OK creative types I need some help!

Cam wants a surfing theme in his room in the new house.

A friend said she'd help me make a board out of foam and then cover it so we can hang that from the ceiling and I found a cool rug at OTC that I love. Beyond that though Im clueless.

any ideas? I could really use some help!

Thanks :)

My nephew has a surfing room and it looks really cool. My sister found some vintage surfing posters that she framed to hang in the room. She actually hung real surfboards up (they live in CA so it was easy to find a couple old cheap ones). She found a really cool bedspread and sheets. And then his bedskirt she made out of raffia (sp?).

I bought some things for my DD at Ron Jons. You can order off their website www.ronjons.com I got her a really cute surf board rug, but it was more expensive than OTC. Also got some cute stuff from www.pbteen.com

Saw this on a room makeover show once... for the window treatment, drape a rope from one side to the other of the valence and use it as a clothsline to hold brightly colored/patterned bathing suits with clothespins. You can get the suits cheap at a thrift store.

To echo what a previous poster said regarding the raffia bed skirt, this design show used several hula skirts that were made out of raffia and then just opened them up (so it was just a line of raffia all connected together by the waist band) and attached around the base of the bed.

Do a painting effect on the walls and ceiling to look like clouds in the sky and water. If you don't feel comfortable in your ability to paint a mural, just take a few shades of light to medium turquoise blue and make a faux finish, with flowing, brushstrokes from left to right in slight 's' shapes. Intermix strokes of the varying colors for a textured look, or start with the lightest at the top and slowly work your way down to the darkest shade at the bottom. No need for perfection, the strokes can be random and there would be no 'right' way to do it, but it would give a neat effect of water.

pottery barn teen has a bunch of surf stuff, including a wall mural. pbteen.com

I usually look at their catalogs because I like that style, and try to find outlet/ebay/target pieces that are either discounted pb or good imitations. Good luck! fun theme!

Dd wants a horsey room and I found a site that has wallpaper murals..

Border Store Online

It is called the border store but they also have full wall murals. I looked and they have these...

This one is more kid like

There are several others that are just beach scenes too. The prices are right and they are easy to hang...have fun!

ps. Here is what DD's will look like

DD has a surfer room. We bought a large Hawaiian hula skirt at a party store(a tan one, almost like raffia type material) and cut it to make a window valance. We also used it as the edging to her round bedside table. She gets lots of compliments on the valance and table, guess because its a bit different.

We got a few things at pbteen too. I saw at Bed Bath and Beyond that had some nice sufer themed bedspreads. It is a popular theme now so you shuldnt have too much trouble.

one of my friends did a surfing theme in her DS' room, and they made "surfboard shelves" - the shelves look like surfboards cut in half and mounted on the wall. I have no idea how she did it, but it looks really cool. They also have a surfboard headboard and footboard (both look like they were made of surfboards). I don't know if they used real surfboards or just made it to look like real surfboards, but it's a great look!

I'll see if I can get in touch with her today and find out how she did all that.

I just did our kids bathroom in a surfing theme! My dd's bedroom is a surfer girl theme too. Check out PBteen.com for cool surf/hawaiian style bedding. Deanmillerprints.com also has tons of hawaiian bedding and decor. Ebay is another great place for surfer decor. I found this border at Lowes, and used it in our kids bathroom:

Also, check out this cool site! You can find the above wallpaper border there too: http://www.surferbedding.com/

I just made a duvet for my nieces who have a beach-themed room. Their fabric choice was flip-flops.

We thought about making throw pillows for the bed in the shape/style of flip flops.

A cute valance idea that I saw in a doctor's office recently:
They made a valence look like an awning. It was precious!

LOL, just call me Dan Murphy...I always have my camera with me and took photos. Here is what it looks like:

This would be so cute in a canvas stripe--with sortof a surf-shop theme!

all gret suggestions...dont forhet to add some palm tree accesories..lowes has some nice palm tree lamps and ceiling fans..maybe a cloud design ceiling. i really liked the surf board shelf idea. make sure to post some pics when your done, would love to see it.

Don't know if this would apply
saw in a decorating show, someone made a coffee table out of an old surfboard.
Also, saw them make a headboard, 2 different ways with old surfboards.
One style was the whole surfboard lengthwise, the other they sawed four front halves, mounted them to painted plywood, then mounted to wall.
when we were young-- we had friends who mounted their surfboards to the wall of their living room, as art--looked super-
also, a neighbor with a lot of wall space to fill used tropical beach towels, mounted, as art on her walls--in the guest rooms she used smaller sections of the beach towels as mats for her photos of beaches & tropical fish
