I will be needing to purchase my 10 year old son a costume while we are there. We are going to the Mickey's Halloween party and my kids want to dress up. Where is the best place to buy costumes there..I am hoping a good store in California Adventure or downtown Disney.

Probably World of Disney in DTD would be your best bet.

Just curious, why can't you purchase one before your trip? World of Disney probably is best as it seems to be most like a Disney Store and Disney Store has tons of costumes.

I think you should have a backup plan, like locating the nearest Spirit store or a cab to Target/WalMart. Disney costumes tend to be the smaller sizes. Outside of party days only kids 9 and under are supposed to dress up, so they really seem to keep costumes for them in stock. Many 10 year olds might wear the same size, but the selection might not be great. Unless you're looking for something like the Darth Vader costume tee or hoodie, and you could bring black pants from home and add something like Darth Vader Mickey ears or a beanie to coordinate.

We bought tickets for the Mickey's Halloween Party last week and I haven't had time to look around here. We live in a small town with not a lot of selection. My boy wanted to be the grim reaper but I don't think that is allowed in the parks is it?

You can also order something from Disneystore.com or Amazon and have it delivered to your hotel. Disney probably would allow the grim reaper (without the scythe I would imagine), but the parties really do promote a family friendly atmosphere. Gory or violent costumes appear, but stand out among the rated G costumes. Does your son like Marvel or Star Wars?

You could probably find a black cloak at WalMart or Target, have him wear that to the parks and then let him do the other grim reaper stuff when you get home. I wore that costume for several years. I painted black around my eyes and white powder on the rest of my face. I think that would be fine for the parks. I think a plastic scythe would probably also be ok, but kind of a pain to deal with on rides, so save that for home.

Is he a small 10 or a bigger 10? My DD is a tall 9 year old who is not heavy, but has a larger build and wears a size 12. There is really not much at DLR or WDW or even the Disney Store that fits her anymore. I don't know if they add anything around Halloween at DLR, but in addition to being very limited on larger child sizes, they don't usually have any teen or adult costumes. I would be worried you might not find anything that fits on Disney property.

Have you tried Costco or Walmart before your trip? I have seen cool Disney costumes there for kids... if not, World of Disney is the best choice (Downtown Disney)

There's a Target right down the road on Harbor, you'll have a much easier time finding a costume or pieces to make one like that there. I doubt you'll even find non-Disney costumes in the parks or DTD, but I've never been for halloween so I can't say for sure.

Either way, you won't spend nearly as much at Target as you would Disney for a costume.
