Negatives of Halloween cruise?

There is one downside for my family on the Fantasy....the huge jack o'lantern decals in the lovely portholes on the 3rd deck. The decals are cute but block the lovely view of the ocean and are up for the duration of the cruise.

Ayep. And they looked like what was posted. And they bugged me. We've managed to accidentally be on two cruises on dream during that time of year. Don't like the window stickers.

Were there a few people dressed in non disney outfits? Did any of them make it to the contest? I'm trying to plan my costume lol
A lot of people were in Disney costumes, but quite a few were in non-Disney costumes too. My daughter and I were a spider and spider web. I didn't go to the costume contest--it is an adult's only costume contest.

I'm not a huge fan of Halloween and we have been on 2 Halloween on the High Seas cruises (5-night to Canada out of NYC). The decorations were really fun and that really is about all you experience unless you are specifically looking for Halloween activities. I don't think you will have any problems.

We wore non-Disney costumes and we did the adult costume contest. We didn't win, but we did make it to what I guess I would consider the "finals." The contest is set up a little strangely. Anyway, there were multiple non-Disney ones, but for the purposes of the contest, the Disney ones were definitely favored by the crowd (it was one of those clap the loudest for these finalists type deals).

Our party definitely wore non Disney costumes, made it to the "final" and actually won in our category. The crowd appreciates originality, humor and the presentation. The best costumes, (and there may be some extraordinary ones), per se may not be the winners. Just go to have fun and make a memory whatever age you are.

I think most people didn't recognize our costumes, which is fine. They were probably better for a comic-con than Halloween. More cosplay, really.

We had an amazing time and there was a CM there that was so excited about an appreciative of our costumes. He really made my day. I saw him again on a subsequent cruise and re-introduced myself and he remembered my family and was super awesome. For me, that was a win. :)

A couple of window decorations last year. I think we were on the wonder.

Its this kind of stuff that kind of bugs me. I am a teenager and hate when mickey comes to me and starts making conversation with me because I don't really care. I have only been on one Halloween cruise and with Disney and Halloween it feels overwhelming when the two are combined. I tend to get up around 2 or 3 in the morning one morning each cruise. Why? I love to walk around on a pretty much empty ship. I like to notice every detail and appreciate them. I just couldn't do it when there are pumpkins and these porthole decorations. Overall, of course, this is a very personal problem and most people don't get up that early to just walk around a empty ship. Im sorry if this comes off as a bratty and spoiled response because its not meant to. I truly appreciate how my parents are able to take us on such good vacations. Overall there are no negatives to halloween cruises. Its just overwhelmed me with all the decor.

While I'm not a fan of the themed cruises, I fail to see how having the stickers on the portholes impedes your view at 2 o'clock in the morning. At that time, all you're going to see is dark, anyway.

While you are true let me clarify. While I get up that early to look at the ship not outside. Outside time is for instance when I might be walking to AP. It's a rather long hallway and I like just sitting in one of the portholes maybe. It's just kind of annoying. I just wanted to clarify, I easily understand where you are coming from!

I can see your point, and I'd prefer to see the ocean rather than the stickers, too. It'd be nice if the stickers were just in every other window (or some such) to allow for that.

One of the most memorable moments of our Halloween cruise on the Magic was a group of one gentleman and four ladies (all in their 60s and 70s) dressed as Hugh Hefner and playboy bunnies! They won the adult costume contest!

I agree that the party in the atrium was so crowded! We were on the upper deck to see better. When it finished, we went to the trick or treating stations and the treats were ALL gone. Loved seeing the characters in their costumes.

I understand just what you mean.

I think that is a great idea.

Only four of us and we were in our '60s and '80s. We had a blast that evening. Our only regret is that we didn't know to dress for dinner that night as many other people did.

Awesome.

And in 2016 (at least the Fantasy)!

The decals were different on our 1016 Fantasy cruise. They were large orange jack o'lanterns which dominated each large porthole in the hall and IIRC even the portholes in Royal Court (or is it Palace? :) ). I found them cute when I first saw them but in the course of the week, really wished they were not there. It was not a big deal and we have another Fantasty cruise booked this Fall but to me it did detract from the elegance of the ship.

They also replace some of the movies (especially the TV ones) with older Halloween movies. The last time we sailed on a Halloween cruise we only had a couple of new movies on demand and a bunch of other Halloween ones - Coraline, Nightmare before Christmas, Hocus Pocus. Corpse Bride. I've seen those films multiple times, I was looking forward to the traditional newish movies on the TV to watch late at night.

I thought it was a great time when we went on our first Halloween cruise a couple of years ago but I do remember that there are so many people in the lobby during the show and trick or treating that it was madness!!
