Needed prayers from our DVC friends *Update* by MIL Post # 244

Things are going pretty well. Tammy said DMIL sat up in bed for a few minutes yesterday. She also communicated verbally. They put a cap over the trach hole which allowed her vocal chords to do their thing. She was able to tell Tammy where some important documents were in her house that were needed. But the past few weeks have been a blur to her.

Doctors want to move her to ICU/SD as soon as a bed opens up. Then she will have to go to re-hab. There are 3 facilities that do the type re-hab she needs and they need to wait for space to open at one of those.

Thanks for the update! So glad to hear there is improvement. I will continue praying.

Just wanted to let you know, I have been following your posts. So glad to hear that she is improving. :grouphug: for your family.

I'm glad to hear some good news. Continued prayers for you all.

The nurses sat DMIL in a recliner yesterday. And again today. She was able to help them get herself over into it. She is talking very good now, but gets wore out easily. PT folks came in and felt very good about her strength and feel like she may be able to handle the PT at the hospital, which will allow her to stay put.

Cant remember if I mentioned, they moved her to ICU/SD. Making great strides now. One concern we have that wasnt as much a factor before, her memory seems a bit jaded. Short term especially. Doctors dont seem to be too worried at this point, so we will have to wait and see.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes! I told DMIL she will have to respond to all these posts when she gets better, so stay tuned!

Great news! It took my dad awhile to get his strength back after being in ICU. He also went to a step down facility before he was able to come home. ICU seems to take alot out of people.

Sounds like steps forward, that is great. You and your family are still in our prayers. Yes, your MIL has a lot of catching up to do, we all expect replies!!

Groupie hug for you and your MIL and your family

This is called "sundowners". It occurs when people are in the hospital for some time. Patients do not know when it is day or night and get confused. It is associated with Alzheimer's but many inpatients develop it as well. When patients spend time in the ICU or are connected to noisy medical equipment they may experience a condition called hospital psychosis or sundowners. That is why the doctors are not concerned at this point. Once she gets to the step down unit and to rehab you will see a turn around.

Prayers.....

Sounds like she's making wonderful progress! Thanks for the update, and continued prayers for you all.

I totally agree with Debbie. This also happened with my mil a few years ago. She was so confused/disoriented after a 2 week stay in the hospital after a collapse (complications from cancer). She had almost stopped eating and could barely put 2 sentences together.
We took her in to our home after her discharge and within about 4-5 days she was almost back to her normal self. Her appetite really picked up....doubled.....

I wish the best for your DMIL and hoping for continued improvement ! It'll be baby steps for a little while. Sending you prayers for the strength your family needs right now.

Great news! I am so happy that your DMIL is doing so much better!
