Need opinion on our future sons name...

I hate common names. No Michaels or Christophers for us! It's not that they are bad names, I just don't want my kids to be one of 15 Davids in their graduating class.

I also don't like weird names. DS has had a Jagger, Titan, Baylor in his classes. Names that make everyone go "huh?" just aren't my taste.

Then there is the trendy which I also try to avoid. No Taylor/Tyler, Aiden's or Jackson's for us. Again, not bad names, I just don't want one in every class while growing up.

Good Luck!!

Just lol, because I'm trying to figure out what is left. No common, no weird and no trendy?? Hmmm... I thought long and hard about naming my youngest Michael because it has been in the top 20 baby names for like the last 50 yrs or so and so far, he hasn't had another Michael in his class. Actually, there isn't another Michael in the 4th grade at his school. There are several Michaela's, Micayla - however it's spelled. Around here the girls names are duplicated much more frequently than the boys. There must be at least 4 Caitlyns and Taylors and Madisons in each grade.

Nothing wrong with the name Miller if you like it. I have a boys name SHawn and I was teased a little, but nothing I didn't survive. I named my son Mason and every so often he gets a Mason jar reffrence  , but he's cool with it. If you like the name that's all that matters. If he is born and looks like a Miller than you will know it is the right name.
My younger son's name is Aron Elvis (after the king) because when he was born he did not look like an Elvis (blonde not black hair :cool1: )
my boys are now 8 & 9 and like standing out (my son wants to be called Elvis) a little. I also have a nephew named TED Williams (after Teddy ballgame).
Best with the Baby and you will know what to name him when you see him !!!

I'll be more specific. I avoid the top 20 like the plague. Anything that hasn't been in the top 50 in the last 3 years, but suddenly is in the top 10 or showing up in the birth announcements a lot all of a sudden--too trendy. Things that just make you go "WHAT!?!", like Titan, Zeus, Hercules, aka something that sounds like a pets name are just wierd. I did nail it with DS#2's name (picked out by DS#1)--no one to very few have ever heard it before and their reaction is "I love that".

If he ever lives in New England everyone will call him "Millah".

We both had veto on names, which is why our Gabrielle isn't named Allegra, which turned out to be for the best because now there's an allergy medicine named that! :rotfl:

Anything that's a commercial product or a city is pretty much an instant veto for me...

:rotfl: rotfl: I know really!

I don't have any prejudice (sp?) againest any name. I just go through the baby book and when one pops out at me I think to myself, wow thats it! DS #1's name is 29 for his birth year. DS #2's name is not in the top 100 for his birth year but it is actually a nickname for a longer name. (We knew we would never call him by that longer name so we didn't use it.) I know there are lots of kids with these names but I don't care because I can't imagine calling them anything else!

I do know what you mean by that. Our DD was going to be named Rylie Madison throughout my entire pregnancy, and at the hospital, we decided to switch it. It just seemed to fit her better, even though it drove me nuts that it was the #1 name, and she'd probably have 4 kids with the same name in her class.

BTW, I am curious to know DS #2's name! :listen:

Again, you all have given me great ideas. One name I brought up to DH last night was Brennan, and he actually said he liked it!!! :thumbsup2 (At this point, any non-"M" name he likes is a bonus.)

I did also mention the arguement that if we were to have more kids (which I doubt, but you can never be sure) it will be even MORE difficult to come up with a 3rd "M" name, and that would be REALLY cheesy!! He did agree, but he also thinks we won't have to worry about a 3rd.

Another one I brought up to DH was in one of the posts on this thread: Mackade. He actually liked that too...since we could call him Cade or Mack. Might be another option besides Miller...

I usually like last names as first names for boys, but I don't know why, maybe because it's such a common last name, "Miller" just doesn't strike me the same way as Hunter, Tyler, Jackson and Sawyer. Of course, maybe it's also just because those names have been used more as first names. :confused3 I certainly don't think of the beer when I first hear the name, I think of a last name.

It's hard to come up with a good "M" name for a boy. Lots of them, Marvin, Mortimer, Morris, Milton, Myron, are kind of dorky sounding (JMHO - sorry if I offend anyone!) Others have been taken over by girls, like Morgan, Mallory and MacKenzie.

M names I might use:
Malcolm (I love this one. I knew a Malcolm in college. People called him Malc for short. He was a great guy, so I got a great first impression of the name! ;) )
Marshall
Marc or Marcus
Maddox
Matthew (I know, it's awfully popular, but still a nice name, or you could use another form, like Matteo)
Michael (popular over time, but I seriously don't know a single Michael under the age of 12. I doubt if he'd have another in his class.)

Good luck. And please, don't let this thread bring you down on the name if you like it. He's your child. You name him whatever you want. People's tastes are different, and while the name might not be one many others would choose, it's certainly not offensive in any way, or more "mean nickname"-inducing than any other name.

I suggested Mackade. If you choose it, do I win a prize? Maybe to be named his godmother or something? :teeth:

Good luck in whatever you decide!

Denae, I'll do one better - I'll buy you a Mickey Head ice cream the next time we are in WDW!! :teeth:

Just wanted to offer another "M" - Macaulay.

Yes, the kid from Home Alone. But it comes with a nickname (Mac) that I think is cute for boys, it fits with the M, it's not common, but it's not...(well, to me anyways)...so out in left field that people would look at him sideways.

Anyways, I like your other choices too, and I'm sure you'll pick a perfect one!!

What about a name with a W. You know, an upside down M? :thumbsup2
That's a whole 'nother slew of names to choose from.

ETA: I like Miller, but I do see the point others have made regarding using Surnames for Given names. Never thought about it, but I am sure it can be confusing in school.

Just remembered a couple from my childhood Mervyn (Merv) and Murray, both very masculine boys name. I have a cousin Murray and grew up with a Murray too. Mervyn was a kid I was always teamed up with at school as he was the tallest boy and I was the tallest girl:lmao:

Here's a new one.........it was one of the charaters in a book I just read

Mathias

I'm going to fall in the minority here, but I like it. I don't think he's going to mind the "Miller Time" reference when he's in college hehehe! It will probably be a cool thing, and as a young kid -- kids are always going to find something. Kids called me clarkbar (because my last name was clark), and Dino the Dinosaur (because my first name was Dina and I was one of the tallest kids in the class)-- I survived to laugh about it.

Also, don't go crazy because there's always going to be something negative. For my oldest, we tried sooooo hard to find something different that noone else had. I have always LOVED Aidan Quinn, and wanted that name (from when I was in high school). So, we picked it (knowing noone named Aidan, wasn't even on the Top 100 of baby names-- not on any lists) In fact we got weird comments that it was weird, too ethnic. The only person who liked it was the priest at the school where I taught because it was a Saint's name. 6 months later, there was an Aidan on Sex in the City, and now its one of the most popular names around (luckily he doesn't have any Aidans in his class-- there all a year behind him-- there's like 6 of them hehehe). What are you gonna do?? I will say that the next name we picked just a "common" sort of name that didn't seem trendy--- Daniel-- and now that's getting really popular again. If you like Miller and your husband likes it... go with it!!

Although, can I just say that someone mentioned Macauley-- and I just love that name. Mac is a great nickname. Although he'll probably be called Big Mac-- see what I mean, you can't worry about that.
