thinking of changing my contract...

first off, we're still in our 15 day period of the date signed....we bought 200 points at SSR....but I've been spendings hours reading these boards / aka "working" :rotfl2: and realize that I truly love the WL especially after our recent trip there....

what I'd like to do ( I think) is change our contract to 160 points at SSR and 50 points at WL...but I have a question...would we still get 50 points from the 2005 UY for WL? and I'm curious, since we are financing thru Disney, should we go for 1 contract or 2 separate ones? advantages? disadvantages?

the more I ponder this, the more I think this may be the way to go....we only travel low season ( the kids are all grown) and we enjoy Sunday to Thursday because it still gives us 3 days to relax before going back to the daily grind .. checking the stats, I see we can book a 1 bedroom ( villa of choice) for 3 or 4 nights once every 2 years.....which would be great for our needs....

has anyone done this? am I right about the points from 2005? my guide is off today and I have to wait until 10am tomorrow - what torture!!!

The current incentive for 2005 pts. are only for SSR.
You will only get 2005 SSR pts.

If you want 50 pts. @ the VWL you will be put on a "wait list" and (assuming you bought SSR) when your UY comes up, and others before you got theirs..then you'll get your 50 pts.
BTW... sold out resorts are now $92. per pt. and rumor has it ...going up by summertime.

If you only travel in "low" season..it might be better to just get the SSR (cheapest mtc fee)contract as you can get the 7th month window @ any of the other resorts.

Points at VWL do cost $92 each. However, they seem to be quite readily available. I think the only "sold-out" DVC resort that does not have ample points available is BCV.

Once I got my guide to admit that the sold-out resorts weren't really sold out, I got an initial contract and two add-ons at VWL without spending a second on a waitlist.

We did a 60 point VWL add on last week. My guide indicated they had about 1000 points in inventory. We have an August Use Year and received 2005 points

Why would you want to to the split contract....I guess I don't really understand the point of multiple contracts unless you have ample points in each to book a quantity of days. 160 at SSR and 50 at VWL, which are available w/05 pts, The 50 points doesn't give you much of an advantage in the 11 month window. Correct me if I'm wrong people but to book a Sun - Thur at any resort at the 11 month window you need to have all those points at that resort. So in a multiple contract you could book 50 points at the 11 month window and the rest at the 7 month if there is availability?? So please, why do people own multiple contracts. I need to know just in case they start selling the Polynesian Villas.. :) ......

I totally understand your point here - quite valid BUT the problem is I read too much! seriously, I see that lots of people have 1 large set of points and 1 or more smaller ones. I guess I'm just worried that somewhere down the road, it might be harder to get into the smaller resorts...and I love WL..this is why I don't want alot of points, just enough to get my "fix" once every 2 years while I visit my home resort on a yearly basis.... I love the incentives that came with SSR so I'm not willing to give that up and go totally WL but I figure 50 points will not break the bank and may give me more options if needed...

but I do thank you for your thoughts.. just like DVC is not for everyone, what and how we purchase also varies...and variety is the spice of life! :teeth:

You cannot have both SSR and VWL points in the same contract. The way it would work is you would have two contracts: a master contract with 160 SSR points and an add-on contract with 50 VWL points. Both contracts would have the same Use Year. As already stated, at 8-11 months out you can only use home resort points to make a reservation so you would have 160 points to use at SSR at 8-11 months and 50 points to use at VWL at 8-11 months. At 7 months you can combine the points and use them to make a reservation anywhere. You just need to tell MS which points to use when booking at 7 months because otherwise the computer automatically uses the points in the order in which they were purchased (in your case that would be SSR first, then VWL).

When you purchase an add-on at a sold-out resort you get current year points. If you are purchasing a Feb or Mar UY, you would get 2006 UY points because you would be in your 2006 UY; if you purchase any other UY you would get 2005 points because for those UYs you are still in your 2005 UY.

has anyone done this? am I right about the points from 2005?
I haven't done this because I purchased my original contract via resale. However I did just add on at VWL and did not have to go on a waitlist. I got the points immediately and because I have an Oct UY, I got 2005 UY points because I'm still in my 2005 UY. The points appeared in my account about 24 hours after I called my guide to make the purchase.

You got that right.......This forum has been a great learning tool for us and it help put us over the edge to buy in.....I may add on as well once I figure out the plus to it...I love the BCV and also you never know whats around the corner.

I am wondering if you love VWL so much why bother with SSR at all? May you should look at resale for the VWL contract. That is unless you are planning to finance through Disney.

I like to plan ahead so I decided that I wanted the option to make reservations 11 months out at more than one resort. Our top 3 resorts are BWV, VWL and OKW so I would have liked to have my foot in the door at all three, but figured that would be too much for me to juggle since I'm still new to DVC. So for now we added on at VWL and I'll just have to wait it out when I want to try to book OKW.

The price you pay for this is that managing your points becomes more complicated. For instance, if I want to book a stay at OKW, I have to decide whether to use BWV points or VWL points for that stay. The answer to that question depends on whether my next stay after OKW will be at BWV or VWL and what size villa I plan to book for that trip. So you have to look ahead a trip or two when deciding what to do.

Fortunately, when it comes to banking deadlines, the points are pooled which makes that part of managing points from more than one resort very flexible.
