Needing to vent . . .

I am a supervisor in an office and right now, I have eight clerks under me. One of the clerks I have, I'll call him "Joe", is a great guy, hard worker, and will do anything you ask him too. However, he is slow in what he does.(by slow, I mean speed not smarts) I never thought I would find someone who is as slow or slower the he is . . . Until today. I have a new clerk, who I'll name "Mary" who just started on Jan. 19. Today, I gave her a simple task that requires no training whatsoever which was why she was given this particular task. I had her make copies and put together some training booklets for a batch of trainees coming in on Monday and Tuesday. This should have taken a clerk at the most two hours to complete. She started at 11:30 this morning, minus a 30-minute lunch break shevwas still working on it at 4:45 this afternoon and she is still not done!! I was not happy and let her know about it. I can't wait to tell my boss Monday morning.

Wow. That can really be frustrating. But do yourself a favor and stop the bleeding as soon as possible. If there is another easy project that takes forever, get rid of them right away. Not an easy thing to do, but best for you and the company.

Just out of curiosity, did you give "Mary" a timeline of when you expected the project to be completed? Some people just drag out a project just so they look busy.

Yes I did Jen. I also showed her how I wanted it done so it wouldn't talk all day bit I guess she decided it doing her way was quicker. Boy was she wrong!
