo creative and fun.

Oh, those are much nicer, Bobbi. Much more subtle than those on the Fantasy last year. :boat: You can still see the ocean. I hope any decals on the Fantasy this year are more like those!
I hope so too, for you!

Those were exactly like the ones we had on the Dream & Fantasy in 2014:

We loved the Halloween Cruise we went on a few years ago. We will be on another one this October while we cruise to Nova Scotia. Here are some photos's from our Halloween Cruise.

Our only downside was that we cruised on actual Halloween which is one of my daughter's favorite days of the year. She was a bit disappointed that the parties and trick or treating were so crowded. Seeing the characters in different costumes and other activities and decorations were fun though. Seeing other people's creative costumes was also a highlight. There was a family dressed as the characters from Gilligan's Island that were our favorite.
