I am thinking about adding one extra night to a trip about 6 weeks away. It is available but I am 6 points short in my current year. If I buy 6 points and cancel the trip - do I get a refund, points stuck in this year, points I can bank to next year? If I borrow 6 from next year - same question - are they now stuck in this use year or can I put them back in their original use year. With our current plans I won't make another trip using points this use year - so I am deciding what is best - THANKS!!!

If you buy the one-time-use vacation points and then cancel, those points remain in the UY that the reservation would have taken place during. They can not be banked and will expire at the end of that UY.

If you borrow points and then cancel, those points remain in the UY that they were borrowed into. They can not be banked and will expire at the end of that UY.

If you cancel a trip that includes one-time use points, the one-time use points go back into your account and may be used to make another reservation. They must be used prior to the end of your use year.

Borrowing is a final transaction. If you cancel the reservation, the borrowed points go back into your account. They cannot be put back to their original use year and will expire at the end of the current use year.

So either way, if you cancel and cannot reuse the points before the end of the use year, they expire.

So, do you not add the extra night, risk losing $90 or risk losing the 6 points from your next use year? Not a no--brainer decision. Sorry.

Good luck!

Thanks for the fast reply. I did a quick read - decided to gamble with the borrow and it was gone when I went to book - 4 minutes later. Put in waitlist and now I'll let fate decide :)
