Need Sandal/Flip Flop for Plantar Fasciitis

I suffered from this several years back and I already use orthotics. The best thing from me was stretching before excercising, as my podiatrist told me to. The Achilles tendon stretch, you can google it if you are not sure. Doing this before exercise or heavy walking made a world of difference for the entire day. I'd try this in concert with your footwear as eventually I got to the point where it just didn't come back.

I also suffered from this and my Reef slap II's did well. And as the previous poster said, lots of stretching and I might add, I used a golf ball to roll around under my foot before and after parks and made it feel so much better. I actually did it before and after the trip every chance i got and it eventually went away.

Thanks, I'll try that. I did order a pair of Vionics and have been wearing them around the house. Maybe I'll get used to them but they don't see like shoes I'd be comfortable walking in all day long.

I haven't had an issue in my right foot for some 6 months now but my left was much worse and just isn't going away this time. I'm trying icing and Advil in the evening, but will definitely add stretching before exercising. Even in supportive sneakers it bothers me afterwards.

Up until this past year it always came and went. And at Disney it hurt the first couple days mostly in the morning but the more I walked the better it felt. I guess just loosening things up? Now it's become much more of a chronic pain and not just in the morning or when putting pressure on it so I'm really nervous about my upcoming trip. I'm going to try and get in to see my podiatrist this week and see if she has any more advice.

I appreciate the tips.

My local Marshalls and TJ Maxx have some vionics in stock fro around 24.99!!! great place to try them on, I did, and they were comfortable (nice arch support) but I was looking for a dressier summer shoe,so didn't buy.

I just bought a pair of Tevas from STP, and now I think I may purchase the Keen whispers. I don't have experience with either brand but hoping to find a comfortable pair for our a August trip. I will look for some bionics some vionics at my local Marshalls and TJMaxx.

The issue is that, with PF, what you really need is a back strap. Flip flops will make the condition worse and worse, as if there is no back support strap, your arch will always need to be trying to grip the shoe, whether you realize it or not.

I'm a serial marathoner and therefore a plantar fasciitis expert at this point, and honestly, the best thing is a pair of really supportive sandals, maybe even with custom orthotics in the bed. Mine are Geox and have a super thin, flexible orthotic that overall doesn't look like an orthopaedic shoe, but it keeps me able to function during marathon season so that I can still walk around for hours if need be during the summer.

Do you have a Crocs outlet near you? I have a few pairs (not the standard bulky ones everyone wears) and I think they're great.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Olukai!
I have high arches and discovered these gems about 4 years ago. I wore them ALL day at WDW and do daily until it's too cold. These flip flops were created by a podiatrist who wears them in marathons! They are super comfortable and the BEST I have found.

I recommend the Ohana shoe. http://www.olukai.com/shop/womens/sandals/ohana
You can get them wet, which comes in real handy in rainy WDW days. You can buy them at Takkens Shoes, online or even Amazon. I highly recommend trying them on. I have 4 pairs of these flip flops and LOVE them!!

I completely agree with this. My whole family wears either Keens or Teva sandals to Disney. We call them our "Disney shoes". It's just too much walking to be in flip flops.

Well today I'm getting a steroid shot to see if it can help reduce the pain. I'm returning my Vionic Flip Flops because they feel a little too loose, but ordering another pair of sandals that have more coverage with an adjustable strap. Hoping these work out better. Thanks again for the opinions!

Have you tried zcoils? They literally changed my life with Plantar Fasciitis. They are crazy expensive but worth every penny.

Same issue. For me, Chacos, hands down. Great support and great sandal. It's a matter of pride for me to develop a Chaco tan as soon as possible every summer.

Teva's with the extra cushion in the heel works for me. Though I would love it if they had a flip flop with that sole. Also Birkenstock work really well for me too. Not sure how I would like those at the parks though. I'm definitely going to be checking out some of the other brands mentioned here :)

Huge fan of both of these (Teva and Birkenstock) flip flops/sandals for my plantar fasciitis. As another poster stated the Sketcher Go Walks are great. I just bought a pair and am loving them!

Definitely look into the Keens sandals - I think I posted a link to the ones I have earlier in this thread. I had PF a few years ago and I have not had any problems with the Keens. I wore them hiking a full day in Hawaii and walked through streams and mud wearing them - they dried perfectly and are just so comfortable. I would wear them year round if I could. When it starts to get cold here in the fall I sometimes wear them with socks - shhhh.

For plantar fasciitis the vionic wave worked best for me(I bought it in gray from QVC) they can get wet. I think I am going to get another pair for our trip. But I do also love the keens.

I have plantar fasciitis and a plantar fibromas. The MOST important thing for me to remember is to stretch really well before getting out of bed in the morning.

For disney, the most comfortable shoe I've found for me is a clarks sandal. http://www.amazon.com/Clarks-Womens.../ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I have never been able to do a flip flop of any kind without making my PF act up. Most likely, something with a strap would be better for you. Good luck finding something that works for you! I tried for years to do sneakers in disney thinking they would offer the most support but no matter what brand I tried, I couldn't walk by the end of the day, plus I'd always get blisters. I originally bought my clarks as a 'just in case' or to wear around the resort but ended up using them all day every day. I will be very upset if they stop making them!
