We had an emergency that will require the use of a scooter for our trip on Jan 12-19. Has anyone rented one and if so who can you recommend? My hubby can walk for only short distances and not stand for any long times.

We will need it at our resort also. We are staing at the CBR

Thank you.

I took my mother to WDW a few years ago and rented her a scooter.

I got it throught Walker Medical Supply, and they were wonderful. When we checked in, it was waiting for us in a back room, and we just left it at the front desk at the end of our trip to be picked up by them. It couldn't have been a more trouble-free transaction.

The phone # is (407) 331-9500.

The charge for 5 days/4 nights was $117.00

If you have other questiosn about your trip with the scooter, you might want to try the disABILITIES board at this site. They are very helpful.

By the way, the scooter is a lot of fun! And it didn't hinder our trip in the least.

Also, you might want to call the resort a few days ahead of time and nicely request any room they have in your catagory that may be a little larger to accomodate the scooter. I did this, and was pleasantly suprised to see they had upgraded us to a lakeview "fancy" room (I don't know what they called it officially). It wasn't a suite, but it had an extra little seating with a couch and a couple of chairs. Nice and roomy indeed!

In our case it was probably good that we didn't request a handicapped room, because that would have limited their opportunities to ungrade us.

If you hop over to the DisABILITY forum, you should get more responses. We have rented a power wheelchair for my daughter twice from CARE Medical and they have been very good to work with.. CareMedicalEquipment.com or 407-856-2273.

Scooters are easier and cheaper to rent than powerchairs and there are other companies that rent those besides CARE. But we have been veery happy with them. When I wanted to add on a couple of days when my DDs teachers encouraged us to stay in FL with the rest of our gang the week before Thanksgiving, I called from the patio at the Polynesian and they made the switch with no complications.

Your husband should be able to just use the buses from CBR although I have also seen posts about disassembling scooters. Buses seem easier if you're staying on WDW property.
:D

Have a great trip.

Walker Medical is wonderful!

Have rented from them for three years now!

It'll be there when you arrive and all you have to do is leave it with the valet, for pickup, when you leave.

Soooo easy!:sunny:

Hey, nigel-bigel...sorry I was posting when you were.....took me a while to find the #s for CARE!

With CARE, you also just pick up and drop off in the lobby at the Polynesian or it sounds like bell services at Bambi's resort.

Just wanted to add my praise for Walker Mobility. Couldn't have been easier--and we used them several different times.

We just returned from a trip where we rented a scooter for my Mom to use. We rented from Randy's Mobility (they have an 800 number but I don't have it in front of me. the Orlando # is 407-855-6562). We chose Randy's b/c they were the least expensive at $30/day or $150/week. So $150 for 7 days as opposed to $200+ with most other places. I read a few people who weren't thrilled with them only because you have to be there for him to drop off the scooter. The reason for this is that he shows you how to use it and how to take it apart to get it in the car/storage and all that. He tells you to call as soon as you get in and make arrangements for the drop off. The whole process took like 10 minutes for us. He was early for the time we had set up for drop off and on time for pick up. The scooter was in great shape and worked out really well for her.

Make sure you stop by guest relations at whatever park you go to first and get a guest assistance pass. The pass is good for your entire stay and will help you out in many ways. Things like using the alternate entrance for rides when it's available.

I'll be glad to look up that 800 # for you if you are interested.

Hope you have a great trip!!!

We used Randy's too, they were great. I did notice their scooters were all in wonderful shape, some of the rentals looked like they had been around the block more than a few times. I don't think you can go wrong with any rental place mentioned on the disabilities board.

On our last trip to Disney, we had my husband's two grandmothers with us and we did Epcot all together and got them some scooters. It was pretty easy to pick one up and I think at first the ladies were 'embarrassed' to be riding one but after some time, they were happy they did. It was hot walking around and it helped them alot.

Besides we also got on some of the riders faster too...LOL

The only problem we had was after the firework show in Epcot when everyone was leaving, most people on foot, didn't want to give the time of day to the people in the scooters. My husband had gotten myself and the grandma's lighted roses. He took two of them and used them to clear a path for the ladies. It was really funny and then more scooters joined in. He had a parade of like 8 scooters and everyone moved! Both Grandma's still talk about that!

Was a great experience. I couldn't imagine them being able to spend the whole day at Epcot w/out the scooters.

Good luck and have fun on your trip!!

I agree that electric scooters are awesome. Without them, grandma would not have been able to come with us.
We used Randy's Mobility. They were great, and the scooters were much much nicer than any of the other ones we saw that week. We had a minivan, and we took the scooter apart in less than 60 seconds and tossed it in the back behind the last seat when we drove to Sea World, and to Animal Kingdom, basically anywhere without a monorail, lol.
Randy's Mobility was on time, even early, and very friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

And to Dee112.....

I just wanted to mention that you don't need to get a Guest Assistance Card (GAC) with a wheelchair or ecv. Just having the wheelchair or ecv lets you use the wheelchair accessible or alternate entrances when they are available. Most of the lines at WDW are wheelchair and ecv accessible. There are rides where you don't board at the normal boarding spot - a CM will pull you out of the main line before boarding (often close to the boarding point). be on the lookout for gates or chains with the wheelchair symbol on them. If there is no CM to direct you, wait there and one will come soon.
GACs are used for invisible disabilities so that the CM can tell what sorts of assistance someone needs easily. If your difficulties are mostly mobility, you won't need a GAC because the CM can see the wheelchair or ecvv and know what assistance to give.

Do stop at Guest Services and get a Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities. There is one for each park. They are sort of basic info, but do provide information about which rides are "turbulent thrill rides" as opposed to "gentle boat ride." They also have some info about whether or not a ride has a moving walkway for boarding. The few rides that have alternate entrances are listed there with where to go for boarding - for most rides/attractions, there is not an alternate entrance and it says "Proceed thru the Mainstream queue. A CM will direct you."
