Need to bring in an extra $150 a month while working full time? How?

Hi my husband and I both work full time jobs and I need to bring in an extra $150 a month if possible. We both took jobs that were offered to us when our old company sold and it was for less pay. But in this economy and with three kids we were worried we would have no job at all. Anyways is there a way I can bring in this kind of money a month between working full time and three kids, homework, dinners, and everything else. Thanks!!

Do you really need $150 a month extra or can you carve at least that out of your current budget? Depending on your tax bracket, you might have to earn quite a bit more to bring home the extra $150.

$75 every two weeks doesn't sound impossible. A part time job, a couple of evenings a week would probably do it.

I would look at cutting your expenses first though! A few years ago - we thought that I needed a job but found it was easier to cut our expenses than it would have been for me to get a job!

can you find a house to clean on saturdays? (about $60) (although a lot of people are doing away with that luxury)

what about tending bar one night a week?

it seems like $40 a week might be easier to cut from the budget. or split it in half. cut half of it, and make half of it.

as far as babysitting, many night shift workers have a hard time finding babysitters.

With ChaCha you are an independent contractor so you get a 1099 at the end of the year. I, too, found ChaCha here in 2008. I love it!

Could either of you work extra hours for your company on a permanent or temporary basis? If you can prove the need (company's need, not yours) for extended workweek it might get approved.

A couple of months I guess...I'm earning around $100/week since I can only write on the odd night here and there. Once my youngest is in preschool 5 days this fall I'll be able to do much better.

FWIW, I started off with a rating of a 4 and they they submitted me for a rating of a 5 w/in the first month, though, so that does help a lot with the rate of pay. If you can get rated at least a 4 you can do pretty well.

I've looked into doing mystery shopping but am wary of any work that will produce a 1099 at tax time. My partner once got a 1099 when she worked as a nanny & she owed a good chunk in taxes (since she had to pay all of the SS/Medicare taxes herself). Never again.

1099 you are responsible for paying your own taxes on the money.

Just be sure to read their terms of service VERY carefully. You will not own, nor can you ever use anything for which you receive payment. If it is ever used in other media, etc. - you will not be credited, cannot receive derivatives, etc.
Personally, I would have a difficult time signing away intellectual property for the pittance they offer. (It would be the equivalent of sharing an idea for a feature film with someone at a pub and later finding out he/she was a Disney executive -- then, having them make millions on the licensing, etc. and never being paid, nor credited with the story or its characters)
