Hello Everyone, I could use a little help with DVC's. DH & I have been talking about getting a DVC however, we are not sure that is the best route for us. But I have been thinking about renting some points for a 30th Birthday trip next year. Can anyone give me advice about DVC's, renting, what to expect, Dining plans and so forth. I have been reading but I think it is better to hear from those who have experience of own or renting DVC's.

Thanks for the help!

renting is fairly easy - but requires trust.

go to the renting board and read all the FAQ at the top - before you decide.

definitely get a contract and check references.

if you rent a DVC resort then to get DDP you don't have to buy tickets. You just have to tell the member. You will pay for it when you arrive at the resort. Full payment up front when you check in at the front desk. It must be order before arrival.

that say DVC is having a special now if you want to buy. of course hoping that CRV will be annouced later this year.

don't rent on fri/sat too expensive - my opinon.

Thanks for the help. We have used the dining plan before but I was not sure how it works with the DVC. Also when I check in would the ressie be under my name?

yes, the reservation will be in your name.

until you check in, though, the owner will control the reservation and will be the only one allowed to contact MS.

the DDP works basically the same with DVC as without. the difference with using with DVC points: you aren't required to buy a ticket, but "free dining" is never an option (because your room is basically already discounted.)

I’ve rented points from a onwer a couple of times. I know that weekend points are expensive but we stay onsite for a week and a half. And we don’t like to move. We’re paying $200.00 to $300.00 more a night NOT to move verses moving and paying cash…do your research. It’s all up to your preference. Anyway, everything has worked out well. We love the DVC rooms for the space and kitchen/ette facilities.

OK, the two most important things that I would offer you are:
1. READ, READ and READ all the information here. The posted links are a great resource.
2. Don’t be afraid to decline the first offer that comes your way. You need to feel comfortable with the owner. I personally offer to call the owner. The expense is small compared to the comfort (or uncomfortable) level it can provide you.

Why don’t we buy you ask? We vacation twice a year and well, we only visit WDW every four years. Of course now that we visit Disneyland every four years….hummmm ….LOL
