We are going the first week of March and driving from Michigan. Our party is DH and I and our 2 college age kids. We'll all have reading material and ipods but I'd like some ideas for fun trivia or other travel games we can do for the drive.

Since your kids are college age:
License Plate Poker - We start by everyone putting their ante in the pot. Everyone picks a number, 1-10 (or whatever). You count the vehicles you pass or get passed by. When you come to your chosen number, that license plate makes up your hand - A=Ace, J=Jack, Q=Queen, K=King, number 1 - 10 are same value. Whoever has the best hand after everyone has been "dealt" their "cards" wins the pot. We have played with quarters to use for video games/vending machines, wrapped candy, pennies (the winner picks the meal stop), etc.
Twenty Points - everyone picks a number 0 - 9. Each time they see their number on a license plate they get a point. Three points if it appears twice, and seven if it appears three times. First one to twenty wins.
Meet Your Make - select a number 1-25 (or whatever) as you pass or are passed by vehicles you count them. When you get to your number, that is your vehicle. Pretty good for a laugh now and then.
Cargo Count - take turns guessing how many passengers will be in the next car you pass or passes you. Correct guesses earn as many points as passengers. Whoever has the most points after a designated time or destination is the winner.
License Plate Lingo - Make words out of the letters on license plates. The goal is to make a saying that makes sense. For example - 219OTL could be Out To Lunch.
Radio Tac Toe - Select a radio station (We like to use an oldies station to give mom and dad a better chance.) Each player makes a tic tac toe grid and writes the name of 9 different songs. As the radio plays songs, you cross off the titles if you listed them. First player to get a tic tac toe wins.
Have a great trip and enjoy the drive!

Disneemommee, those are great games for the older bunch!! We always play "How Much Farther Before Mom Blows Her Stack And Takes The Wheel".

Disnee Mommee, those are great ideas! I've gotta print that and put it into the glove box for our long trips.

For trivia, you can get a trivial pursuit game (there are so many on the market, there is bound to be one of interest) and just take the cards on the trip. Take turns reading the questions and answering, just keep score with points for correct answers.

Thought of a couple other things our "big ones" enjoy on the trip. I assume you are taking I-75. I'm not sure if I can give the exact name of these products on the boards. A book is available that has all sorts of info about the drive, places to stop, things you are seeing, etc. Another company offers audio tapes for major highways. They follow the mile markers and are very interesting.

The "License Plate Game"

Everyone gets a sheet that lists all 50 states, the Canadian provinces, Guam, Washington DC, and a blank space.

First person to find a license plate on a car for any given state gets to write it in.

You only get to write each tag once, and only get to find each state once.

hen you reach your destination you add up your score and the person with the highest wins.

We give one point for each continental state, DC, and each province that touches the US, 2 points for provinces that don't touch the US and AK, HI, and three points for Guam. If you find a write-in you get five points--but the write-in must be a governmental issued tag, and can't be on the front of the vehicle.

My kids are younger, but we also do the thing where you make a phrase out of the letters on license plates. Can get pretty funny! The other option is to take the letters and think of the shortest word that has all those letters in it, preferably in the same order. Ex. AAG could be AnAGram. Extra points for Disney related!

Also, Disney guessing games like "who said this" and give a quote from a movie, or "I'm thinking of a character who..."

I am totally addicted to a license plate game that a friend recently taught me. You make one word out of the letters on the plate, they must remain in the order they appear on the plate.

DST 8787 = destination or destiny
YCL 9452 = psychology

Scrabble rule apply: no proper names or places.

I find myself doing this ALL the time.
