Need thoughts & prayers for our two fur babies - SIMBA'S HOME!!

Final update - Simba is back in the house now after a week of gaining his trust little by little. :cool1: DH almost had him in on Thursday, but lost hold of him, getting scratched in the process. He was afraid that Simba would not come back around. When I got home, he came and talked to me and I was able to just barely pet him as he would walk by me.

We kept doing this each day and night. Tonight I was outside reading and he came to talk to me again. I put my book down and crouched down to be able to pet him. :rolleyes1 He went to a food dish and I started inching forward :tiptoe: and when he came by me I was able to get a hold of his scruff and since I had already prepped the door, I got him in and closed the door really fast. Then I retrieved my book and slipped in.

The other cats are having to get used to him again since he has been out of the house for over a month. He has been gone almost 2 months. We set up the large dog crate that we have and put him in there so that he get comfortable again.

I was determined to have him back in the house by the end of the weekend and I got him in just before midnight. ;)

Wow, that's one stubborn cat.

My cats growing up were always outdoor cats because my grandfather would never allow for them to live inside. Even during hurricanes they were put under the house (the house was built with a 2ft ). Of course that didn't prevent me and my sister sneaking them into the house all the time.

Yeah for Simba finally being home and inside where he belongs. I was sad when I read your story, since my Simba had just passed away after 14 years. I said a prayer that yours would find his way home to you, and I am so glad to hear that he finally did! Now , just make sure he can't escape..he's had a taste of 'freedom'..and may try again and again. I am sure the whole family is revelling in his return to the house, and your other furbabies will get used to him being there again in time!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Yeah!!!!!

What a wonderful Thanksgiving for both of you! I hope he gets an extra helping of turkey. I was thinking positive thoughts that he would stay close and safe since you said he was near. Good job to both you and Simba.

Yay!! You did great!! Since your Simba went outside, mine has gone outside also and has decided he likes it there. He comes up to me every time I go out and I hold him and pet him, but he loves being outside and since he doesn't go near the road, I'm ok with him being happy out there. I took him to the vet last week because he looked thin and was wobbly and they told me he has a heart condition (I can't remember the name of it because it was long) but it means his heart is twice the size it should be and it doesn't pump enough blood efficiently enough. Because of his heart condition, his kidneys do not work as well either. He now has vitamins with iron, a heart pill, and special food to not do more damage to his kidneys. He had only lost 1/4 lb. He could make it for years if this works, but if not, he won't make it long. Whatever days he has though will be happy days so I pet him every chance I get.

BTW, do you have a picture of the feral home? I would love to see it.

just be prepared for him to make another escape. My guy loves to stalk the door and escape. Most days he doesnt go far and if I yell he comes right back in.. but sometimes I chase him for a few hours!

After being woken up at 2:30am with him fussing at the other cats and they at him, we have decided to find him a home with fewer cats. We are calling our local Paws & Claws rescue group to have them find him a foster home until he can get a new home. He is a sweet boy, but with him getting this taste of freedom, and probably having to fight for food, we feel it would be better for him to go to a home possibly without other cats.

I was so happy to be able to get him in, especially after I saw that he had a tick on him. I was able to get a hold of him after I got him in and get the tick off without him fighting me or anything. He just sat there and let me get it off and then I held his head gently and loved on him and talked to him.

We have put him in a separate room, so that he has more room to move and the other cats won't bother him. We have a new furbaby who is still a baby and we don't want him going after her.

I know Paws & Claws will find him a great home. I started volunteering for them at our local PetSmart in their adoption center and they really care about where each animal goes.
