I am in need of a new card reader. I have a Canon XTI that uses Compact Flash. Didn't think it was going to be that difficult to find a reader that accepts CF cards!

Any recommendations for a new reader.

Thanks!!

Debbie

did you try walmart, they have a multicard reader that accepts CF CARDS

If you want to go ultracheap, check Meritline or DealExtreme. SDHC card readers can often be had for $1-2 there... Not sure about CF ones.

I still never understand what is the use of a card reader when camera's hook right up to the computer with a USB cable. :confused3

But I do know some people that aren't photography die hards that use the cards more for having portable files. My brother uses his(SD sorry dunno about CF cards at all really) all the time but I can't see myself using one. I had one long ago that my brother got because he bought his first canon digital an old 2MP camera used and didn't have one. So of course when I inherited the camera from him I had the reader for awhile.

I agree Frys.com. I'm pretty sure that is where my brother got his. Its just like your basic portable jump drive whatever you want to call it.

I have one floating around here somewhere from when I had the Xti. I now have the Xsi. If you PM me, I'll send it to you. :thumbsup2

it just makes sense to put the wear and tear on a reader rather than on your camera and batteries...plus some pcs/software sometimes doesn't recognize cameras, when attached, whereas I've never heard of a card reader not being recognized..

Funny you mention that because I purposefully leave it on sometimes to drain the battery completely for a full charge. Not all the time but a few times a year. Never had a card problem or finding a computer having trouble taking it off camera. My SDs rarely come out of the camera. I've never had one fail since I started only pulling them off using camera. Where as my card reader days I had a card start malfunctioning.

Sorry just never saw a point to one unless you didn't have a usb cable for your cam. Or using it for cards from other things that don't have cables(like a phone etc.)

I use a card reader because I don't even have my camera's software installed on my computer. With the reader I can go direct to lightroom.

Thanks for the input! I never used the cable because I had a card reader built in the laptop. Never wanted to wear down the batteries also.

Now I would have to find the cable! Easier to buy the reader :thumbsup2:rotfl:

I will look into some of the places suggested.

Debbie
