Need to go Commando (meaning on a mission, not underwear)?

As I typed that I realized the double entendre of "going Comando". Sorry!

We are going to US and IOA for one day in mid-August. We are Disney vets and are used to going all out with a touring plan, a mission and a focused attitude on doing the things that are most important. That's how we approach Disney. Do we need that attitude for US/IOA? We will be staying on property, so we will have EE and EP. We will definitely get there early; these kids don't sleep in ever. Also, my kids won't be able to ride the rides with the tallest requirements (54"). Can we take a more relaxed attitude for a day and still experience the majority of the parks?

When it comes to WDW, I am just like you. Touring plans to-the-minute, etc.

Going to the 'dark side' is a very different experience. With EE and EP, you can pretty much point in a direction to walk, and hit everything that comes your way. It is definitely relaxed.

There are really only a few tips needed. The major Harry Potter rides (one in each park) are not on the EP. You have to wait in line for them.

Two: The Minion ride, even with EP, backs up. Hit that as close to rope drop as possible.

Three: One day may only leave you wanting more. Your deluxe hotel stay gets you two days of the EP. See if you can fit that extra day in at Universal and you will not regret it.

This is all a relief! We are tacking on one day before our Disney cruise and I'm glad we can be a little more relaxed before we head to PC. I'm excited to experience it all, but it's been about 17 years since I last went...

I KNOW!!! I've been reading everything I can and trying to figure out what the kids will understand and how much we can fit in in one day. HP World is a must and Minions too. I've got more to read for sure, but we will get there by August!!!

For one day you'll be a bit more intense than if you had two days, but it's still a lot easier with the onsite deluxe stay.

You might start thinking "I don't have to be on the ship until 4, so we could leave the resort area at 2 to give us time for gas and tolls and rental return", and then that leads to "get into the parks at opening and play until 1"!

Not that we've had those thoughts or anything.

You might also consider, just for fun, budgeting for upgrading to APs, just in case everyone falls in love with the place.

Allow plenty of time to get to PC though. That traffic can be murder. However, we left from WDW, so maybe it's different from US. Although, it always takes us longer to get to stuff in Orlando than we or Google thinks it should.

US is a blast. I view it as a vacation from Disney, because we are touringplans.com, commando types too. I still like to use their plans for US though, because they know the tricks, like Minions at RD. It's a great park. You won't be able to visit Orlando again without spending at least two full days there.
