Please help! We are visiting Disney for the first time. We chose the dining plan, so we need to pick 7 Quick Service and 7 Table Service meals. We were planning to choose at random when we got there, but from reading the other posts it seems like we really need a plan.

Thanks!!!!!

Me too! What I did was read all the menus on allearsnet.com and decide. We decided to pay for all our breakfasts and just use the dining plan for lunch and dinner. When you get to the allears site, just click on dining, then click on menus. I don't know how to do a link or I'd post one here for you. Also on the same site, you can read recent reviews for all the restaurants.

Here's the ones we picked. It's fun reading the menus.

counter services
Pinocchio's Village Haus (MK)
Columbia Harbour (MK)
Cosmic Rays (MK)
Wolfgang Puck Express (Downtown Disney Marketplace)
Tusker House (AK)
Sunshine Seasons (Epcot)

table services
Garden Grill (Epcot character lunch)
Rose & Crown dinner (Epcot)
Sci-Fi lunch (MGM)
50's Primetime dinner (MGM)
Tony's Town Square (MK) lunch
Coral Reef dinner (Epcot)
LeCellier Steak House dinner (Epcot)

Counter service -
Depends on which park , and where you are close to!

MK - Pekos Bill
AK - Tuskar house (they have a/c!!)
Epcot - any and all are wonderful - just sample around Showcase! Japanese, Chinese, oh wait - Do Morraco's Tangerine Cafe!!
MGM - definately get to Backlot Express - but timing is critical - must get there befoe Indy Jones lets out, or unbearably long lines!!

TS:
MK - either a resort meal Kona Cafe, Character meal 1900 Park Fair, or Liberty Tree Tavern (in the Park)
Epcot - Hands down LeCellier in Canada
MGM - do a Fantasmic Dinner Pkg, cheapest Hollywood and VIne Buffet - most expensive (dont think its a FDP tho) Brown Derby for Cobb Salad and Grapefruit Cake
AK - does not apply

Signature Restaurants - 2 ts Cali Grille (Contemp. or Wilderness Lodge for) Artist Point (check menus at www.allearsnet.com)

DTD - counter Service Earl of Sandwich (great to go sandwich consume at MCO while waiting for plaine!!)

You may want to focus your meals around the parks you want to go to, rather than focusing on the dining locations first. That being said, here are a few suggestions:

Counter Service
Flame Tree BBQ (AK)
Columbia Harbor House (MK)
Earl of Sandwich (DD)
Rose & Crown (EPCOT)

Table Service
Le Cellier (EPCOT)
Akershus (EPCOT)
Hollywood & Vine (MGM)
Boma (AKL)
Artist Point (WL)

I would add we would share/split our Lunch Counter Service meals and share a breakfast at our resort - sometimes paying out of pocket for an extra starch or protein...

CS at MK - Pekos Bill and Cosmic Rays have huge portions - you can even get the dbl cheeseburger meal and pay out of pocket for a bun and have 2 cheeseburgers, freeing up a CS for breakfast- Cosmic Rays dh and I split a meal that included chicken and ribs!! It was a lot of food!! At AK the Flame tree gets great reviews, but alas, its an outdoor eatery - I need AIR CONDITIONING!! dh loves the fish entree here - but again, often we'll split the chicken - its HUGE!! At Tangerine Cafe - there is a chicken wrap up that is huge - its a wonderful place to get a lot of food and split!!

TS places - again, check the menus - Yacht Club gets great reviews, the Contemp. has a steak house on the same level as Chef Mickeys - Chef Mickey's is a character meal that many rave about that's a TS - if you have girls, you may want to go to Norway for breakfast Character Princess meal... If you want other character meals - Crystal Palace at MK, or Breakfastourus at AK get good reviews and are TS places!!

you have to find what works for your families tastes - if you need other opinions, dont hesitate to post!!

PS its not pretty, but here's a link to the menus - look at the list of places on the far right!!

Thanks so much!!! ESPECIALLY for the tips on places with A/C - my boys wont eat a thing if they are hot. Is there somewhere to find out which places have A/C?

You not only need a plan-you need to make sure you make the reservations before you go. When is your trip? How many are in your group? :sunny:

Sounds like you are using the Dining Plan. Don't confine yourself to 1 TS and 1 CS per day. When we had a down day we would just eat at our resorts CS all that day. We then did 1900 Park Fare for a late breakfast (11am) then had dinner at Concourse Steakhouse at 6pm. It was a MK day.

If your DS's like video games try Pizza Planet at DS. It's got a/c and a nice break (although a bit noisy) from touring during mid day.

First of all you definitely NEED ADR's for your TS meals. The Dining Plan has made sit down meals so popular that it is nearly impossible to get in without an ADR. You can now make them 180 days in advance, so they have been available to make for your June timeframe since about Dec 13th. Character meals are especially popular, if those interest you with your little ones. Many folks think it is less stressful to see the main characters at a meal than in the parks.
I would also advise you to first map out which park on which day. Once you have done that you can decide on your restaurants for that day. Check out the menus on allearsnet.com and see what restaurant menus appeal to you. You do not have to limit yourselves to the parks, but you can also enjoy one of the nearby resort restaurants if you wish to. Remember that sit down meals average on hour to an hour and a half, that will take out of your park touring time.
You can be flexible with your CS meals. Folks have already given lots of good ideas for CS in the parks.
Good Luck with your ADR's and have a wonderful trip.

Tangierine Café (EPCOT/WS Morocco)
Columbia Harbour House (MK)

I don't know when you go or who is in your party, but in Sept 2005, my family (DH, DD3, and me) ate some TS breakfasts and were not really hungry for lunch. So we would use one of our snack credits and have a early dinner. Another good thing about an early dinner, you miss the crowds to eat and the parks are less busy during dinner time. We still checked out with 10 out of 18 snack credits, so we got to bring snacks home! It helped keep the Magic alive.

Here is what we enjoyed:
TS
Crystal Palace breakfast at MK
Chef Mickey dinner at Contemporary
Olivia's dinner at Old Key West
Cinderella's Royal Table breakfast at MK

CS
Tusker House lunch at AK
POP Century foodcourt lunch
Main Street Cafe lunch MK

Definately plan your parks, then your meals. Unless you have park hoppers, you cannot go to the park just for your meal.

Have a magical trip.

Like others have said, check out the menus on allears.net & try to plan/schedule ADR's at the restaurants you think you'll like in/nearby the parks at which you'll be on that day.

In the Magic Kingdom area, we've tried & liked the following:

Table-Service - - Cinderella's Royal Table (in the MK), Crystal Palace (in the MK), Liberty Tree Tavern (in the MK), 'Ohana (at the Poly), Trail's End (at Fort Wilderness)

Counter-Service - - Columbia Harbour House

Other 1-credit, table-service restaurants in the Magic Kingdom area that look good & generally get good reviews are the Plaza Restaurant (in the MK), Grand Floridian Cafe (at the Grand Floridian), Kona Cafe (at the Poly), 1900 Park Fare (at the Grand Floridian), & Whispering Canyon Cafe (at the Wilderness Lodge).

In the Epcot area, we enjoyed the counter-service at Sunshine Seasons. We did not care for our dinner at the table-service restaurant at Akershus (Norway World Showcase pavillion), but I think the menu has changed a bit since last May. I'd be willing to try it again.

Two 1-credit, table-service restaurants in Epcot that get good reviews are Garden Grill (in The Land pavillion) & Le Cellier (in the Canadian World Showcase pavillion - gets rave review!). Other World Showcase restaurants that we'd like to try are Biergarten (Germany), Chefs de France (France), Marrakesh (Morroco), Rose & Crown (United Kingdom), San Angel Inn (Mexico), & Teppanyaki (Japan). I definitely recommend scheduling at least 1 ADR for a World Showcase restaurant. Coral Reef (in The Living Seas pavillion) also looks good - although, it gets mixed reviews. I wasn't able it fit Coral Reef in our dining plans this year, but I think we'll try it next year.

I'm not as familiar w/ the Epcot resort restaurants, so I can't recommend anything there.

In MGM, we liked Toy Story Pizza Planet as a counter-service. We did not like the table-service restaurant, Hollywood & Vine.

In the Animal Kingdom area, we loved the table-service restaurant, Boma, at the Animal Kingdom Lodge & highly recommend it! Flame Tree BBQ (in the AK) was our very favorite counter-service in all of WDW.

As an example, we will be at WDW for 7 nights in June, and our ADR schedule is as follows:

ARRIVAL AFTERNOON/EVENING - MAGIC KINGDOM (Tuesday)

Lunch - Counter Service at Casey's (in the MK)
Dinner - Table Service at Liberty Tree Tavern (in the MK)

MGM DAY (Wednesday)

Lunch - Counter Service at Toy Story Pizza Planet (at MGM)
Dinner - Table Service at Mama Melrose's for a Fantasmic Dinner Pckg (at MGM)

MAGIC KINGDOM DAY (Thursday)

Lunch - Table Service at Crystal Palace (in the MK)
Dinner - Counter Service at Pinocchio Village Haus (in the MK)

EPCOT DAY (Friday)

Lunch - Table Service at the Garden Grill (at The Land pavillion in Epcot)
Dinner - Counter Service from the World Showcase counters (in Epcot)

MAGIC KINGDOM DAY (Saturday)

Lunch - Table Service at Cinderella's Royal Table (in the MK)
Dinner - grilling out at our cabin (we're staying at Fort Wilderness)

ANIMAL KINGDOM DAY/EPCOT EVENING (Sunday)

Breakfast - Table Service at Donald's Breakfastasauras (in the AK)
Lunch - Counter Service at Flame Tree BBQ (in the AK)
Dinner - Table Service at San Angel Inn (at the Mexico World Showcase pavillion in Epcot)

EPCOT/MAGIC KINGDOM DAY (Monday)

Breakfast - Table Service at Princess Storybook at Akershus (at the Norway World Showcase pavillion in Epcot)
Lunch - Counter Service at Columbia Harbour House (in the MK)
Dinner - Table Service at Whispering Canyon Cafe (at the Wilderness Lodge)

DEPARTURE DAY (Tuesday)

Breakfast - Table Service at Chef Mickey's (at the Contemporary Resort)
Lunch - Counter Service at Earl of Sandwich (at Downtown Disney)

Since we'll be there for 7 nights, we'll have 7 counter-service & 7 table-service credits for each of us. We plan to use our table-service credits at the following: (1) Liberty Tree Tavern, (2) Mama Melrose's, (3) Crystal Palace, (4) Garden Grill, (5) San Angel Inn, (6) Princess Storybook, and (7) Whispering Canyon Cafe. We plan to pay OOP (out of pocket) for Cinderella's Royal Table, Donald's Breakfastasauras, & Chef Mickey's.

Have fun choosing!!

I agree with the other posters on plan on what days you'll be at parks and your non park days because you do not want to be going all over the place for meals. Once you do that..you can pick places to eat that you might like from allearsnet.com (as previuosly stated). Then..you MUST make ADRs (reservations). You are going in the summer and it's busy, plus you have younger children who after a long hot day in the park don't feel like waiting long times. Here's another tip: make the reservations for around the time your kids normally eat (can be 30-60 mins later, too). That way they aren't starving by the time they eat. WDW is so big and can be overwhelming because there is so much to do. If you have just a small plan mapped out it goes much smoother. Have a great trip!

Our favorite cs:

Columbia Harbor House in MK
Season in the Land at Epcot
Tusker House at AK
Flame Tree at AK
Norway Bakery at Epcot
Fountainview Bakery at Epcot
French Bakery at Epcot
(notice a pattern?)
Earl of Sandwich DTD
Wolfgang Puck Express DTD

Favorite TS

Liberty Tree Tavern MK
Le Cellier Epcot
Sci-Fi MGM
Hollywood Brown Derby MGM (2 ts - well worth it)
50's Prime Time Cafe MGM
Princess Storybook Breakfast - Epcot
Chef Mickeys
1900 Park Fare
Kona Cafe
Ohana
Crystal Palace
Rainforrest Cafe DTD (Not on dining plan but my kids love it)
Plaza Restaurant in MK (pretty reasonable so we usually pay OOP here)

Have fun picking!

If you are in the United Kingdom area when you want a counter service, I loved the fish and chips.

In Animal Kingdom we enjoyed Pizzafari. It is fun to look at the murals in the different dining rooms. I enjoyed my parmesean chicken sandwich and everyone else liked their pizza. There is garlic all through the crust and my daughter ate every bite.

I really enjoyed Boma's and Teppenyaki. We also liked Crystal Palace, Pooh and friends are our favorites.
