my DSS is graduating HS this year.

I want to find a grad gift for him, but I also want to do something for his mother. I am not sure how to do that or how it would be taken. She has raised a wonderful boy with little help from us (other than monetarily). It probably isn't even appropriate, but I feel the need to do it.

Any thoughts?

she really isn't a spa type gal though. She recently divorced, so she is single again....she works a night shift as well and sleeps during the day if that helps any.

That sounds like a lovely gesture for you to make.

I would not think that it is inappropriate at all.

Depending on what his mother likes even something as simple as a nice heartfelt card or an arrangement of flowers would let her know how you feel.

Have you tried asking DSS? He might have better insight as to what she may want.

Since you aren't sure how she would receive it, what if you helped DSS give her a gift to say thanks for all she's done? Or maybe if you send them on a short weekend "graduation" getaway?

all of these suggestions are wonderful, they just don't fit her. "My" boy, he is no help...he hem haws around like he does everything - although I am certain he says what he does to keep the peace, which he does not need to do.
