Need Some DL Packing Advice...What Are Your "Must Pack" Items?

okay....could be a good trivia question....what year did it rain in August......If it does not rain in August....I will buy you some breading pudding the second Wednesday in December.....if I don't spend all my money on Monsoon repairs, this is scary stuff living on the California border, the phone is always popping up with messages to be alert....Bad Weather ahead.

We love to say DLR weather is unpredictable but it’s August. August. Basically the only month you can be confident there won’t be rain. Obviously check your forecast pre-trip but the average rainfall in the month of Aug for Anaheim is literally 0.00 inches (https://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/anaheim/california/united-states/usca0027)

Beyond my normal Aug packing, I add a long sleeve tee shirt to throw on over the top of tee shirts I am wearing as early AM and late night can get cooler, but I don't need a sweatshirt. I do pack a sweatshirt just in case.

Phone back up battery and cord.

My daughter has excel spreadsheets. She has one for long weekend trips, one for longer trips, and one for Christmas trips. Since she started this, we rarely forget things.

Whats In My Park Bag
I use a this small backpack

Over the years I have tried all types of bags and I find this size works best for me.

I have my park ticket in a plastic lanyard pouch which I then attach to my bag using a retractable cord thingy

Drinks
I take 1 bottle of water and 1 bottle of soda into the parks. I buy a large 5 gallon bottle of water which I keep in my room and refill the water bottle in the mornings for the park. The soda I buy either in CVS or 7 11. You can get 3 bottles for $3 outside the parks but in Disney 1 bottle is $3! During the day I will refill the water bottle when I am in restaurants. Other than coffee or alcohol I dont buy any soda or water in the parks

Goodness! That’s quite the list...

I hate to break it to you though...bottled water in Disneyland is $4.75!

Stuff I take to the park:

* Mini first aid kit with bandaids, blister bandaids, antibiotic ointment, moleskin, small pair of scissors, Pepto tablets, Tylenol
* Butter knife (for candy apples, they won't slice them for you)
* Small toiletry bag containing sunscreen, baby wipes, mini sanitizer from Bath and Body Works
* Pins and ears
* Lunatec Aquabot Mister (love this, sprays a fine mist, better than the cheap ones)
* Lanyard to keep my ticket, pins, small amount of cash, and ID
* Jackery battery charger (has its own cords)
* Fun Disney stuff I get at Target or the dollar store to give to little kids -- glow bands, bubbles, etc.
* M&Ms tube with quarters and "good" pennies for squashing
* Relief Band for motion sickness -- this looks like a watch and is battery operated, works wonders
* Cooling towel

At the hotel

* Body glide, baby powder, foot powder
* Downy wrinkle release spray (no ironing on vacation)
* Box to put on the counter in the room where everyone throws their important stuff -- ie tickets, phones, lanyards -- so there's no looking for it
* Cheap Disney pop-up laundry hamper
* Combination laundry soap/fabric softener sheets
* Thorlos wicking socks -- used to have terrible problems with blisters until I started wearing these

Your kids seem beyond the age of the bubble wand blowers. But if not target and Kroger had the Mickey ones.

I always pack light up bracelets / necklaces for myself. Haha! The kids might get one too!

We buy one of the giant packages of glow bracelets/necklaces, then give them away to all the kids near us at nighttime entertainment, BB meals, or anywhere else dark. It creates a lot of joyful play all around.

Many items have already been listed, like moleskin, band aids, case or two of water,(we drive), gum, Starbucks gift card fully loaded, sunblock, lip balm with sunblock in it. Ibuprofen and acetaminophen, Night Quil and Day Quil, allergy medicine, ziplock bags in various sizes, a knife, small scissors, sewing kit, duct tape.

One thing I found very useful at DLR that I didn't need at WDW was a small pouch (it's a Vera Bradley ID case/change purse) that I used to hold only our hard tickets and FPs. It has a key ring on it that I could attach (externally) to my (small) backpack so I wasn't constantly having to open and rifle through my bag for my tickets when I wanted to get/use FPs. Of course, that was before MP, it's probably not AS necessary now, but I still plan on taking it on my next trip. (And, if you choose NOT to get MP and just use the old FP system, it would still be very useful.) Otherwise, I found my needs in both parks to be similar. Have fun on your trip!!

One must have item not mentioned: a power strip, I bring one every trip I go on, so much easier to plug in all my chargeables(not a word).

There's some great advice in this thread.

Pardon my ignorance, but on the power rods to charge your cell phone- can someone explain those to me like I'm clueless (because I am)?

Are they one use or do you charge those and re-use them? I'm totally unfamiliar with them, but probably want to invest in one due to MaxPass next time we go to DLR.

Anyone have a certain brand or model that's good that they recommend?

FuelRods are a specific brand of portable phone chargers that you can purchase online ($25) or at a FuelRod kiosk. There are several kiosks at DLR. The cost to purchase a FuelRod out in the park is $30, I think. The appeal of them for some people is that when they run out of charge, you can swap out the depleted one and get a fully charged one at any FuelRod kiosk for no fee. You just put the old one in and a new one comes out. Like a vending machine. So you don't have to find a place to sit and recharge it on your own (although they are rechargeable on your own. Each one comes with a charging cord.).

I just bring two fully charged portable chargers I got off of Amazon for about $10 each and that gave me plenty of extra charge for my iPhone all day at both WDW in 2015 and DLR in 2017.

Thank you for the info!

This is what we do, too. We just charge nightly. For the poster who posed the question about the external charges, mine is about the size of a lipstick. It charges plugged in to the wall with a generic USB port, or a mini-USB. Turns green when its powered. Then I plug my phone's charger cord into the USB port when it's time to charge my phone, and press the charge button. Just like when its charging at home, I have full function of my phone while its charging from the external charger.
