hello all mickey freaks. i have a small problem that i am sure all of u can help me with. i will try not to make it to long.
on june 4th my so called husband wrote me a letter askin for a divorce. well 30 days later i decided i (and my girls) were goin to move out of the home my kids have ever known. he stated that sellin it empty would be faster and the day i moved out of course he moved back and in and is still there. (sorry off topic) well then on the 25th of july i lost my mom to cancer and my kids went thru shock because their whole world was upside down. well we (me and my girls) went to disney april of 2007 and we had the best time ever. well of course they (and me too) want to go back. i just got my taxes filed and made out pretty good. and my way of thinkin is this: i would use the money like i didnt really have it. of course i put some in the savings as well as an ira. so the rest would be great to use for a vacation.
am i wrong for that or should i just sit on all of it? i guess i just need some advice on what to do. i will be a cheap as possible. but still havin a great time. and if i do go any advice on should i try and rent some DVC points or stick to the values..etc
well thanks for reading and advice

Sounds like you have had a rough year! By all means you need some pixie dust and maybe even a luau dinner or a night at Park Faire with the princesses! I would go with your plan of putting some money away and spending the rest on a vacation! I'm sure you are already looking into the legal aspects of your divorce and what to do for your kids financially and leagally, that's a given. However, don't forget about the spirit. If you think that you can take them away from reality for a while and have a great time and maybe even sneek in a spa hour/ day for your self do it. Sometimes it's the good memories that keep us going through the hard times. As far as spending take a look at the Dis Boards Budget Board! There are GREAT ideas there and even in the Disney Families section.

I hope all works out for you and your family! Keep strong but allow people to help you! Maybe someday you will be able to help someone else because of your experience! Doesn't make it any easier but in the end your life will be better because you are getting a second chance!:flower3:

i just dont want the kids to have a bad summer or spring just because of all the drama goin on around them. thought this wouldbe something that they would LOVE and we would have a great time.
thanks for the advice esbrick

:thumbsup2 I say GO!! This is a time in their lives tobe carefree kids! :cloud9: Just because the adult world is a little rocky, take them and give then an amazing experience, soemthing they will never forget. They will have the memories to last them a lifetime and something fun and hapy to think about should they be sad or in a not so happy place! You can never get time back, so I say save a chunk of $$ for a rainy day and spend a smaller portion on a nice Disney Vacation for you and your girls!!! :wizard:

Another vote for go here too!

:grouphug: on the loss of your mother, it sounds like a terrible year for you :grouphug:

I say go, make some memories. I'm a big believer in taking kids on vacation once a year if you can make the $$ stretch so i say enjoy a break together

I am also going through a divorce and I am going to figure out a way to take our Disney trip no matter what! It's impossible to shelter them from all the hurt involved in a divorce and a Disney trip is just the escape they need from all of it.

 So sorry you are going through this.

I am in the same situation. DH left in August and has filed for divorce. I am taking DD3 and DS6 in June. We are looking forward to it so much. It has given me a bright spot in an otherwise terrible time. He is off with his 20 year old girlfriend, but we are going to DISNEYWORLD! We made our countdown calendar a few days ago. We have 153 days to go. I don't really have the money either. Well I have it, but it really should be going toward other things, but we Really need this. It sounds like you do too. Good luck and hugs.

thanks everyone for your advice..as of noe i am goin to go.
i wish there was a way that us either single mom or moms goin thru a divorce could all go at the same time and share a dinner or maybe a drink!! well again thanks for the pep talk:cheer2: i need all the cheerleaders i can get at this point

SO sorry about your mom! and not meaning this in a mean way, but it sounds like in the long run, you'll be better off w/out your husband (him tricking you and the kids to move out, then moving back in)... what the?????

anyway, you sound strong and your girls are lucky to have you!

I say definitely GO! You guys deserve it!

I remember soon after my parents divorced when i was 12, my mom surprised us 3 kids w/ a trip to disney. her dad gave her $1000 as a 'gift'... he wanted her to put it away since she was now single and not getting much from my father, but she was very good w/ money and even though we didn't have much, she always worked very hard and paid all the bills. she decided on the trip as a splurge since we could never normally splurge (and she tells us now how mad my grandpa was at her, but she thought it was important). It was really nice family-bonding time for us. Go and make extra special memories w/ your girls!

well have decided to go!!!!!!!!!!!! but not until sept. to try and get the free dining promo.
but i wanted to thank all of you that posted. nice to have some ppl in my corner:grouphug:

that's great you're going to go!! and here's some pixie dust (poof!) for you to get the free dining!

take care of yourself and your kiddies! hope everything works out ok for you!

you are fortunate to be tapped on the shoulder by a DCM and given something grand from the Year of a Million Dreams.

well thanks for the dust and thanks for hoping that we get something grand. to me walkin down main str and seeing the smiles on my kids face is grand enough. but i wont pass down a night in the castle...;) ;)

I am so happy to see that you decided to go. After the time you have had, you all deserve to go. I went through a divorce with my older kids were 9 and 6. It was tough, but it all worked out in the end and we are all doing well. It is a sad thing to go through, so anytime you can have special time with you girls you should go for it!!!

Good luck to you!!

thanks again all reading these posts makes me feel so good. :grouphug: to everyone

I was thinking the same thing- get mad at your spouse, don't like your spouse, whatever, but you don't screw the kids over. Yuck.

I hope you go and you have the trip of a lifetime. Your girls are still young and you have time before the trip so I would try to start picking stuff up at the Disney Store or online at disneyshopping.com and set it aside from the trip. Those $4 t-shirts you buy at home will be just as exciting to your DDs as the $20+ ones in the stores. We try to bring a few things like that and it really cuts down on the gimmes, which is great when you're trying to stick to a budget. Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful trip :goodvibes

zpt1022...i buy all well alot of things b4 hand and use it as a go to bed tool. i will explain, last yr when we went to dis i didnt want to spend all my vacaction shopping in the stores and then havin to buy 2 (twins) of everything at the higher price. i bought alot of stuff on clearance at my local dis store. so every morning when my girls woke up a character left a little gift. tried to make it something that might go with the park we are visiting that day. so they started the day with something and we didnt waste time tryin to push a double wide stroller thru the stores. they also got a new tshirt from home dis store for wear. dont get me wrong we got souvies from the trip but nothing that broke the bank. a few pins and we hit the 10dollar or less store too. they came away smiling so all is good.
i have started shoppin for this trip too. i read someplace that the disney store is having a presidents weekend sale too. 60%off clearance and i have a 15%off coupon too so i am hopin to make out GGGGGOOOOODDD
well again thanks to everyone for helpin me keep my chin up:woohoo:
