Okay, so here is the story. My husband has been having very bad back/hip/leg pain. Long story short after almost 9 mths of trying to figure out what was wrong, we finally found our answer.

He needs bilateral hip replacement!! Well, we have our trip planned for December 7-14. They cannot get him in for surgery until after we get home. So, what I am wondering is, how do I do Disney?

He is able to walk, but with pain and there is no possible way he will be able to walk the whole time. I was thinking Disney surely has wheelchairs to rent right?

My parents are going with us too so I won't be alone with him and our daughter.

Basically I am looking for any advice, tips, pretty much any info I can get. I really have no idea what I'm doing!!

Thanks in advance!!

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

I would suggest you start off by clicking on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #2 in the FAQs deals with mobility and information about rentals of both wheelchairs and ECVs.

He may be much better off with an ECV, especially from an off-site company.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

wheelchair and/or ECV (scooter).

I would opt for a scooter even if it's more expensive. Everyone will have a better time.

Unless he transfers by himself you will have to miss some rides for him. Other rides you can transfer to wheelchairs for it.

I would be very careful on what to ride; so, you don't cause a lot of pain or injury.

There's a lot of holiday activities that are very passive. I would concentrate on shows, parades, and fireworks this go round.

Hi,

I'm a bilateral hip replacement and did Disney before I had my surgeries. I used a wheelchair and had a great time. I would use an ECV if you can, there is more freedom. Have a great time.
