Need prayers and good thoughts for Kevin's Mom today * Update 5/8/11*

Aye carambas Kevin, that's terrible. I hope things go better moving forward. Keep your chin up.

I'm sorry to hear about the delay and hope your Mom gets to feeling well soon. I can't imagine what that Dr. had to say for himself after you stomped him

Prayers and good wishes continuing for all of you.

Oh no Kevin I hope she improves and can have the surgery. An ABG hurts like hell that is what my husband does and it is not fun. He hates sticking thin dehydrated people because it hurts them even more. ((HUGS)) to mom from us. I hope all goes well.

Best wishes to you and your family, and I hope all goes well next time around.

Does the local hospital have a patient advocate program? Maybe your insurance offers something of that nature? My DW went through a difficult second pregnancy and we were contacted by a nurse advocate working for our insurance. As she so eloquently explained, "It's not just out of the kindness of their hearts and a general wish for things to go well, but there is a clear monetary driver to make sure things go well!" This nurse read every chart recorded by the doctors and nurses, followed up on items that needed to be followed, and intercepted and managed all the requests for information regarding explanation of charges from her own insurance company. Removing this stress from the equation made a BIG difference on letting us focus on the necessary things.

Hi Folks....

I'm not a violent person, but I could beat someone with a stick right now.

When my Mom was re-admitted to the hospital last evening, it was suggested that we agree to this surgery and that it should be done today.

I asked the DR if we should wait and allow my Mom to get IV fluids, meds and other stuff to get her to a more stable place.

I was told no, no, no....we should do this tomorrow.

After no food or water (and she's dehydrated) since midnight last night, they wait until late afternoon to prep for this surgery. Part of the prep was an arterial blood gas test ( a fancy blood test from what I can tell).

Seconds before she was taken in to the operating room, the DR (the same one from last night) tells me that the test shows that she's dehydrated, needs IV fluids, meds and other stuff.

I ashamed to share the thoughts that went through my mind.

My Mom's surgery has been put off until she's more stable.

The fact that I'm not in the county jail right now should be proof that I have reached maturity.

Thanks again for your prayers, good thoughts and for keeping my family in your hearts.

That is infuriating!! Continued prayers for your Mom, you and John as deal with the stress of dealing withthe doctors and worrying about your Mom.

I'm so sorry you all have to go through this.....continuing to send prayers and good thoughts for a speedy recovery. We love you guys!!!:grouphug:

Kevin,

First, I do so hope your Mom is alright, and will be alright after all is said and done. Praying for her complete recovery.

I have learned through personal experience that the best and sometimes the only rational advocate for a family member undergoing medical care is you. Don't always believe that the "healthcare professional" is treating your loved one as their priority. Unfortunately, they will usually have several cases they are handling at any one time, and sometimes might not notice the obvious. You will need to be assertive and alert, holding the people accountable for actions. I am not saying they are incompetent, but can be overworked. Just know that your input and observation is just as valuable to your Mom's recovery as the doctor's.

Kevin,
I hope your mother is doing better today. Please keep us posted about her upcoming surgery. Hope you are holding up okay.

Suzette

You and your family are in my thoughts and positive vibes.

I have to agree with this 1000% - unfortunately I also have personal experience with having to advocate for a family member in the hospital - you have to constantly be on your toes & not afraid to speak out (doesn't sound like you have trouble with that - and good for you! :thumbsup2). I wish you and your Mom all the best!

Continue to speak up for your mom. AND SPEAK LOUDLY if necessary! You know her best.

Thoughts, hugs and prayers!

Kevin, I'm so sorry for all the extra turmoil you're having to deal with! Continuing to pray for your mom's good health and for strength for you and all her loved ones!

Absolutley true. It's hard to "stand up" to a doctor, but if you feel something isn't right you have to do it...and make them listen. My dad wouldn't be here today if my sister and I hadn't stood up to his doctor.

Hope your mom is doing better today. Thinking of you and sending lots and lots of good thoughts and prayers.
