My niece saw a commercial for Xbox 360 Kinect. She is wanting this for Christmas. The only problem...... we do not have an Xbox. She has a Wii. I do not know anything about an Xbox. What games are good for kids in the 10-14 range? What do you need to play the games. I remember when we bought the Wii it took us a while to figure out what controllers and accessories we needed and what we didn't. I would like to make this as "budget" as possible but still get everything we need to be able to play. Also, I see where you can "pre-order" the Kinect at Walmart for $199. Is this the way to go? What about memory... is it worth it to purchase the Xbox with more memory. Any thoughts, advice---- thanks!

I'm turning this one over to my DH who said he would gladly help......

Yes, in order to utilize the Kinect accessory you will have to have an Xbox360gaming console. If you do not already have an Xbox360, the one that you should purchase is the Xbox360 slim. Even though you can purchase the older Xbox360 at a good price, I would recommend going ahead and purchasing the latest and greatest. Plus, the Xbox360 slim comes Kinect ready. The older version does not.

As far as games go, there are more family friendly games available for the Wii than for the Xbox360. However, with the Kinect accessory, they are introducing more family oriented games. If you have high speed internet and are able to watch videos on-line, go to youtube and search for Kinect videos. There are plenty. That should provide the details you seek.

And as you will learn in the videos, there are NO controllers needed for Kinect. It actually uses your body as the controller. It really is quite an invention. Plus, it does away with annoying wires and difficult to remember button sequences.

As far as purchasing, I recommend Gamestop, EBgames, or Walmart. I prefer Gamestop myself. I hope this helps and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask :thumbsup2

Ditto on the Gamestop recommendation. The staff will spend hours explaining everything to you, and will give you demos of games and stuff. Try getting that at Wal Mart. The Wii is way more family friendly than the xbox. I have 2 boys (9 and 10) so they're into Halo, Call of Duty etc. These type games are better on the xbox. It really comes down to knowing what you're kids will be into. We have both systems, but the xbox gets about 80%of the playtime. The Wii has "family game night" with games like Jenga that are really great for the whole family. Good luck on your pick.

We have a Wii and an Xbox 360. My 11 year old would pick the Xbox hands down over the Wii any day. In fact, we're debating selling the Wii because he NEVER plays it. Of course, he's a boy and he's Halo obsessed! :sad2:

We have XBox360 and it's used online around here already. What's 'Kinect?'
